“ Digital India' is not an elite concept anymore.
We have to use this
idea to revolutionize health and education in India. “ With this famous quote of our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi , I would like to draw your kind attention towards the “Digital India” . The Digital India initiative is a flagship program of the Government of India launched in 2015 with the vision of transforming India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. The motto of the government was– “Power to Empower”. The program aims to achieve this vision by providing high-speed internet access to all citizens, promoting digital literacy, and developing e-governance services. Today, as the digital wave sweeps across continents, India is embracing this change with its ambitious 'Digital India' initiative. It can help to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas, language barrier , improve the efficiency of government services, and create new opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. The initiative can also help to make India a more competitive and innovative economy. This vision is rooted in the pillars of digital infrastructure, digital literacy, and digital governance. India’s dream of being the Vishv guru again , is possible only by revolutionising the digital infrastructure and economy of the country . A foundational step towards creating a new India is establishing a robust , secure and stable digital infrastructure. The goal is to ensure that digital utilities are accessible to citizens in every nook and corner of the country. But this is not a cup of tea in a vast democrat like India , where the majority still lives in rural or semi-rural areas , and the access to the technology is mere . But with the ambient vision , we developed an impressive infrastructure in just few years , that beat the sophisticated systems of developed countries . Projects like BharatNet aim to connect the vast rural expanses with high- speed internet, ensuring that geographical remoteness doesn't translate to digital alienation. The focus isn't merely on connectivity but also on creating platforms, like the Digital Locker and DigiYatra, that simplify and enrich the common man's interaction with technology. Digi Locker facility provides citizen of India to keep their important documents safe and secure digitally .
As mere building a house is incomplete without its resident ,
similarly building the Digital infrastructure alone isn't sufficient. For India to truly embrace the digital age, its citizens need to be digitally literate. Efforts are being made to impart digital skills, especially among rural women, farmers, and the older generation , to connect them from the technology . A famous saying in Indian Culture is that , celebration is incomplete without the blessings of elders , thus , the government focused more on bridging locals to global. Programs like the PMGDISHA have been initiated to make 6 crore rural individuals digitally literate. As the youth dives into the vast ocean of online learning and skill-building platforms, the elder demographic is being equipped to harness the digital world for basic tasks, ensuring no one is left behind. DATAMAIL is one such example that empowers vernacular languages , connecting rural with mainstream . The constitution of India guarantees the transparency , legitimacy , and accountancy to the citizens and their participation in governance . To facilitate it in the most populous country , digital India had come to the rescue . A noteworthy dimension of Digital India is that it connects the educated elite to the poorest in the decision making . E-governance platforms, such as the UMANG app, aim to bring a multitude of government services to the fingertips of citizens. This not only enhances convenience but also reduces official procedure and formalities , making then system more vigilant . This includes online services, such as filing taxes, applying for government jobs, and getting birth and death certificates, AADHAR, PAN, EPFO , e-sign . The government is also developing e-commerce platforms to promote e-business. One of the radical consequences of Digital India is its effect on Indian economy . India ranked second in terms of digital economy , and first in digital transactions with a huge 89.5 million digital
transactions and 2,348 transactions every second . The substantial
effect was UPI, an instant payment system developed by NPCI . No other country has such fast , secure and mammoth network of digital transaction . India currently shares its UPI technology with Singapore , France , Malaysia , Bhutan , Nepal , UAE , UK , Russia etc. In addition to the above, the Digital India initiative can also help to: Improve the quality of education by providing online learning resources to students. Make healthcare more accessible by providing telemedicine services. Promote sustainable development by providing e-services for farmers and fishermen. Improve disaster management by providing early warning systems and real-time information sharing. Provides an aid to the other key schemes of India, such as Make in India, Standup India, Industrial corridors, Startup India, Sagarmala, UDAN-RCS,etc. The list is endless ………. As the Digital India mission progresses, its ripple effects are perceivable . From startups in Bengaluru leveraging Artificial Intelligence to farmers in Madhya Pradesh using smartphones to maximize crop yields, the nation is witnessing a technological rebirth. However, with increased digitization come challenges like cybersecurity, data privacy, and the threat of digital disparity. Tackling these will require continuous adaptation, learning, and public-private collaboration. In conclusion , the 'Digital India' initiative is not just about technological progress. It's about a renewed national spirit, where every citizen, regardless of age, gender, or socioeconomic background, has a stake in the nation's digital future. This is the dawn of a new India - an India where dreams materialize through digital avenues, and possibilities are limitless. The road ahead is long, but with collective effort, the vision of a digitally inclusive India is within reach. Undoubtedly , “ Digital India is for a New India “
