2 Application notes
This section lists considerations and limitations for operational behavior. See section 6 for a list
of known open issues. Standard system behaviors are listed in the unit data sheets for the
devices in their respective Product Guides.
For a list of ONTs and their respective package types, see Hardware Compatibility in chapter 3.

2.1 ONT hardware and general considerations and limitations

Section 2.1 is an overview of general considerations and limitations. For specific package
limitations, see the subsequent sections. Section 2.1 does not apply for Package P ONTs.
Deviations from these considerations and limitations may be noted in the application notes
section for a specific ONT.
 Configure the pbits for CFM to be the same as that of a service on the Bridgeport.
 The customer documentation includes content for some devices that are not
supported in this particular release. See the Nokia ONT Software Compatibility
Matrix For the list of supported devices; see section to learn how to access
documentation. to learn how to access documentation.
 For ONTs supporting gigabit Ethernet, half duplex is not supported.
 SFU ONTs that have more than one LAN port can only support translating the
original ANI PBITs to a single UNI PBIT. If multiple different PBIT translations are
provisioned for the ANI VLAN, the ONT will use only one of provisioned UNI PBITs.
 For SFU and HGU ONTs which have more than one LAN port, only 128 Ethernet
service flows and up to 8 VLANs per UNI are supported.
 When using multicast on multiple Ethernet ports, all Ethernet ports use the same
VLAN ID. If the user-side VLAN IDs are all identical, that common VLAN ID should
be used; if not, VLAN ID 4094 is used.
 ONT serial number is 10 digits according to GPON G984.3 standard.
 ONT does not provide a list of typical applications or the most used ports during the
configuration of the firewall.
 ONT only supports ping and trace-route for failure diagnosis. Ethernet OAM
(802.1ag) is not supported.
 For 802.11, the following selections are available:
 ac is 802.11ac
 b is 802.11b
 g is 802.11g
 bg is 802.11b and 802.11g
 n is 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n
 auto is 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n
 Anti-spoofing support (MAC + IP) is not available.
 802.1x is not supported.

Edition 01 3FE-47658-KAAA-FMZZA | 10
Customer Release Notes Application notes

 ONT only supports TPID pattern 0x8100 for VLAN tag detection, the “Filter Outer
TPID” or “Filter Inner TPID” are always ignored by ONT.
 TPID overwrite is not supported (QoS marker profile).
 IGMPv3 snooping without SSM is supported. IGMPv3 snooping with SSM is not
supported.
 The ONTs depend on UNI port, VLAN-ID, and VLAN priority to classify the upstream
flows. Ethertype and Ethertype + VLAN classification modes are not used.
Therefore, after all VLAN operations are performed, packets may be mapped to
different GEM ports if it at least one of the following conditions are true:
 they are from different UNIs
 the resulting VLAN IDs are different
 ONTs in package C/E support weight value from 1 to 63 when an upstream queue is
scheduled in WFQ/WRR mode. A provisioned weight bigger than 63 will be
processed in ONT as 63.
 The ONTs do not support the parameter NUMTAGS=DOUBLE using the ENT-
SERVICE-FLOW command. When NUMTAGS is set to ALL, the behavior of single
is used.
 GEM performance monitoring counter of all service flow must be enabled at first by
TL1 command (set-pmmode-pononttc:: PONONTTCFLOW), then WAN status PON
counters will have correct readings.
 The DSCP marker for L2 traffic is not supported.
 ONT will only support two DSCP markers for I and VoIP.
 The DSCP value is fixed – not configurable.
 DSCP markers are not supported for special applications such as PING.
 ONT only supports “un-tag” TxMode for downstream packets with PVID. Once a
VLAN port is provisioned as “PVID”, there would be 3 EVTOCD rules in upstream
such as:
 untagged packets > adding PVID
 priority-tagged packets > converting to PVID
 packets with PVID > passing through to OLT
 In downstream, HGU only supports fixed TxMode of this PVID: untagged – Normal
Mode. All downstream packets with VLAN ID of PVID will be untagged before
sending from UNI ports.
 In case tagged mode is needed in downstream, user can use VLAN port other than
PVID. This limitation will not impact applications.
 ONTs based on this chipset can support max 8 UNI+VLAN_ID connections (un-tag
traffic on each UNI is also treated as a separate connection)
 Static multicast is not supported
 The following auto-negotiation modes are not supported:
 10_100_1000BASETAUTO
 1000BASETHD
 AUTOFD
 AUTOHD

