Clutch Inspection and Measurement
Inspect as follows:
1. When clutch is being inspected, review the following examples to determine next step.
NOTE: Possible causes for overheated clutch are contamination or driver abuse.

NOTE: Possible Example 3 caused are warped pressure plate, countershaft brake airline
discolored or melted, and CPCA mounting plate paint bubbled.

1. Keep the pressure plate and clutch disk installed on the engine.
2. Lay a straightedge (1) on the raised portions on the pressure plate (2).
3. Use a ruler to measure the distance (A) from the straightedge to the contact apex of
each release finger.
4. Is the measurement greater than 2.54 cm (1 in.) or the pressure plate fingers warped?
1. Yes; replace the pressure plate, pressure plate mounting bolts and clutch disc.
Refer to section "Installation of the Clutch" .
2. No; clutch measurement meets specifications. Measurement procedure is
finished.
