Always move your stitch marker up at the end of each row as you will be working in

continuous rounds. Stitch count is in ( ) at the end of each row.

The head and body are worked as one piece, starting at the top of the head. Use your
2.5mm hook throughout, you will only be using the bigger hook for the dress.

Starting with the same colour you used for the body.

Turn your flamingo upside down, so you will be

working at the head end with the body to the right-
hand side. Join in your yarn at the first unworked
stitch after the neck.

Round 4. [ sc-dec, sc x 12, sc-inc x 2, sc x 12, sc-dec ] (30)

Go back to the tail of main colour you left and thread it on to your needle. Sew the little gap
between the beak and the neck neatly closed. **Keep the yarn attached.

Add the safety eyes now between rounds 17-18 of the head, approx. 16 stitches apart. A little
tip here is to use a length of yarn and hold it from the centre top of the head down to the
beak to find the middle of the face, then place a pin. Place the eyes 8 stitches either side of
the pin. I also like to stuff the head a little to get an idea of the shape and just to make sure
the eyes are in the correct position before I attach the washer to the back.

Once the eyes are in place pick up that pink tail again and make the eye lids. Make 3
stitches on an angle just covering the top of each eye.

Flatten the top of the leg and sc through both sets of stitches to close.

Leave a long tail and sew the legs to the bottom of the body approx. 1 row either side of the
middle.

DRESS

To make the dress you will need your 4mm crochet hook.

The top part of the dress is made using the moss stitch and the bottom part using a dc-cluster
stitch. We will be working in rows here not rounds. (see techniques section for info on these
stitches)

Using blue yarn

Row 1. Ch 34. Sc into the 4th ch from the hook, ch 1, skip 1,

[ sc, ch 1, skip 1 ] rep to end of row, ch 2, turn (16sc)

Row 2. Sc into the first ch space [ ch 1, skip next sc, sc into

the next ch space ] rep to end of row. Ch 2 turn (The last
sc will be in the space between the turning ch and the sc
from the previous row) (16sc)

In the next few rows we will be increasing at the edges to

shape the dress. To make an increase simply sc, ch1, sc,

dress 1: row 2 of dress

ch 1 into the same space and remember that you will need to use the ch 1 space in the next
row.

Row 3. Increase into the first ch space, sc, ch 1 in each space along, increase into the last
space. Ch 2, turn (18)

Row 4. Sc, ch 1, in each space along, ch 2, turn (18)

Row 5. Repeat row 3 (20)

Row 6. Repeat row 4 (20)

Row 7. Repeat row 3 (22)

Row 8. Repeat row 4 (22)

Row 9. Repeat row 3 (24)

Row 10. Repeat row 4 , ch 3, turn (24)

We will now switch from moss stitch to dc-cluster.

Row 11. Dc-cluster (dc3tog). Ch 1 in each ch space along, ch 3, turn (24 clusters) *Make
sure to put the last cluster in the space before the turning chain*.

Row 12-16. Repeat row 11 (24 clusters)

At the end of row 16 ch 1, sc up the side of the dress approx. 18 stitches (this doesn’t have to
be exact its just to neaten the edges) then sc along the top of the dress putting 2 sc in each
of the ch spaces, now sc down the other side of the dress. Leave a long tail. Fold the dress so
it meets up at the back and then sew the back together using the outer loops of the stitches.
Only sew up to where the moss stitch rows start. Finish off and weave in all ends. Sew a small
button at the top.

Dress 2:increases to the moss stitch rows Dress 3:dc-cluster stitches

dress 7: fold dress and sew the back together

Dress 8: add button

Put the dress on the flamingo before we make the sleeves.

SLEEVES X2

Using the same colour you used for the dress (in the pictures I went for a different trim and
sleeve colour)

Row 1. Ch 11, dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each ch along, ch 2 turn (9)

Row 2. Dc x 2 in each st along (18)

Finish off and leave a long tail. Use the needle to take the tail up through the turning chains
to the foundation row as in the picture below.

With the dress in place on the flamingo (button at centre back and top of dress under wings)
take your little cap sleeve and use your needle and the tail from the sleeve to sew the first
two stitches along (on the sleeve) to the top of the dress, 2 stitches along from the wing.
(making sure not to sew it to the flamingo) once sewn in place take the tail of yarn through
the foundation row stitches to the other end of the sleeve so we leave the gap for the wings,
sew the other side of the sleeve to the top of the dress.( see pictures below)