11 3FE-47658-KAAA-FMZZA Edition 01
Application notes Customer Release Notes

 100BASETAUTO
 1000BASETAUTO
 ONTENET does not come into service when the AUTODETECT mode is changed
from an unsupported mode to a supported mode. To work around this issue, delete
the ONTENET configuration and re-provision.
 Two 15-minute intervals are required for retrieving performance monitoring history
counters since the PM timing is not synchronized between the OLT and the ONT.
Thus, a valid PM count can be assured after two 15 minutes intervals have elapsed.
 The following IPv6 multicast features are supported:
 upstream: ONT will pass-through IPv6 based IGMP message. There is no IPv6
based IGMP snooping supported
 downstream: ONT will flood IPv6 based multicast to all the UNI ports in ONT
 ONT cannot support flooding
 Ethernet CFM (802.1ag + Y.1731) supports the following:
 LBR (802.1ag) – Loopback Reply
 LTR (802.1ag) – Link trace Reply
 DMR (Y.1731) – Delay Measurement Reply
 LMR (Y.1731) – Loss Measurement Reply
 The ONT does not support a non-intrusive rogue ONT test.
 The ONT has a maximum of 64 entries in the ACL table. As a result, the customer
needs to take action (e.g., have unconfigured streams) when more than 64 streams
are allocated to an IGMP channel on the ONT.
 The following unicast IPv6 features are supported:
 ONT will support to access both untagged IPv6 package and tagged IPv6
packets
 IPv6 L3 features cannot be supported, (for example, IPv6 based DSCP to p-bit
mapping cannot be supported)
 The VLAN operation and QoS strategy for both IPv4 and IPv6 frame is the
same
 ONT does not support upstream flows without specific VLAN ID. In OLT TL1, this is
the case UNISIDE-VLAN is 4096. VLAN Operation Rules definition @ ME 171.
 When ONGSIG = enable, ONT supports filtering downstream multicast traffic based
on (V, G) (corresponding to OLT “VLAN-selection” mode). ONT cannot support
multicast filtering based on (*, G). That is, ONT does not support OLT using “non-
VLAN-selection” mode.
 EtherType to service flow mapping is not supported in this release because it can
only be provisioned in I mode.
 ONTs support SSH feature.
 MDUs cannot support GEM sharing.
 Package E, Package C, and Package I ONTs do not support counters for fragment,
they only support counters for packet.
 Package C, E, I, and J ONTs have limitation to support EtherType filter and VLAN
Operation

Edition 01 3FE-47658-KAAA-FMZZA | 12
Customer Release Notes Application notes

 DSP firmware cannot apply EtherType filter to untagged packets only.

