EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN
BIOLOGY
RESEARCHER:
APRIL 20223
CHAPER I
Introduction
The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of technology specially, this
research seeks to identify why technology affects students learning in biology. In this study I
want to determine the effects and the impacts of technology on student’s enthusiasm in
learning biology (both at school and away from school)
According to Calvert (1994), American education is a system searching for solutions.
On the other hand many students drop out of school fail to sustain interest in learning and
perform below capacity. Some have argued that television is the culprit. Others have argued
that computers are the answer.
Today students have grown up in a technological world with technology in this study
it will help students develop their learning skills and to make their studies easier and
motivate, engage the students to have interest again in learning through the help of
technology.
Student
Student play a big role in this study so this study will help them to enhance their
learning through the help of technology and make their learning much easier.
Teacher
They will be able to guide the students on the proper use of technology to the learners
and will enhance their teaching modality.
Future researcher
The findings of the study will guide future researcher who wish to conduct the similar
research of this study.
Definition of terms
TECHNOLOGY
Is the application of scientific knowledge to the practical aims of human life.
ENTHUSIASM
Strong excitement and active interest on something causing a feeling of excitement
and active interest.
LEARNING
Is a process of acquiring skills, knowledge behavior, values, attitude and presence.
BIOLOGY
Is the scientific study of life it’s a natural science with a broad scope but has several
unifying themes that tie together as a single coherent field.
CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Related Literature
The researcher conducted a review of article from foreign and local studies relevant to
the present study. It is presented in the paragraphs that follow.
Foreign Study
According to Higgins et al. (2012) he provided a synopsis of a study findings from
non-experimental and quantitative-experimental study that have been included in meta-
analysis to investigate the influence of digital learning in school.
Harrison et al (2004) discovered statistically significant findings that linked higher
levels of school accomplishment in their academic performance.
Fisher et al (2004) states that the teachers are using technology to implement a flipped
classroom approach this allows the students to study the content at home and then come to
school to participate in extra discussion, exercise, and activities. According to Song and
Kapor (2017), few studies have explored how to build students problem solving skills and
boost their conceptual understanding in flipped classroom. While the studies in this context
are learning more on their own they are missing out on some of the lecture time that could
inspire them on meaningful discussion on challenges. This article investigates the various
advantages and disadvantages of flipped classroom.
Local Studies
According to spears (2012), she sites Denovan Harley and Strudler (2007) and
describes the technology program that was used in a school setting. Students need to possess
certain knowledge and skills in order to understand the purpose of the study although
technology has a great help in the students there are some difficulties in the implementation
of this method.
Research Method
The study used the none-experimental quantitative design utilizing the correlation
method. The study could also include questions about the specific types of technology they
use, such as online resources, educational apps or multimedia presentation. Another possible
research method and the data collected could be analyzed using statistical method to identify
any correlation between the uses of the technology on the student’s enthusiasm for learning
biology. (Costley 2014).
Population and Sampling Scheme
The possible sampling scheme for this topic could be a random sample of students
who are currently enrolled in a biology course and are using technology as a learning tool.
The sample is drawn in the Grade 12 Stem pupils of Sta. Fe National High School. Simple
random sampling could be used to ensure that the sample includes the senior high school
students of Sta. Fe National High School. The sample size should be large enough to ensure
statistical significance and generality of the findings.
Description of the Respondents
The respondents of the study is the Grade 12- Stem students of Sta. Fe National year
2022-2023. The respondents were 18 to 19 years old, the participants were selected using a
random sampling technique, and the experimental group received instruction using
technology-enhanced teaching method, while the control group received the traditional
teaching method without the use of technology. The study aimed to determine if the use of
technology in teaching biology would have significant effects on student’s enthusiasm for the
learning subject.
Research Instrument
In this study, the researcher make a self-made instrument that was used to gather the
data on this study. The research instrument will be verified for its validity and reliability so
that the data obtained through the instrument could justify its drive-in depicting the accurate
suppositions through the information attained.
For further reliability, validity and pilot testing of the instrument, in this method the
product moment correlation coefficient will be obtained and adjusted to give the reliability
and data gathered.
Validation of Instruments
The researcher make a self-made instrument to gather the data obtained through the
instrument to gather the data on the effects of technology on student’s enthusiasm for
learning biology.
The researcher instrument was verified for its validity and reliability so that the data
obtained though the instrument could justify its drive in depicting the accurate suppositions
through the information that will be obtained.
The feedback from the trial and the run of the instrument was used for its
improvement. When the process and the content have already satisfied the vigor or scientific
research protocol, the instruments were produced for the target respondents.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researcher personally administered data gathering. The following procedure was
observed by the researcher in the conduct of this study. First the researcher seeks approval
and endorsement of the grade 12- stem students of Sta. Fe National High School. Second a
letter requesting to conduct a research study on the school to Sir Rolando B. Caliba the
school principal.
After, the researcher give a questionnaire and the data collected were submitted. After
which the researcher made an analysis and interpretation of the data gathered.
Statistical Treatment of Data
The following statistical instrument was used in the analysis and interpretation of
responses of the study. All data will be tabulated, coded, and processed and analyzed using a
computerized statistical program. For the first and the second objective the mean will be
computed to determine the levels of enthusiasm of students and their learning sensitivity.
For the third objective the spearman rank of correlation was utilized to determine the
student’s enthusiasm for learning biology. It will be used to find the effects of technology on
students enthusiasm for learning biology between the predictive and criterion variable.
