THREE-PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS FOR COMPRESSOR

USER MANAUAL

OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL FOR THREE-PHASE INDUCTION MOTORS

FOR COMPRESSOR (ENGLISH)
[在此处键入]

1. General
This manual has been established to provide instructions for the service

condition, installation, operation, maintenance, storage and transportation of the

three-phase induction motor for compressors. Please see the detailed status of

operation and rating on nameplate and instruction plate. In this manual, it is

impossible to include all the probability of the happenings during installation,

operation and maintenance. If the problem is not included in this manual, please

contact with manufacturer.

The three-phase induction motor for compressors is commonly used in the

following condition: (unless otherwise mentioned in agreement)

Ambient temperature: not exceed 46℃

Altitude: not exceed 1000 meters above sea level.

Frequency: 50Hz or 60Hz variable frequency motor,

reference frequency 50Hz or 60Hz etc

Voltage: 220V、230V、380V or special

requirement for 400V, 415V, 460V etc

Connection: Delta (△)

Duty: S1

Insulation: F

Protection Class ODP, TEFC or IP23, IP44, IP54, IP55 etc

2. Preparation for installation

1 ) Inspect the motor packing before unpacking to see if there has any damage

of the packing or any affection with damp.

2 ) The motor must be clean out of dust and rust-proof layer with care after

unpacking.

3 ) Inspect the nameplate to see that the data fulfilled operation requirements.

4 ) Inspect the motor carefully to see if there is any damage or structural

distortion during transportation. Inspect also all the screws and nuts to see whether

there are any missing or loosing. Rotate the rotor with hand to see whether the motor

can rotate easily or not.

5 ) Measure the windings insulation with a 500V megger. The value of the

insulation resistance must not less than 0.5 megohms, otherwise the stator windings

must be dried. The temperature of this dry treatment must not exceed 120℃. The

windings insulation should not be damaged.

3. Installation
1 ) The flexible couplings can be used and directly coupled with compressor.

2 ) The center line of the motor shaft and the driven shaft must be aligned

when use couplings.

3 ) The circumstance of motor must be ensured to have good ventilation and

cooling condition after installation.

4. Operation
1 ) Motors must be well grounded. For motors with terminal box, there are

grounding provisions in the terminal box. For motors without terminal box, there are

grounding provisions on the frame. It can also use the bolts on the foot base or

flange plate of the motor for good earth connection if necessary.

2 ) For motors with terminal box, there are six connection terminals on the

terminal board, the symbols are as following. For motors without terminal box, there

are also symbols on six leads.

The symbols of the six leads:

Phase A B C

sequence

head T1 T2 T3

terminal T4 T5 T6

3 ) The connection method is in accordance with the nameplate.

The method for connecting six leads to △ or Y is as following:

Power supply Power supply

△ connection Y connection

When the phase sequence A, B, C of the power supply respectively corresponds

with the connection terminal symbols T1, T2, T3, the direction of rotation of the

motor, looked from the shaft extension end, is clockwise. (unless otherwise

mentioned) The direction of rotation will be counter-clockwise when the phase

sequence of the power supply is changed.

4 ) These motors can be started at full voltage or at under voltage (using

reactor or Y-△ start). It must be noticed that the starting current will be 5-7 times of

the rated current when the motor is started at full voltage. The starting torque of the

motor is directly proportional to the square of the voltage when the motor is started at

under voltage. It is suitable to start the motor at under voltage when the capacity of

the supply network is insufficient. And the motor can be started at full voltage when

the static load is very large.

5 ) For ensuring to operate motor safely and economically and avoiding motor

fault. The motors must be provided with thermal protection and short-circuit

protection devices. The current value setting of the protection device must be

adjusted according to the motor current on the nameplate.

6 ) The change of voltage and frequency during operation, The deviation of the

power supply frequency with the nameplate frequency exceeds 1% or the voltage

deviation exceeds 5%, the motor can also be ensured to give out rated torque

continuously. The motor performance in this condition will be allowed not accordant

entirely with the performance at rated voltage and rated frequency. There may be

some difference. The temperature rise will be higher than the one at rated voltage

and rated frequency.

7 ) The motor must not have any intermittent or abnormal noise or vibration,

when in no load or load operation. The temperature of the bearings must not exceed

95℃.

5. Maintenance and repair

1 ) The environment of running motors must keep constantly dry. The surface

of motors must also keep constantly clean. Ventilation opening must not be

obstructed by dust, fiber and other small particles.

2 ) When the thermal protection or the short-circuit protraction device actuates

continuously, fault examination must be carried out to see whether the fault is coming

from the motor or is due to overload or is due to the lower setting value of the

protection devices. After the fault is eliminated, the motor can again put into

operation.

3 ) The motor bearing must have good lubrication during operation. Commonly

the supplement or change of lubrication grease must be carried out after 2000 hours

of operation. (For enclosed bearings, there is no need to change the lubrication

grease within the useful life). Any overheating of the bearings or grease deterioration

appears during operation, lubrication grease must be changed promptly.

When changing the lubrication grease, the old lubrication grease should be

cleaned out firstly, then the bearings and the slots of bearing cap must be cleaned by

gasoline before filling the POLYREX EM lubrication grease in l/2 of the cavity

between the inner and outer rings of the bearing (for 2 poles) or in 2/3 of the cavity

(for 4、6、8 poles).

4 ) At the end of the useful life for bearing, the vibration and noise during

operation will obviously increased, the bearing must be changed promptly.

5 ) The rotor can be taken out from both the shaft extension end and the non-

drive end when disassembling the motor. If there is no need to dismantle the fan, it is

easier to take out the rotor at the non-drive end. Care must be taken not to damage

the stator windings or insulation when drawing out the rotor from the stator.

6 ) When changing windings, the following data must be taken down: winding

type, dimensions, turns, wire gauge etc. When these data are missed, the factory

can be required to supply them. For any alteration of the original designed windings,

bad result will occur such as the deterioration of certain or some motor performance

or even the motor will be completely useless.

6. Storage and transportation of motors

1 ) Motor must be kept dry during storage. The rapid change of ambient

temperature must be avoided.

2 ) In storage, motors should not be piled up too high in order to give good

ventilation and give no damage to the packing of the lower motor.

3 ) Topple down or upside down of motors must be prevented during storage

and transportation.

4 ) For motors without terminal box, the damage of leads and symbols must be

prevented during storage and transportation.