 For untagged packets, DSP firmware provides fixed VLAN.
 TXFRAGS and RXFRAGS performance monitoring statistic counters roll over after a
max count of 4294967296 bytes.
 ISAM does not support display of TL1 alarms in UTC.
 Configuration of RXGAIN and TXGAIN is not supported in OMCIv2. Rx and Tx gain
are configurable via XML file.
 For OMCIv2: REPT-OPSTAT-ONTPOTS and REPT-OPSTAT-ONTSIPCONFIG
commands are not supported.
 For package C, E, I, K ONTs, single tag rule does not apply to p-tag packets, ONT
needs special p-tag rule from OLT.
 Separate Queue Priority is not supported in ISAM and will always go with p-bit
priority mapped to the Queue
 IPv6 support for TR069 Management channel
 IPv6 support for TR069 only take effect when wan is pureIpv6. Dual Stack use
TR069 Ipv4 only
 Policy route for TR069 Ipv6 has no expires
 Not support TR181 mode
 TR069 Ipv6 is not supported on Mesh scenario
 For products with integrated Mesh solution (G-240W-G, G-140W-H, G-240W-E, G-
240W-J), Wi-Fi 5G cannot support auto bandwidth and fixed channel mapping.
 Modem protocol V23C is not supported by AONT.
 G-2425G-B: HW and SW feature parity against G-240W-B/G-240W-C and must
support OP.ID STXX.
For 5G Wi-Fi Dynamic Bandwidth Channel, this feature can only be supported on
5G chips of the vendor of G-240W-B/G-240W-C, etc. All solutions of the vendor of
G-2425G-B do not support this feature.
So it also has this limitation compared with G-240W-B/G-240W-C.
 When VLAN binding is configured over a LAN port against IPTV bridge WAN, both
user side VLAN and IPTV bridge WAN VLAN should be the same.
 The disclosed security keys are changed since BBDr2103. When downgrade to BBD
R21.02 (or earlier release) processing, modification of some configurations such as
key/password/username after startup will not be migrated to BBD R21.02 (or earlier
release).
MDU IGMP Rate-limiting Behavior. Configured IGMP Rate-limiting value will not be directly
used by MDU-SoC driver. IGMP Rate-limiting value (Max-Msg-Rate) will be converted to
bitrate (bps) by MDU-SoC driver APIs and programmed in the chipset. SoC driver APIs will
internally calculate bitrate for 64-byte frame size with configured rate-limit value. We will get
the exact egress rate for configured rate-limit value with packets of 64-byte frame size. The
egress rate will decrease on increase in frame size.

Application notes Customer Release Notes

2.2 Upgrade or migration considerations and limitations

 Existing ONTs running on 7342 ISAM FTTU releases older than R04.06.xx and
R04.07.xx must be upgraded to the current release software to be used with a 7360
ISAM FX. PON ID value smaller than 64 must be assigned. For this purpose, if split
ratios larger than 1:64 are being deployed, the operator may choose to set aside the
first PON ID as a staging point. Contact your Nokia support representative for more
information about performing the upgrade.
 For customer field deployment, the typical upgrade scenario is to support software
upgrade from one older release to this release. In some special cases, a software
rollback from this release to that older release may be needed. This typical upgrade
and rollback scenario is supported.
 For 7342 ISAM OLT build earlier than R4.9 (such as R4.8, R4.7, etc.), upgrading
ONU SW image function is not supported due to 16M ONU image size limitation on
the OLT side. It is recommended to upgrade the OLT build to R4.9 or later releases.
 If PRE configuration file is applied in current release, it is recommended to make
validation after ONT software is migrated to new release before deployment.

It is not recommended to perform a software downgrade from this release to older releases
as adverse results may occur.
Please contact your Nokia customer support representative with questions regarding these
upgrade restrictions and the process to be followed.
 Release 05.05.01 introduced an encrypted database for security. Software released
prior to R05.05.01 uses an earlier database type, consequently there are limitations
for software downgrades. Please observe the following to upgrade from R05.04.01m
to R05.05.01, using old database:
 Perform migration based on old database.
 Generate encrypted database.
Configuration will be saved into encrypted database in 05.05.01.
Please note that if you roll back to release 05.04.01m, which uses the old database,
configuration saved in step 2 will be lost.

