GUIDELINES FOR WRITING INTERNSHIP REPORT
This document has been designed to guide students of the Department of Electrical Engineering
on writing their internship reports. All students are required to strictly respect these guidelines and
format prescribed for their internship reports.
General overview

NB: The typed pages should be in spiral binding in black and white color, with a cover page
printed on blue. A hard and soft copy should be submitted to the Department of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering.

Format and Contents of the report


The report should have the following format which comprises some preliminary pages (Title
page, Table of Contents, Dedication, and Acknowledgement) as well as some chapters/sections:

Details of some elements in the structure of report are as follow:


Title Page
Contains title (including subtitle), name of the University and Faculty, with UB logo, name of the
company where you did internship, student name and registration number/matricule, professional
and academic supervisor(s), their institutions and email addresses
Table of Contents
Should contain a list of all headings and subheadings with page numbers, indent subheadings.
Dedication
This section contains the name of a person or group of persons in whose honour the report is
written. (This is optional and can be left out) e.g. To my parents, Mr and Mrs NEBA
To the NEBA family
Acknowledgement
In this section you acknowledge the assistance and support of the people who helped you in the
completion of your internship and internship report. Start by thanking your academic and
professional officials (supervisors, faculty and company heads, lecturers/collaborators, etc)
followed by family members and friends.
List of Tables
List page numbers of all tables. The list should include a short title for each table but not the whole
caption. Should be generated automatically when using MS Office.
List of Figures
List page numbers of all figures. The list should include a short title for each table but not the
whole caption. Should be generated automatically when using MS Office.
List of Abbreviations
List and give significations of all abbreviations used in your report. List them in alphabetical order.
General Introduction
This chapter introduces your internship activities by some brief statements (definition of
internship, goals and objectives of internship), the presentation of company where internship is
carried out (name, location, objective, history, structure/organization, etc. of the company),
internship formalities and routines.
Internship experience
In this chapter, you will describe your internship activities (day to day activities) and period during
which they were carried out. Write brief and concise notes on:
your first day in the company,
the department(s) in which you were posted,
the tasks assigned to you,
how you performed them,
your relationship with others, etc.
Internship Project
Brief description of the facility/system under interest and problem statement. Working principle,
advantages and limitations of the system, applications of the system, types of systems available
(advanced) and their merits and demerits etc. Indicate the engineering tools and procedures
implemented. Observations from the work carried out, outcome and specific recommendations to
the company.
Conclusion and Recommendations
Make a brief appraisal of your internship, highlighting the key challenges and recommendations
to the company. You are required to suggest engineering solutions for all the problems and
challenges you encountered.
References
Cite all ideas, concepts, text, data that are not your own. If you make a statement, back it up with
your own data or a reference. All references cited in the text must be listed. Use the APA reference
style here.
Appendices
Include copies of any important documents.
