Lesson 8: THE SECRETS OF GOOD HEALTH

INTRODUCTION:

In some of the earliest lessons we studied about attempts by humanity to find a way to a long life, through the
pursuit of the mystic Shangri-la or trying to develop a magic potion that could cure all of humanity’s diseases. As we
already know, none of these attempts even came close to revealing the secret of eternal youth. Of course we have
discovered what is the true source of eternal life and how will it be given to everyone who accept Jesus as their Friend and
Savior. But because eternal life is a promise in the future, does that mean that we don’t have to take care of our health?
Can we live anyway that we want, eating and drinking anything and everything that we want? Can we do whatever we
want with “our” bodies? Furthermore, are there any truths about how we should take care of our health? Are there any
guidelines that can help us improve our quality of life and possibly even help us have slightly longer life here on earth?
Does God care about our health?

Activity 1: Answer the following question

Clue 1: What type of food did God leave for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden? Genesis1:29.

“ See, I have given you every _____________________ that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and
every ________________________ whose ___________________________ yields seed; to you it shall be for
______________________.

Clue 2: What was the life span of people who ate according to the original plans of God? Genesis 5:5,8,20,27.

O 120 years O 80 years O 900 years O 50 years O 300 years

Clue 3: After the flood, when God allowed meat to be used as food, what were the rules that God instituted to
differentiate between the meats that were all right to eat and those that weren’t?

Animals [Leviticus 11:3]. It must have a ______________________ hoof and chew the ____________________.
Animals that ___________________ along the earth on all four _______________________ are unclean.

Fish [Leviticus 11:9]. “ Whatever in the water has _________________ and _____________________, whether
in the seas or in the rivers—that you may eat.”

Birds [Leviticus 11:13-20]. Some examples of unclean birds to eat are:

___________________________________________________.

Clue 4: Why is God concerned about our health? Do our body belong to Him? 1 Corinthians 6:19, 20

“ Do you not know that your body is the ___________________________ of the

________________________________ ? For you were bought at a price; therefore ___________________________ God
in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

? DID YOU KNOW…

That infancy and adolescence are crucial periods of life for physical and mental formation and development, and
nutritious food contributes most to their growth? It is during adolescence that we can acquire and cultivate our habits. A
teenager with bad habits will, without a doubt, suffer the health consequences when they are an adult.