• Configure the pbits for CFM to be the same as that of a service on the Bridgeport.
• For wireless ONTs that are operated in Residential Gateway mode: Call History Data
collection (ONTCALLHST) is supported with exception of the following parameters: RTP
packets discarded, far-end RTCP and RTCP-XR participation, RTCP average and peak
round trip delay, MOS, average jitter, number of jitter buffer over-runs and under runs.
• The following voice features / GSIP parameters are configurable on a per-Client/ per-ONT
basis (not per-Subscriber):
• Enable Caller ID and Enable Caller Name ID
• Digitmap and the associated Interdigit and Critical timers and Enter key parameters
• Warmline timer
Note: Warmline is enabled per subscriber, but the warmline timer value is configured per ONT
and must have a lower value than the Permanent timer
• Miscellaneous timers: Permanent, Timed-release, Reanswer, Error-tone and CW-alert
timers
• Features / functions: Message waiting mode, WMWI refresh interval, DTMF volume level
• Service Codes for the following features: CCW, Call Hold and Warmline
• ONTs can support traffic classification based on UNI port, VLAN-ID, and VLAN priority and
Ethernet type.
• The ONTs are not able to sufficiently buffer enough traffic between grants to support an EIR
rate configured at 1 Gb/s over multiple GEM ports.
The buffers are divided amongst the number of GEM ports configured. To get more upstream
buffering to achieve higher upstream traffic rates requires reducing the number of GEM
ports configured.
• VLAN unaware CFM feature is not supported for 7342 platform.
• A UNI port can only have one TCONT that uses DSCP-to-Pbit mapping of IPv4/IPv6
untagged frames received on ingress of UNI port.
• IPv6 L3 features are not supported.
• Configuration of RXGAIN and TXGAIN is not supported in OMCIv2. Rx and Tx gain are
configurable via XML file
• When OLT-to-ONT signaling is enabled, ONT multicast forward is based on VLAN and
multicast group. When OLT-to-ONT signaling is disabled, ONT multicast forward is based
on multicast group only or group and source IP address to forward.
• Due to SoC limitation downstream rate limit is not working on these ONTs.
• Use Softphone for VoIP, the UDP port is ranged between (22456:22584).

• In N:MP mode, MAC learning is enabled.

• On 7360 OLT residential bridge configuration, ipv4-mcast-ctrl needs to be enabled on the
residential VLAN in order for IGMP to not be rate limited when the IGMP channel is deleted
from the residential bridge.
• If ponid-interval is enabled in 7360 ISAM, ONT will fail to upgrade when active ONT
software version is earlier than R05.05.01.
Use below method to avoid upgrade failure in case of such scenario:
• Use the command info configure pon interface <PON Interface (like 1/1/1/2)> to retrieve the
ponid-interval
• If the ponid-interval exists, disable it with the command configure pon interface <PON
Interface (like as 1/1/1/2)> no ponid-interval
• Once the software upgrades successfully, you can enable poinid-interval again.
• When the ONT is rebooted with NTP enabled, a few host devices connected to the ONT
display the old time. When NTP is enabled and time is synchronized, after a reboot with
multiple connected devices present a few host entries have the ONT default time values (in
1970 year). The remaining ONTs display the correct synced time. The reason is because
few host entries are learned before NTP is synchronized after reboot. However, the
incorrect host entries display the correct NTP time once their state (active/inactive)
changes.
• You cannot use URL filtering for HTTPS. The URL is encrypted when using HTTPS.
• A maximum of 16 service flows (VLANs) can be enabled with p-bit translation per ONT.
• Ookla maximum speed reading with local Ookla server due to CPU limitation:

2.3.1 Software multiservice IPDR considerations and limitations

• IPDR count incorrect for PON fiber Pull. After an ONT/PON fiber pull, MAC addresses will
be deleted from the bridge but remain learned on OLT (VLAN and MAC address both still
learned). Since the bridge does not know which bridge port the MAC address belongs to,
DS flow will be broadcast until the MAC address is learned. This results in all ENET ports
reporting packet/byte counts for the DS filters that are applied to the bridge ports.

2.3.2 G-140W-H considerations and limitations

• With specific Network Card and country code set as ID on ONT, the network card will enter
into outdoor mode and only supports 149 channels. In this case, the BW will be limited to
20MHz;
• Due to image size limitation for old OLT release, G-140W-H SW migration via OMCI is not
supported with old 7360 OLT release, including 7360 ISR5301f release; SW matrix
document 3FE-47658-EBAA-TQZZA can be referred for OLT and ONT IOP matrix.

