Count the number of “Fs” in the following sentence. Take your time, but
only count once
Warm up 2
Spell it for me
Tell us about an activity that you are going to do for fun this
weekend/month. You can only spell it .
Example: G-O H-I-K-I-N-G
How does it feel when you do share of work while others do not?
What would your reaction be like?
Working in groups, read the small story below and discuss the answers to
the questions that follow.
A team had four members called Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done. Everybody was sure that Somebody
would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Activity : Expectations
Paper folding
Fold the paper into two / tear the top right corner/fold the paper/ tear the top left
corner/ fold the paper/ tear the top right corner
Takeaway: the team leader needs to clearly communicate instructions to the
group/ The team members need to ask for clarification
How many psychiatrists does it takes to change a light bulb? A: Just one, but the
light bulb has to really want to change.
To change you need to have willingness to change oneself / I am here because I
want to be a better version of myself
Teamwork is like a toolbox. Diverse tools / every tool fixes a specific problem
Think of five things you can do better if you work as part of a team rather than
on your own
Being part of a team is different from being part of a group. While members of a
group only take care of the part of the task assigned to them, the members of a
team are collectively responsible for achieving a common goal. If you want to
succeed at work, you should develop team skills and learn to work as a member
of a team.
Think of some skills you need to learn to be a good team member.
For example: Be loyal to your team
A team made up of participants sits in a circle. Tell them that their airplane just
crashed on a uninhabited land and the airplane will explode within ten minutes.
In the airplane there are 15 objects of which three objects can be taken out of the
airplane
Place the names of the objects in the middle of the circle on the ground
A box of Matches

Transistor radio
An axe
A gun
Inflatable life boat for 4 people
Compass
Anti insect spray

Group dynamics
Peeves and traits
• This activity allows team members to understand the challenges they each face
and the strengths they each have when working in a group;
• First, ask each team member to write down one pet peeve they have when
working in a team. (For example, “I find it challenging when people come late
to meetings because I feel like coming late communicates lack of care for others’
time.” Or “It gets to me when people get interrupted during discussions because
their contributions are valuable and our voices all matter.”);
• Second, ask each team member to write down one positive trait that everyone
in the group should know about when working with them. For example, “One
thing you should all know about me is that my silence is not due to disinterest; I
just need time
to do my best thinking.” Or “One thing you should all know about me is I get
excited during discussions and sometimes interrupt others out of enthusiasm.”);
• Ask team members to share both statements with the group in turn, with
discussion. As a team, discuss whether you have found the activity helpful. What
have you learned about each other? How can this knowledge be used to structure
teamwork and achieve the group’s aims?
Hopes vs Fears
Every team member needs to write their hopes and fears on sticky notes. They
stick them on the wall and communicate their hopes and fears
METHOD:
Use the prepared contract cards and ask the group to sort them into two piles –
one for what they want to happen in the group, and the other what they don’t
want
Individual goal-setting: Ask individuals if there are any of the cards which they
think would be good to work on in particular to help them get the most out of
the session
Scenario
You work in a large NGO and on the team that you supervise there are 12 people
one of whom, John, is viewed as arrogant, controlling, and undermining of the
rest of the team impacting morale and productivity. As the supervisor you need
to meet with John to provide him feedback. What will you way and how will
you say that?
