Background Information
The first teachers a youngster has are their parents! Children develop social skills including
sharing, cooperating, and respecting other people’s property when they engage with a parent.
Young kids also learn to communicate and hone their motor abilities. Children are more likely to
perform well in school and develop socially and emotionally when their parents are involved in
their education. Student achievement, self-esteem, and behavior all increase when parents are
involved. Additionally, it fosters a sense of partnership between parents and their child’s school.
Many schools prioritize involving parents and the larger community in their efforts to raise
students’ academic performance. Involving parents from low-income families in school activities
can benefit students’ academic performance.
Parental involvement has a lot of effects on their children, especially when it comes in
academic achievement, it may be positive or negative. Being pressured and high expectation are
one of the issues that affect a lot of students. However, a lot of students are being pressured by
their parents they still do their best to get their parent expectation and to make them proud.
The aim of this research is to know the relationship between a parent and student when it
comes in academic achievement.
A study conducted by Chen and Fan (2013) showed that the idea that parental involvement
has positive influence on students’ academic achievement is so intuitively appealing that society
in general, and educators in particular, have considered parental involvement an important
ingredient for the remedy for many problems in education.
The objectives of studying the perspective of grade 10 students on the role of parents’
involvement in their academic achievement may include:
1. To understand the level of involvement of parents in the academic lives of grade 10 students.
3. To identify the types of parental involvement that are most effective for grade 10 students.
4. To investigate the attitudes and perceptions of grade 10 students towards their parents’
involvement in their academic lives.
The significance of this research lies in its potential to shed light on the ways in which
parents can support their children’s academic success. Research has consistently shown that
parental involvement is a key factor in academic achievement, and this study can provide valuable
information on how parents can best support their children’s learning.
Student. This study will help the students to improve their academic performance. This
student would be able to do their task and pass it on time.
Teachers. They could help their students to attend their class regularly and to do their task.
Parents. This study could help the parents to know their limitations when it comes in
academic performance of their child. Parents will know that they do not need to pressure their
children to get their own satisfaction.
Future Researcher. The result of the conducted study could help the future researcher, it
can be used as related literature.
Research Question
What are the Perspective of Grade 10 Students on the Role of Parents’ Involvement in their
Academic Achievement?
Survey Questions
As shown in Table 1, in question number one a lot of students answered sometimes with
an average score of 7/10, it means that most of the respondent experienced being pressured by
their own parents. On the other hand, question number two, 6 of the respondents answered never,
question number three, 7 of the respondents answered sometimes, question number four, 5 of the
respondents answered sometimes and another 5 answered never, and the last one the question
number five, 5 of the respondents answered always.
Conclusion
Based on the indicated findings, a lot of students experienced being pressured by their
parents. The result revealed that the students who answered the survey, their parents expect a high
grade from them also that their parents do not help them to do their task/activities that they take
home from school.
Recommendations
This study revealed that a lot of students are pressured by their parents when it comes to
academics. The following recommendation are formulated:
1. Since the parents already know their negative effect on their child, they should not put
pressure on them.
2.Teachers should motivate their students to do their task, so they do not fail in their
subjects.
3. A similar study must be conducted by a massive group to determine if the same findings
will be accepted.