2.3.3 G-240W-C considerations and limitations

• The maximum transmission unit (MTU) size is 1990 bytes due to an SoC limitation.
• If the STA cancels the WPS connection, the WPS LED will not turn off until a 300s timeout
duration.
• FTP service can only support upload/download action to USB disk, any operation on any
other directory may lead to system reset.
• The WIFI SSID does not support the following characters: $ &^ `< > ( ) + ,
• P-bit and DSCP marking for different control packets
TR-069 DSCP/PBIT remarking via QueueManagement Classification Table
ONT supports configuration of DSCP/PBIT remarking for DHCP client and ARP frames. While
both DSCP and PBIT can be configured for DHCP client frames, Ethernet PBIT can be
configured for ARP frames. The configuration is applicable for all WAN connections for ARP
frames, and dynamic IP WAN connection for DHCP client frames.
The filter configuration for DHCP client frame is Protocol (udp - 17), DestPort (67) and filter
configuration for ARP frame is Ethertype (0x806). DSCPMark and EthernetPriorityMark
attributes are used for setting DSCP and PBIT respectively.
• VID+PBIT for both GEM & UNI are not supported due to non-support of HW.
• The following counters are not supported for upstream direction:
• CRC error frames
• Undersize frames
• Oversize frames
• Frames 64 octets
• Frames 65 to 127 octets
• Frames 128 to 255 octets
• Frames 256 to 511 octets
• Frames 512 to 1023 octets
• Frames 1024 to 1518 octets
• CRC error frames counter is not supported for the downstream traffic.
• Encryption key errors counters of 9.2.13/341/ GEM port network CTP performance
monitoring history not supported due to HW limitation (G.987 related counters not
supported)

• 9.5.3/89/Ethernet performance monitoring history data 2' PM counters cannot be supported

due to chipset limitation.
• DHCP client of G-240W-B cannot support DHCP messages larger than 776 bytes (L3)
DHCP client does not accept messages exceeding 576 bytes length. DHCP client is modified to
handle up to 776 bytes length (L3 length, starting from IP header without IP option), 200
bytes more, from DHCP server. 794 L2 (776 at L3) is accepted. 795 L2 (777 at L3) will not
be accepted. DHCP client does not support any IP options in the DHCP message received
from DHCP server.
• Wifi SSID5 is the master interface the physical interface of other virtual interfaces (SSID
6/7/8); To support SSID 6/7/8 work, SSID5 should not be disabled.
• MU-MIMO performance with different client's chipsets may vary.
• DTMF Telephony event header in SDP needs is not aligned with I-240W-A.
• The RG ONTs G-240W-B and G-240W-C, G-440G-A (HGU) and G-240G-C (HGU) do not
support multiple IPv6 WAN interfaces; when the operator creates more than one IPv6 WAN
interfaces, the routing is always done on the last IPv6 WAN interface created.
• You can only change the following GSIP parameters value two times when downloading
FTP XML online:
• PulseBreakMin
• PulseBreakMax
• PulseMakeMin
• PulseMakeMax
• PulseInterDigitMin
• FlashHookMin
• FlashHookMax
• OnHookMin
• OffHookMin
To change these hook parameters more than two times, you must reboot ONT and then make
changes.
• Supporting GRE tunnel and Bridge Mode requires the use of different VLAN IDs for each
different traffic flow. The WiFi throughput, especially for TCP and UPD, may be reduced
due to the additional VLAN processing.
• IP Address 192.168.2.x is reserved by RG ONT for internal use and thus the operator is not
allowed to use 192.168.2.x for the LAN subnets.
• When network timeouts occur in Windows for large file transfers (example: large video
files), please change the setting in windows REGEDIT as follows.
• Go to regedit
• Add new parameter / value in below path:

