INTRODUCTION

Based on the case study, Personally yours is an establishment that involves a wide range

of services typically residential housekeeping, grocery shopping, household organization, home

organization, home companion, adult daycare and even handy person services. Broadly speaking,

the essence of every business is to prioritize consumers' needs above all else. Regardless of the

quality of the product and services if the product or services does not deliver the proposed value

intended, customers are likely to deflect to using other competitors that is why it is essential

during the idea creation phase of product development to analyse these key components, how the

intended product or services would influence customers purchasing decisions and also how the

product or services would reflect or represent the company’s image.

Additionally, a feasibility study is carried out by Personally yours, to determine whether

a product, services or business would be successful and how they can develop their brand and set

it apart from other competitors. Feasibility study is overarching and focuses on the strength,

weaknesses, opportunities and threats. It also evaluates how both external and internal factors

can affect the business. From the case study, Personally yours has examined that they made a

huge blunder during the recruitment process by not examining employee background check

before hiring. Inorder to forge ahead in the business, the company interfaces with me ( HR

manager) to determine if it is mandatory to carry out a background check or not. And also steps

that would be involved in conducting these checks if necessary.

What is a background check

A background check is an assessment method an employer uses to verify the accuracy of

the information a job candidate provides in their application.


From my own perspective i would strongly recommend that Personally yours runs a background

check on all employees because it enables a company possess proper record of their employee.

Personally yours runs an indoor service business that involve having access to customers

possessions, vulnerable individuals like kids and even the customers. It is imperative that the

employees in question are have decent disposition. They must be trustworthy, honest, posses

integrity etc as any hint of unethical behavior can affect the companies credibility and reputation.

It can also lead to multiply lawsuits which can reduce productivity and performance.

To avoid such issues, it important that Personally yours take the following measures;

1. In compliance with Fair Credit Reporting Act (FRCA) the management needs to notify

candidates about background checks which could be done either via email or face to face

conversations, notifying employees of the specific areas the company intends to check.

The essence of this is to get their consent and signature confirming their approval. You

never can tell an employee might just splutter out their blunder prior the time.

2. Review state laws about background check regulations- before proceeding to conduct a

background check, it is necessary that a background check is in accordance with the state

specific laws and regulation regarding what information employers can check and what

information constitutes dismissal for a candidate within your state.

3. Contact candidates reference- filing is an important step in keeping records for future

references. Therefore, It is imperative that the HR manager refer back to employees file

particularly the contractual agreement form which comprises of the reference form. The

reference form is a form filled by people that claim to know the employee well. People

that can be held accountable in case of any blunder or issue. It must consist of reference
name and contact information typically valid phone number of 2 or 3 referencesthat can

be contacted to provide more information about the employee.

4. Use a back ground check website to review records

The company can also decide to hire a professional background checking service to

unravel evidence of any criminal background and other civil records. The company can

also use online background checking websites which may require a fee to gain access to

public records

5. Ask the employee to take a drug test

Since the employee would be working around homes. It is important that the company

organises drug test to ensure the safety of customers.

6. Review the result and determine an employee’s validity- eventually, based on assessment

the company would be able to ascertain the employees that should be retained or laid off.

In conclusion

From my own perspective, i think Jackson Tibbits should be retained. The incident of

sexual assault occured 17 years ago although theres still a tenuous chance that most

culprit deflect from good conduct to unhealthy practices. Its also plausible that he has

undergone rehabilitation and is much better. Also based on their findings, theres been no

knowledge of whether the incident reoccured. In a case of no reoccurrence, a termination

would not be justified. However, if the workplace involves or law enforcement, or

positions that require certain licenses, then that is a different story. However i would

strongly recommend that he should be monitored closely
