PENGERTIAN NOUN CLAUSE


A noun clause is a dependent clause, a clause whose position cannot stand alone. That
is, it cannot stand alone as a whole sentence so it depends on other sentences in order to
convey the complete meaning.
Noun Clause is:
Noun = Kata Benda
Clause = Klaus/ Kalimat
Thus, a noun clause is a clause (sentence) that functions as a word
thing. Noun Clause can be as an object, can be as a subject, can be as an object of preposition
and can be as a complement subject, which is usually marked Conjuntion words such as That,
Wether, If or can juge with a question word (Quehsatiton Word) after that followed by the
subject and predicate (Verb)

B. RUMUS NIfOUN CLAUSE


QW = Question Word spt what, why, when, who, where, dan how. Dan kata lainnya
whoever, whatever, whichever, whereever, whose, whom,whomever.
S = Subject
V = predicate/ Kata Kerja

1. Noun Clouse As an Object


Example:
• I Could Hear His Voice I could hear his voice (The object is a Noun) S VO
• I Could Hear What The Said (Objeknya Berupa Noun Clause) S V O

Prove:
Objek Disini (WHAT HE SAID) terdapat QW + S + V
WHAT = QW 2
HE = Subjek
SAID = Predikat (Verb)
That is, if the Noun Clause is an Object then the noun clause is located after the verb
Another example of a Noun Clause as an object:

• Thalia is always insecure about what people say about her goal.
Thalia has always been unsure of what people say about her ideals.

• I can’t be sure when to get back to Surabaya.


Meaning: I can't be sure when to return to Surabaya.

2. Noun Clause As a Subject


Example:
• His Story Is Interisting the story is interesting (The subject is a noun) S V
• What He Says Is Interisting What He Tells Is Interesting (Subject In The Form Of A Noun S
+ V Clause)

Prove:
Subjek disini ( What He Says) terdapat QW + S + V What = QW
He = Subjek
Says = Predikat(Verb)
That is, if the Noun Clause is before the verb as the subject then the noun clause is
located
Other examples of Noun Clause as Subject:

• When he will come back is still unsure.


When he came back still not convinced.

•That he passed the exam is information that they haven’t heard.


That he passed the exam is information they haven't heard.

• What she cooks is so delicious.


What he cooks is very good)
3. Object Of Preposition Noun Clause
Object of preposition is the object of the preposition of or for in the noun clause.
Example:
• For crying, I wouldn’t be happy with him.
What I cry for, I won't be happy with him.

• I will be patient for what I believe will come true.


Meaning: I will be patient for what I am sure will come true.

4. Subject of Complement
In the complement type, this clause noun is deliberately added in order to provide
further information or definitions about the independent clause.
Example:
• His hope is whatever’s best for his family.
Meaning: His wish is whatever is best for his family.

•The cloth, which is so soft, is usually the muslin.


Meaning: Soft-haired fabrics are usually cotton fabrics

C. NOUN CLAUSE FEATURES (WORD CLAUSE)


To be clearer and easier to recognize how this clause noun exists in a sentence, you
need to know some of its characteristics:
1. Has its own subject and verb.
2. Functions as a noun in a sentence, both as an object noun and as a subject noun.
3. Menggunakan awalan Noun Clause Marker (Question Word, That, It/Whether)
4. To be able to have meaning, in the beginning or end sentence always depends on another
sentence.
D. TYPE OF NOUN CLAUSE BASED ON THE SENTENCE
Noun clauses have four types, namely Question, Statement, Request, and
Exclamation. Here's a full explanation.
1. Question
The first type of noun clause is question. Where in this type, noun clauses are formed from
question sentences, both yes / no question and WH question. Yes/no question uses the
if/whether conjunction, while WH question is a question word that includes, what, who,
when, why, how, where, and whom.
Example:
a. I wonder if she like cooking.
b. What she wears fits perfectly.

2. Statement
In this type of noun clause, the conjunction used is "that" or "fact that". That conjunction can
be omitted if the noun clause does not occupy the subject in the sentence.
Example:
a. I said (that) I would visit him.
b. That tomorrow he will leave is not right.

3. Request
Request or subjunctive is a type of noun clause in the form of a command. It is usually
characterized by a command verb followed by that conjunction.
Example:
a. Take the book!
b. Mom suggested that I take the book.
4. Exclamation
Noun clauses can also be used in exclamation or exclamation sentences. To be able to use a
noun clause as an exclamation, you can use the conjunction how and what.
Example:
a. What a beautiful girl she is!
1. Can you tell me...... ?
a. What did he say