• 160M WiFi client cannot connect to ONT in the case of the ONT working under power
saving mode.
• 160 MHz WiFi client cannot connect to ONT when ONT operates in power saving mode.
160 MHz requires four chains, power saving mode will use one chain. ONT runs normally,
however ONT operating channel will drop from 160MHz when power
save mode is enabled, which is common action in 802.11 standard. To work around this
limitation, do not use power saving mode.
• (H.248_a) Whether the user is in a basic call, call-waiting, call-hold, call-conference, or call-
transfer, the voice related TEL/POTS LED behavior is the same when the user goes off-
hook. The maximum number of supported LED behaviors in the LED configuration file for
these devices is 2.
• 5G WIFI TxBF power gain is approximately 3dBm when TxBF function is enabled.
• The following considerations apply for TR-069 management of parental control with respect
to permanent URL filtering (G-240W-C):
• URL filter searches for a specific URL address; either by IP address or domain name. To
have parental controls filter URL for a domain as well as for its resolved IP address, two
entries must be added. Example:
http://www.google.com
http://216.58.212.228
• If URL filter is set to 'allow' type and has no filter entry, it only blocks all http (80) port
packets. If any other port needs to be blocked, configure a non-existent URL with the new
port, such as:
http://www.xxxx.com:<port>
• At a high GRE traffic rate, slowness is observed in the ONT web GUI response as GRE
packets are handled in software runner which use CPU cycles. However, once GRE traffic
rate returns to normal, the web GUI response recovers immediately.
• TR-069 config file download limitations:

Edition 01 3FE-47658-KAAA-FMZZA | 20
Customer Release Notes Application notes

• You cannot download configuration file from OMCI/OLT and TR069/ACS (mixed sources),
you can only choose one of these methods and you cannot change the method for
subsequent downloads for the same ONT.
• You must use the configuration file supported by Nokia; You cannot change the file name or
modify the file content.
• On G-240W-C, failure to print on connected USB printer was noted, the issue was traced
down to the fact that windows does not share the authentication information to AONT for
the print job request, so customer is recommended to please check any security update
made in Windows PC.
For Apple Mac USB Printer sharing is working fine.

2.3.4 G-240W-E considerations and limitations

• URL filtering for HTTPS is not supported in this release. The URL is encrypted when using
HTTPS.
• Tx Beamforming is not enabled on EU variant board.
• Ethernet backhaul through switch is not supported.
• Fast roaming via 802.11r is not supported.
• A specific migration path (software upgrade and OPID XML installation) is necessary for
some customers installing G-240W-E in North America. For more information, contact your
Nokia support representative.
• The user is recommended to use Ctrl+F5 after logging into Web GUI for the first time after
SW upgrade. This action forces the clearing of the Web GUI cache from the previous
software version
• The Gateway 3 has the capability to validate an ACS for authenticity by requesting its
SSL/TLS certificate. This feature is provisionable and can be enabled/disabled. When the
feature is enabled, the gateway is able to verify certificates from the following CAs:
• DigiCert
• Go Daddy
• Verisign
• Comodo, etc.
The full list of CAs that are supported is available at https://curl.haxx.se/ca/cacert-2018-10-
17.pem.

2.3.5 G-240W-G considerations and limitations

• It is not supported to downgrade from this release to R06.01.01 with mesh function
enabled. To downgrade to R06.01.01 release software, disable the mesh function first.

Application notes Customer Release Notes

2.3.6 G-240W-H considerations and limitations

• If the WAN is configured with the wrong DNS IP, RGTroubleshooting DNS response test
takes more time to complete. Due to this, switching from RGTroubleshooting page to some
other web page is a bit slow.

