INTRODUCTION
According to Encyclopedia Britannica faith is an inner attitude, conviction, or trust relating
human beings to a supreme God or ultimate salvation. In religious traditions stressing divine
grace, it is the inner certainty or attitude of love granted by God himself. In Christian theology,
faith is the divinely inspired human response to God’s historical revelation through Jesus Christ
and, consequently, is of crucial significance.
Faith is confidence or trust in a person or thing; or the observance of an obligation from loyalty;
or fidelity to a person, promise, engagement; or a belief not based on proof; or it may refer to a
particular system of religious belief ,such as in which faith is confidence based on some degree
of warrant. The term 'faith' has numerous connotations and is used in different ways, often
depending on context (Faith https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faith)

THE DIFFERENT BETWEEN FAITH AND RATIONALITY

The word faith usually refers to a belief that is held with lack of, in spite of or against reason or
evidence, while another position holds that it can refer to belief based upon a degree of evidential
warrant. Although the words faith and belief are sometimes erroneously conflated and used as
synonyms, faith properly refers to a particular type (or subset) of belief, as defined above.
Broadly speaking, there are two categories of views regarding the relationship between faith and
rationality: Rationalism holds that truth should be determined by reason and factual analysis,
rather than faith, dogma, tradition or religious teaching. On the other hand, Fideism holds that
faith is necessary, and that beliefs may be held without any evidence or reason and even in
conflict with evidence and reason.

THE FUNCTION OF FAITH IN A RELIGIOUS TRADITION

A religion is usually made up of a set of institutionalized religious practices and observances, rules of

conduct and entrenched traditions. In a religion, some kind of faith is involved, but often that faith is

placed on the effectiveness of religious practices, rules, observances, and traditions in appeasing or

finding favor with a deity. Christianity is a religion, of course, but more importantly it is a relationship

with God based on our faith in a Savior. Because we have a Savior, we believe we don’t have to earn

our way into God’s favor by scrupulously following religious observances, keeping traditions, and

doing other works. (Faith vs. Religion: pastortonys blog. blogspot.nl/2012/03/faith-vs-religion.html?m=1)

According to https://quizlet.com/22027902/religion-quiz-flash-cards/, we express faith through

religion- specifically through prayer, worship, service, and shared beliefs that result from faith.
We cannot have one without the other.
Faith without the support of religious practices will eventually fade; religion practices without
authentic faith are an empty exercise. Faith gives meaning to (religious practices). In fact the
sustained expression of faith keeps religion alive; help it grow. For instance, faith helps us to
acknowledge and praise God as our Lord and Savior worship; we offer him all that he is due
service sacrifice.
However, in taking cognizance to Christianity, faith is very relevance. It can't be said that faith is
indispensable in Christianity in the sense that without it, the whole doctrine of Christianity will
be baseless. According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/, Faith in Christianity is a central
notion taught by Jesus himself in reference to the Good News. In the understanding of Jesus it
was an act of trust and self-abandonment in which people no longer rely on their own strength
and policies but commit themselves to the power and guiding word of him in whom they believe.
In the Protestant tradition, faith is generally understood to be closely associated with ideas of
belief, trust, and reliance. This understanding is founded in the doctrinal statements of the
Reformers. One of their confessional statements explains: "the principle acts of saving faith are
accepting, receiving, and resting upon Christ alone for justification, sanctification, and eternal
life." In a more everyday sense, faith is often discussed in terms of believing God's promises,
trusting in his faithfulness, and relying on God's character and faithfulness to act. In this sense,
it's through that one comes to the reality of God and believing him.
According to most Christian traditions, faith requires a belief in Jesus' resurrection from the dead
by God the Father through The Holy Spirit .The precise understanding of the term "faith" differs
among the various Christian traditions. Despite these differences, Christians generally agree that
faith in Jesus lies at the core of the Christian tradition, and that such faith is required in order to
be a Christian. According to Paul in Hebrews 11:1: "… faith is the assurance of things hoped for,
the conviction of things not seen." This passage concerning the function of faith in relation to the
covenant of God is often used as a definition of faith.

CONCLUSION
Faith in something greater than oneself is one theme that is very common the in almost every
religion in the world. Faith is manifested both at the level of personal connection to something
deeper in life, and at the level of commitment within a community of religious individuals.
Whereas "belief" implies an intellectual assent to a proposition, faith is a deeper holistic
commitment of one's entire being to a higher calling, which resonates and permeates one's entire
life. The role of faith has an essential place in all religions, and has been an important way for
humanity to live a fulfilling life.
