Assignment Overview:

In this assignment, students will explore and demonstrate proficiency in utilizing Microsoft
Office Suite tools, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel, to
analyze economic data, present findings, and create informative reports. The assignment is
designed to enhance students' practical skills in data management, analysis, and communication
within the context of economics.

Objectives:

1. Microsoft Word (20 points):

 Create a comprehensive economic report on a chosen topic (e.g., inflation,


unemployment, GDP) using Microsoft Word.

 Utilize appropriate formatting, styles, and sections to organize and present the
report effectively.

 Incorporate tables and charts generated in Excel into the Word document.

 Apply referencing and citation styles for any external data or sources used.

2. Microsoft Excel (30 points):

 Collect relevant economic data using Excel and create appropriate tables and
charts.

 Perform basic data analysis, such as calculating averages, growth rates, or


percentage changes.

 Use Excel functions and formulas to demonstrate understanding of economic


concepts (e.g., calculating GDP, inflation rates).

 Create a visually appealing and informative dashboard that summarizes key


economic indicators.

3. Microsoft PowerPoint (20 points):

 Develop a professional and engaging presentation summarizing the economic


report created in Microsoft Word.
 Utilize PowerPoint features to enhance the presentation, such as animations,
transitions, and speaker notes.

 Include visual aids like charts and graphs from Excel to support key points.

 Ensure a clear and logical flow of information in the presentation.

4. Integration and Interconnectivity (15 points):

 Demonstrate the ability to link Excel data directly into the Word document for
seamless updates.

 Embed relevant charts and graphs from Excel into the PowerPoint presentation.

 Ensure consistency in data and formatting across all three Microsoft Office
applications.

5. Critical Analysis and Reflection (15 points):

 Provide a reflective commentary on the advantages and challenges of using


Microsoft Office Suite tools in economic analysis.

 Discuss how the integration of these tools enhances or limits the presentation and
analysis of economic data.

 Reflect on the role of technology in economic research and reporting.

Submission Guidelines:

 Submission Format: One document in Microsoft Word (.docx) and one PowerPoint
presentation (.pptx).

 Submission Deadline: Friday 16th February, 2024

 Submission Method: Submit via the email chande.kasita@gmail.com in a single folder


for each group where by on CRs will collect and send to course instructor.

Assessment Criteria:

The assignment will be assessed based on the following criteria:

 Content (40 points):

 Relevance and accuracy of economic analysis.

 Application of economic concepts and principles.

 Clarity and coherence in the presentation of findings.


 Technical Proficiency (30 points):

 Effective use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint features.

 Integration of data across applications.

 Attention to detail in formatting and presentation.

 Critical Analysis (15 points):

 Thoughtful reflection on the advantages and challenges of using Microsoft Office


Suite in economic analysis.

 Insightful discussion on the role of technology in economic research.

 Creativity and Presentation (15 points):

 Visual appeal and professionalism in the Word document and PowerPoint


presentation.

 Creativity in data representation and visualization.