2.3.7 XS-020X-A, XS-240W-A, and XS-250WX-A considerations and limitations

• XS-250WX-A: IP Address 192.168.2.x is reserved by RG ONT for internal use and thus the
operator is not allowed to use 192.168.2.x for the LAN subnets.
• ONT can only configure 8 T-CONTs due to a chipset limitation. It is possible to configure
more than 8, but only the first 8 will be configured into hardware and no alarm will occur.
• XS-250WX-A 2.4 and 5G client cannot connect AP via Enterprise security through
secondary server because WiFi AP does not support backup RADIUS server. WiFi
Authentication mode has OPEN, WPA2, WPA/WPA2-PSK and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise.
WPA/WPA2-Enterprise has primary RADIUS server and secondary RADIUS server. The
secondary radius server is only used if the primary radius server is down. This issue
impacts station authentication if the primary radius server is down.
• Interoperability issue between Nokia OLT and 10G ONT in R05.06.00.
The SoC ONU fragments the packets throughout the entire bursts, the number of fragmented
packets is bigger than the OLT reassembly capability. This continuous fragmentation
causes an overload in the reassembly memory on the OLT side, which causes the packets
to drop.
With the SoC workaround reducing a number of fragments for R05.06.00 ONT, packets will be
lost after running for than 10 hours particularly for smaller size (e.g 74 bytes) of packets in
the upstream
• Due to an SoC limitation, the 1G UNI port LAN LED is not lit, even with PC is connected to
ONT LAN port. This will be address in the next SoC revision.
• Due to an SoC limitation, the ONT cannot forward packets bigger than 2100 bytes.
• Downstream traffic will be blocked when ONT setting n:mp is applied. Do not use n:mp
configuration
• The LED of 10G UNI is abnormal during ONU reboot. During ONU reboot, the 10G UNI
LED will be on 1 to 3 seconds and then off.
• These ONTs support H.248 only for the North American Region, and only via the legacy
OMCIv1 provisioning method.
• Due to an SoC limitation, the 10G PON ONTs that support jumbo frames cannot forward
packets bigger than 9200 bytes when the 1G UNI port is set to 100M mode.
• When multiple UNI ports are in the same bandwidth profile and in ONT sharing mode,
DSCP-to-pbit mapping function is not supported.
• Do not change the operator ID. Changing the operator ID may cause the ONT to become
inaccessible via web GUI. If changing the ID is necessary, please contact your Nokia
support representative for migration steps.

2.3.9 XS-110G-A considerations and limitations

• Downstream remote QoS is abnormal when downstream queue is enabled on OLT and
downstream remote queue number is set to 4 or multi OTO VLANs are configured.

• For ping with domain name, if primary DNS server is not reachable, ONT does not contact
secondary DNS server to resolve domain name.
• You cannot use URL filtering for HTTPS. The URL is encrypted when using HTTPS.
• The result of Speed Test from web is not correct. When you perform a speed test from a
LAN PC, it can reach 100Mbps or more based on the bandwidth setting at the OLT. If you
perform a Speed Test from the web, the result is always less than 100Mbps. The reason is
that when you perform a speed test from the LAN, the traffic is forwarded by hardware, so
the result depends upon the bandwidth; when you perform a speed test from the web, the
result depends upon the CPU capability and CPU load as it must be forwarded by CPU.
• P-bit translation for multicast in 1:N mode is not supported.
• When the bandwidth profile is changed, the throughput will not immediately adapt to the
new setting during a short transition time.
• TR-069 config file download limitations:
• You cannot download configuration file from OMCI/OLT and TR069/ACS (mixed sources),
you can only choose one of these methods and you cannot change the method for

Customer Release Notes Application notes

2.4.5 G-2425G-B considerations and limitations

• In case of multiple internet WAN, default Internet WAN will be used for communication
between USP agent and Controller. When the default WAN goes down, retry will be
performed on the next available WAN on a periodic interval basis. The connection between
USP agent and controller will be restored using the next available internet WAN.Hence it is
recommended to have at-least one internet WAN available in ONT
• When the MQTT client that is used as transport protocol between USP agent and controller is
disabled from controller, no MQTT DISCONNECT is sent from the usp agent. It is
recommended to take care of releasing the resources used for communication by the
controller that triggered the MQTT disable request
• No SET_RESP will be sent from USP agent when
Device.LocalAgent.Controller.{i}.MTP.{i}.Enable or Device.LocalAgent.MTP.Enable is
disabled from the controller. To tear-down the communication between controller and usp
agent, it is recommended to set Device.MQTT.Client.{i}.Enable= false
• No ValueChange notification will be sent to controller when the primary controller is disabled
by setting Device.LocalAgent.Controller.{i}.Enable to false.
• The Onboard event should be sent from ONT console (SSH / Telnet) to sync the ONT with
HDM or any other controller which mandates Onboarding flow.

