The History Of D-Day
What do you think of when you hear D Day? Most people would think of Omaha
beach. The slaughter of men pouring onto the beach. But most people don t think
about the fact is without the paratroopers, who were dropped a few hours before. Six
paratrooper regiments. Each regiment consisted of 13,000 men, 800 planes, and a
British airfield. Without these paratroopers, D Day wouldn t have succeeded. D Day
was the day the allies started the journey to the end the war in Europe. The Operation
was called, Operation Overlord. 156,000 men were to be used in storming the beaches
of Normandy. 11,590 planes and 6,939 boats were used in the amphibious landing known
as Operation Neptune. Britain and Canadian forces had three beaches to take. Code

After the call, the 82nd Airborne was split up and deployed in a multitude of places. A
part of it was deployed in Italy in an attempt to push back Mussolini s troops while
others were deployed in Africa to Hunt down Nazi General Erwin Rommel, also
known as the Desert Fox. Their ferocious attitude and bravery carried on in World War
II, and in January of 1944, the 504th Infantry Regiment, which was part of the 82nd
Airborne Division was nicknamed The Devils in Baggy Pants by non other than the
Germans, they were fighting against in Anzio, and the nicknames were first read in
one of the German Officer s diary, and while the 504th was fighting its way in Anzio,
the remainder of the 82nd Airborne Divisions was getting ready to take part in one of
the most dangerous and historical operations launched in WWII Europe, Operation
Overlord. While preparing for the operation, the division reorganized, and before the
ground troops and artillery units were even assembled, they ran extensive scouting
missions by glider over the whole French coastline. During the 3 days of constant
assault over the German fortifications, the 82nd Airborne managed to gain some
ground and gain a foothold. However, after a total of 33 days of battle and bloody
combat, they were called to regroup back in England. A total of 5,245 paratroopers of the
Compare The Red Scare And The Red Scare
The Crucible VS. The Red Scare The Red Scare and The Salem Witch Trials were both
events that left a mark in American history. The Red Scare began in 1917 and took
place across the United States. The Red Scare was known as the widespread
promotion of anti communism. The Salem Witch Trials began in 1692 and took place
in Salem, Massachusetts. The Salem Witch Trials were various court hearings and
prosecutions of people in Salem accused of Witchcraft. Arthur Miller wrote The
Crucible, a play about The Salem Witch Trials, to send a message to Senator Joseph
McCarthy, the face of The Red Scare. Even though both of these events took place at
completely different times their connection remains profound. The Crucible and The
Red Scare have various similarities and allegories that make both of these events
connect despite the gap of time. Arthur Miller, wrote The Crucible with the intention of
comparing The Red Scare to The Salem Witch Trials. One of the many similarities
between The Red Scare and The Salem Witch Trials is the way both events started.
Both events were started by people making false accusations. During The Red Scare
people were accused of being communists. At one of his speeches in Wheeling, West
Virginia, in 1950, Senator Joseph McCarthy claimed to hold in my hand a list of
individuals who were both serving in government and participating in the communist
party. (Brinkley2) Thanks to McCarthy s popular style, people never questioned his
supposed list. During
Alper Bozkurt Biography
You might think of bugs as pests, if you bother to think about them at all. Alper Bozkurt
s research will quickly set you straight: to him, they re engineering wonders, deft flying
and crawling machines, reproducing in nature more reliably than widgets in a factory.
Bozkurt s interest isn t just academic. By the time he s through, in ten years or so, an
army of cockroaches and moths just might save your life.

Bozkurt, an electrical engineer at the University of North Carolina, is the first of a kind:
he tinkers with bugs. Much of the circuitry he works with already exists networks of
neurons, honed by years of evolution with small electronic devices added on.

He envisions a future in which biobots bugs, with wires that protrude into ... Show more

Take a second to move or maybe flap your arms. To accomplish that motion, your brain
had to send an electric signal down the string of neurons in your spine and to the
muscles in your shoulders and elbows, telling them to contract and then let go. In the
moth, these brain to muscle signals flap its wings, and tilt its body left or right. If
Bozkurt could send the right signals to the moth s neck, via the perfectly fused wires, he
could theoretically drive the insect.

After attaching a small helium balloon to the bugs to balance out the electronics weight,
Bozkurt and Amit Lal, his PhD advisor at Cornell, discovered they really could fly the
moth, as though its own brain were sending it signals on how to move.

We made it draw circles [in the air], says Bozkurt. Then we were able to bring the insect
back down, all by sending the right pulses. There s no struggle the hack to the moth s
motions is
