subject must be interesting and the student must be productive and enjoy what he or she
learns. Since the students are young, we thought that this subject from daily life, which would
allow us to attract their attention by using materials that entertain them, was very suitable for
us. When we are planning our unit and lesson plans, we think the important one is Utilize
Technology, Media, and Materials among the ASSURE steps because, as we mentioned
above, we need materials that could attract the attention of students, and since we need to
educate students in a time when we live in the age of technology and even babies are born
with phones and tablets in their hands, we had to choose a more modern method that adapts to
daily life. We spent most of our time preparing enjoyable, high-quality technological
materials and using them appropriately.
As a group, we firmly believe that the way a teacher instructs is vital in learning English.
That’s why, to make our instruction appropriate to our students, we spent a lot of time
spending to analyze our learners. After thinking critically, since our students are from second
grade, we assume that for most of them, it’s the first time to are exposed to English. That’s
why, as a group, we try to adjust our instruction to be enjoyable as much as possible. To do
so, we critically evaluate the time allocation so that they don't get distracted in the instruction.
Consequently, we decide to prepare our time allocation depending on our students' ages and
pre-skills.
Our objectives for the second-grade students are based on the educational attainment provided
by MEB. While writing our objectives, we consider different learners in a classroom.
Therefore, our objectives are supported by the various materials for second-grade students to
engage better. As future teachers, we assume that students, especially at the primary level, are
more prone to learning through entertainment. In that sense, we determine and organize our
objectives in a more colorful, interesting, and entertaining way since we believe that the
students will be more active in their learning process and achieve their own goals.
We decide our instructional methods, media, and materials according to the class’s needs,
lacks, and wants. As a teacher, we believe that the first thing we should do is to observe the
classroom in terms of different learning types, different interests, different student types, and
understanding. By considering these differences, we believe that we must prepare our
materials for various types of learners. Therefore, we use different spheres such as listening,
speaking, acting, etc.
Since we thought our lessons were focused on knowledge transfer, we mostly followed a
teacher-centered structured method. In this way, our students, who received the right
information from the right source, did not experience any problems during the acquisition of
information. Later, thanks to the learner-centered method we used, we allowed our students to
develop themselves in a way that appealed to their needs and interests and ensured their self-
autonomy.
We also give importance to task-based language learning. By providing tasks to the second-
grade students, we aim to teach them the necessities of the unit of the 2nd grade without
giving them pressure to learn the language. Instead, we supply the second-grade students the
English learning with the help of tasks.
We believe it is appropriate to utilize the Prezi presentation, which is one of the materials we
have developed, every week as a group since we believe in the importance of the first
concrete exposure given at the beginning of the session. That's why, we load the lecture with
materials such as Prezi, Piktochart, PowToon, etc. For example, after providing students a
start with our presentation in the first week, we attempt to deliver a more memorable and
interesting teaching with the PictoChart to support the knowledge the students gain from the
presentation. Consequently, we use the presentation for every lecture to give concrete
exposure to English, and then, we use the other materials as a support. Also, as a group, we
don't find it beneficial to use a specific method. That's why, we try to make use of the
beneficial parts of some methods, such as the direct method, multiple intelligences, etc.
We plan our lesson plan and materials according to the class situation. As future teachers, we
are aware of the student variety in terms of different learning styles. Therefore, we create
materials for different kinds of learners. Listening, speaking, group activities, or individual
activities are some of the ways to activate students. In this way, if a student is more prone to
learning with the help of listening, or if a student learns through individual activities, this
attitude will have a positive effect in terms of the integrity of the class.
When preparing our evaluations and measurements, what we care about is how much students
have learned and how much they can use what they have learned in daily life. That's why we
applied role play, which is intertwined with daily life, to our students. In this way, we gave
them the opportunity to comprehend and use knowledge. Afterward, we prepared a survey for
the students. In this way, we saw from a more formal perspective how much they understood.
In general, what we paid attention to was to use measurement methods that caused the least
stress to the students and ensured that the students got the most efficiency.
