ABSTRACT

This study focused on the research preparedness of Grade 10 students at Amlang-

Nagtagaan National High School for the academic year 2023-2024. It aimed to determine

the demographic profile of the learners, including gender, age, and their quarter grades in

Mathematics, English, and Science. Additionally, the study examined the level of

research understanding, self-efficacy, and attitude towards research. It also explored if

there is a significant difference between the demographic profile and research

preparedness of the respondents, as well as the relationship among different levels of

research preparedness.

The study involved a sample of forty (80) Grade 10 learners. Data were collected

using a structured questionnaire, and frequency counts, percentages, rankings, and

average weighted mean were used for analysis.

Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female (55%) and aged

14 to 16 years old (95%). In terms of quarter grades, most respondents obtained grades

ranging from 80-85 in Mathematics, English, and Science.

Regarding research preparedness, respondents showed moderate familiarity with

the statement "Care and safety of all human research subjects" and strong agreement with

the statements "When facing difficult tasks, I am certain that I will accomplish them" and

"I am interested in research."

Significant differences were found between gender and understanding of research,

while no significant differences were observed between gender and self-efficacy or

attitude towards research. Significant differences were also found between age and

understanding of research, but not between age and self-efficacy or attitude towards

research. Furthermore, significant differences were observed between Mathematics,

English, and Science grades and understanding of research.

Significant relationships were found among different levels of research

preparedness. There was a significant relationship between understanding of research and

self-efficacy, self-efficacy and attitude towards research, and attitude towards research

and understanding of research.

These findings provide insights into the research preparedness of Grade 10

students and highlight the importance of demographic factors and individual perceptions.

They can contribute to the development of strategies to enhance research skills and

attitudes among students.
