a. It is said that in order to gain knowledge of something we need to gather information.

So why do man’s major problem demand research? Because research require systematic
investigation and analysis in order to understand their causes, effects and potential
solutions. Through research, we gain a deeper understanding of the problem itself, as
well as encouraging to explore new avenues. It also helps in predicting and preventing
future challenges by analysing trends and patterns.
2. Explain briefly the meaning of nursing research.
a. Research in nursing is the systematic investigation and study of various aspects of
nursing care, nursing practice, and patient outcomes. This type of research seeks to
generate new knowledge, enhance evidence-based practice, and improve patient care
quality. Nursing research is vital to the advancement of the nursing profession. By
conducting research, nurses are able to identify knowledge gaps and devise
interventions or strategies to fill them.
3. Explain the interrelationship of nursing theory, practice, and research.
a. In the field of nursing, research, theory, and practice are interconnected and play a
crucial role in advancing healthcare. Nursing research involves systematically
investigating nursing issues seeking to generate new knowledge and evidence to
improve patient outcomes and healthcare practices. Nursing research helps to expand
our understanding of healthcare phenomena, identify gaps in learning, and develop
evidence-based interventions. By conducting rigorous research studies, nurses
contribute to the growth of nursing knowledge and inform clinical decision-making.
Nursing theory is the foundation and framework for nursing practice and research.
Nursing theory provides the knowledge and principles that inform and direct nursing
practice. Nurses utilize theoretical knowledge to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate
patient care.
In addition, they utilize their knowledge of nursing theory to analyze and interpret
research findings, providing the foundation for evidence-based practice. One nursing
theory that emphasizes the importance of the nurse-patient relationship is Jean
Watson's "Theory of Transpersonal Caring." In this theory, nurses are expected to
establish a therapeutic relationship with patients beyond just administering medical
treatments. This involves a nurse listening to patients' concerns, validating their
emotions, and providing comfort and support. Another theory, Dorothea Orem's self-
care theory, can be applied when a patient is discharged after surgery. The nurse can
use Orem's theory to assess the patient's ability to perform self-care activities and
provide appropriate education and resources to promote independence in self-care. In
contrast, nursing practice is applying nursing theory to providing patient care. Nursing
research, theory, and practice have a symbiotic relationship. Research in nursing informs
and shapes nursing theory, whereas nursing theory guides and directs nursing practice.
4. Describe the research process
 There are several steps involved in the research process to conduct a comprehensive and
reliable study. Determining and defining the research problem is an essential first step. This
initial step lays the groundwork for the research procedure by understanding what must be
investigated. After identifying the research question, the next step is to conduct a thorough
literature review. A literature review is essential because it enables researchers to determine
what prior knowledge exists, what knowledge gaps exist, and what research methods and
approaches have been used in previous studies. The next step is hypothesis formulation. It aids
the researcher in asking underlying questions regarding the potential outcomes of the study.
After developing hypotheses, the researcher selects an appropriate research design for the
study. Surveys or interviews are then used to collect data, followed by statistical analysis and,
finally, interpretation of the data.
5. Discuss comprehensively the importance or uses of research to:
a. Personal Life
b. Chosen Profession as a nurse
Research is crucial in one's personal life and the nursing profession. In our personal life, research equips
individuals with the knowledge and data necessary to make informed decisions about various aspects of
their lives. Whether determining the best healthcare options for oneself and one's family, making
financial decisions, or selecting the most efficient means to achieve one's personal goals, research is the
basis for making informed decisions. Individuals can collect evidence-based information, analyze it
critically, and apply it to their circumstances. For instance, if I were going through a severe medical
condition, I would consider various treatments suited for my situation; conducting research can provide
information about the efficacy, potential side effects, and success rates of multiple treatments. Patients
in the same condition can also make a well-informed decision regarding the treatment option that best
meets their unique needs and preferences.
In the chosen nursing profession, research is of equal significance. Research in nursing helps to advance
the field by generating new knowledge, enhancing patient care outcomes, and developing practice
guidelines based on empirical evidence. It enables nurses to stay abreast of the latest developments in
healthcare and equips them with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide high-quality care.
Additionally, nursing research assists nurses in identifying best practices and interventions that enhance
patient outcomes. For instance, research on infection control measures can aid nurses in establishing
effective strategies that stop the spread of infectious diseases in healthcare settings. Research not only
contributes to the growth and development of the nursing profession as a whole but also the growth
and development of individual nurses. By conducting research, nurses can broaden their knowledge
base, cultivate critical thinking skills, and improve their problem-solving abilities. Moreover, nursing
research enables nurses to actively contribute to advancing their profession.
