Dear Ms. Smith,

Thank you so much for interviewing me for the open sales position. I appreciate the time you
spent explaining the hiring process and how your training program works. You’re clearly very
knowledgeable about sales and marketing.

I enjoy working in sales and believe I would be an excellent fit for the position. I love a challenge,
and you innovative training program intrigues me.

As we discussed during the interview, my sales numbers at my current job increased by 50

percent over the past three years, and I was at the top of our sales force last year. I’m confident
that combining my current experience with your training program will allow me to reach the top
of your sales force as well.

Thank you again for taking the time to talk to me about the position. I believe I can benefit your

In the sample cover letter, in the middle paragraph it does not contain the reason why the
applicant is applying for the position in the company while he put the highlights of his skills and
qualifications. The sample resume, on the other hand, has a perfect form of resume with including
only appropriate information although he also forgot to put his address in the resume while he
put email address. He however put ‘references available on request’ which is an unnecessary line.
He also implied what he wants to do in the company through referring his strong background. He
only wrote about his college degree-bachelor of science- not about high school. Moreover, he put
his ability to speak second language in a certain level so he emphasized that he can communicate
with foreign people as his strength.

In the sample thank-you letter, she made a clear letter with her strengths, appreciation, and the
expectations. Sample reference page has a perfect information, simply referring his previous
supervisors and co-workers with their addresses, phone numbers, email, and their positions.

3. It’s your turn to write your cover letter, resume, and reference page. Using the Internet and the
newspapers, choose a teaching advertisement that interests you. Then, write a cover letter,
resume, and reference page that responds to this job advertisement. Be guided by what you have
learned so far about these documents.

For writing resumes, use the following plan in order to organize the information that you need.