2.4.6 G-1425G-A considerations and limitations

IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet is not supported in this release.

• G-1425G-A use new TR143 speed test solution, there are some limitations for the solution.
• Only support 4 TCP Connections.
• Not support DSCP and Pbit Remark for TR143 speed test traffic.
• G-1425G-A uses Intel SLIC solution, when voice post ON-HOOK, there is noise about -
40dbm.
• G-1425G-A board uses CIBB12 SLIC mode and has the following limitations:
• G-1425G-A does not support V.18A MARK, Baudot (1400Hz single tone) detection.

Application notes Customer Release Notes

 Interoperation with non-Nokia OLT: service would be impacted during configurations

change but recovered after reconfiguration done. For example, when customer
shutdown ont-ua port (voice service) and then no shutdown ont-ua port in any non-Nokia
OLT, all configured data flow rules will be deleted and re-configured.
 All the provisioned data flows would experience traffic interrupting and recover after re-
configuration done.
 This limitation is also applicable to other similar operations, e.g., new VLAN
configurations, voice service configurations.
 This case is tracked by Nokia internal ticket BBDPROD-27321.

2.6 Voice (Megaco/H.248) considerations and limitations

 The following voice features are not supported:
 Six-way calling
 Suppress ringing, dialtone timeout to zero, and direct connect URI
 Configurable RTP local port number (fixed value is used)
 Enable_info_based_dmtf provisioning parameter
 Megaco/H.248 is supported only for the XS-250X-A ONT for North American
(ANSI) standards. It is not supported for XS-020X-A ,XS-250WX-A ONTs.

2.7 Provisioning recommendations

2.7.1 POTS voice support for Megaco

 To ensure high quality delivery of Megaco-based VoIP services, Nokia recommends

the following values for the bandwidth profile for each POTS line:
 Committed Information Rate (CIR) = 150 Kb/s
 Excess Information Rate (EIR) = 150 Kb/s
 Delay Tolerance (DT) = 8.
 For multiple POTS lines providing Megaco-based VoIP service, use a multiple of the
recommended per-line EIR and CIR values. For example, with 4 POTS lines, use
CIR=600 Kb/s, EIR=600 Kb/s, and DT=8.

2.7.2 POTS voice support for SIP

 To ensure high quality delivery of SIP-based VoIP services in SIP Mode 2 (thick
client), Nokia recommends the following values for the bandwidth profile for each
POTS line:
 Committed Information Rate (CIR) = 250 Kb/s
 Access Information Rate (CIR) = 250 Kb/s
 Excess Information Rate (EIR) = 250 Kb/s

2.8 XML Files / Country adaptation configuration files

 Specific country adaptations for the H.248 POTS interface are contained in
embedded configuration files, listed in Table 5. During provisioning, the filenames
are used to configure the ONT for the correct application. SIP XML files that may be
downloaded to the ONT are made available via Nokia technical support staff and
are not included in the ONT software load.
 The introduction of new ONT/MDU types may require the use of new or different
XML files.

3.3 Voice interoperability

The following tables list the H.248 gateway and softswitches and the SIP softswitches and
application servers that have been tested in recent Nokia GPON releases. Not all GPON ONTs
and MDUs have been tested for voice compatibility, but a representative subset is tested based
on common voice clients that are used on various Nokia products. New products are included in
the test configuration by default. Note also that there may be features that are country- or
customer-specific that may need additional development and testing. Table lists the latest
softswitch interoperability testing for Megaco/H.248 ONTs and MDUs.
