Cords consist of continuous PETN explosive core enclosed in plastic tapes, fibres, and a plastic
sleeve.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION / PROPERTIES

Melting point (C) : 140 (PETN)

Explosion Temp (C) : 170 – 205 (PETN)

Appearance, Odour : Flexible cord with a white powder core. Outer coverings of
various materials, finished and colors, Odorless.

Solubility : Insoluble in water

Reactivity : Explosive material. Detonating can occur from heavy impact.

HEALTH EFFECTS

ACUTE EFFECTS

No adverse health effects expected if the product is handled in accordance with this Safety Data
Sheet and the product lable. Symptoms may arise if the product is mishandled are:

SW ALLOWED : Swallowing the PETN core may result in nausea, vomiting and mild gastric irritating

EYE : Exposure to the PETN core may result in mild eye irritation. The core can cause physical
irritation to the eyes.

SKIN : The PETN core may be a milk skin sensitiser. The packaged Material is not irritating to skin.

INHALED ​
: Not an inhalation hazard..

CHRONIC EFFECTS ​ : Long term exposure to lead has resulted in kidney damage, anaemia and
central nervous system and peripheral nervous system damage.

FIRST­AID

Following exposure to PETN core.

SW ALLOWED : Rinse mouth with water. Give plenty of water to drink. If vomiting occurs give further
water. Seek medical advice

EYE : Irrigate with copious quantities of water for 15 minutes. In all cases of eye contamination it is a
sensible precaution to seek medical advice

SKIN : Wash contaminated skin with plenty of soap and water. If irritation occurs, seek medical
advice

ADVICE TO DOCTOR : Treat symptomatically. Where ingestion of the PETN core has occurred
blood pressure may be lowered due to vasodilatory effects of the material. Treat as for exposure to
nitrates.

PRECAUTIONS FOR USE

ENGINEERING CONTOLS : Natural ventilation should be adequate under normal use conditions.

PERSONAL PROTECTION : Avoid eye contact and repeated or prolonged skin contact with the
PETN core. Were overalls, safety glasses and impervious gloves. Always wash hands before
smoking, eating,drinking or using the toilet.

SAFE HANDLING INFORMATION

STORAGE AND TRANSPORT


UN NO:0065 Classified as a 1.1D (Explosive). Dangerous substance for the purpose of transport.
Refer to relevant regulations for storage and transport requirements.
Explosives should not normally be carried on the same vehicle with dangerous goods of other
classes. Store cases in a well ventilation clean, dry magazine suitably licenced for IMCO Class 1.1D
Explosives. Protect ends of cords from contact with moisture or oil. Handle with care

SPILLS ​: Shut off all possible sources of ignition. Collect and seal in labelled packages for disposal.
Handle with care.

DISPOSAL ​ : Controlled incineration as for explosives. Large quantities to be disposed off in


conjunction with the relevant State Dangerous Goods Branch & Solar Industries India Ltd.

FIRE / EXPLOSION HAZARDS : High Explosives. Severe explosion hazard when exposed to heat. In
case of small fire where actual exposure is not burning. Carefully removes much explosive as
possible to a safe distance. However, if explosive is burning evacuate area immediately. Do Not fight
fire. Under confined conditions toxic fume of oxides of nitrogen and Carbon monoxide will be present.
