I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our Principal Madam, Mrs. VINITA VINCY V who
gave us the opportunity to do this wonderful project on the topic Sacrifices and sufferings faced
by the Indian unsung martyrs for gaining freedom which helped me in doing a lot of research and
I came to know about so many new things.
Secondly, I would like to thank my parents and friends who helped me a lot in finishing this
project within the given time frame.

Behind the celebration of Independence on 15th August 1947, there is a violent and chaotic
history of fierce rebellions, wars, and movements done by thousands of spirited Indian freedom
fighters.
All these freedom fighters of India fought, struggled, and even sacrificed their lives in an effort
to free India from British rule.
To end the reign of foreign imperialists and their Colonialism in India, a great number of
revolutionaries and activists from diverse family backgrounds came together and embarked on a
mission.
Many of us might have heard of some of them, but there are so many prominent heroes whose
contributions have not been celebrated.
To respect their efforts and devotion, we have made a list of 25 top freedom fighters of India,
without them we wouldn’t be breathing in Independent India.
Hundreds and thousands left everything, and many sacrificed their life for one common goal -
the freedom of India from foreign rule!
These freedom fighters, activists, and revolutionaries came from different backgrounds and
philosophies to fight one common enemy - the foreign imperialists!
While we are aware of several freedom fighters and revolutionaries, many have remained unsung
heroes.
I have made my best efforts to present some of the unsung freedom activists and revolutionaries who
made immense contributions towards India’s struggle for freedom and left uncelebrated…

Freedom… It might seem like a small 7-letter word but it means the world. Add the word ‘fighter’ to it
and the term turns into an undisputable force of courage, strength and an indomitable spirit. The very
three qualities that define the freedom fighters of our great and glorious nation.
Truly, the sacrifices our freedom fighters made 75 years ago so we could live with our heads held high
in the present cannot be put into words. Their selfless contribution to our safety and wellbeing is beyond
measure. They are the very personification of patriotism, emblematic of the bravery and the spirit of
service this nation prides itself in.
We cannot even imagine the amount of courage it takes to stand at the very borders of our nation, look
our enemies in the eye and sacrifice your life without a trace of fear. To endure the hardships that come
living on the battlefield, to leave your family behind without knowing if you will ever see them again,
and to watch your fellow soldiers die on the battlefield – it requires nerves of steel to go through them
all, and to go through it with smiles on their faces and pride in their hearts is an exceptional feat.

As a nation, we are truly indebted to them for life for what they have done for us. It is because of their
sacrifices that we are able to live safely in our homes, that we can walk fearlessly on the streets, and can
prosper and thrive, taking this nation to new heights of success. We can only strive to make their
sacrifices worth their while by making India a strong and safe country to live. A country where there is
freedom of speech, where oppression is a thing of the past, and where everyone can live freely without
fear.
Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Rani Laxmi Bai, and other
well-known independence warriors led the charge to liberate India from the British Raj. Apart from
these independence warriors, there were others whose sole motivation was to liberate India from British
control. However, for a variety of reasons, we are unfamiliar with their faces. They have given up their
life and their happiness in the hopes of a brighter tomorrow. Birsa Munda, Kamala Das, Kamaladevi
Chattopadhyay, Khudiram Bose, and others are among the faces. Their contributions must be valued in
the same manner that we value the contributions of well-known freedom fighters. With these popular
faces, we have somehow forgotten the faces of those who have contributed to the freedom struggle.
Now it is time to pay tribute to these faces.
