My name is Ayu Manurung, and I'm currently pursuing my degree in Informatics at Del Institute of Technology
in Toba, Indonesia. I have focused my studies on software development and project management, and I am proficient
in programming languages such as Java, PHP, JavaScript, SQL, and Python. My passion lies in machine learning,
project management, and testing, and I am committed to ensuring the successful completion of tasks and projects.
Continuously curious and eager to learn, I actively seek opportunities to develop my skills in the dynamic world of
technology.
I am currently enrolled in Bangkit Academy, led by industry giants like Google, Tokopedia, Gojek, & Traveloka,
where I am delving into the intricate world of machine learning. Complementing my academic pursuits, I have served
as a Gopay Student Ambassador and participated in the ICStar Hackathon 2023, showcasing my problem-solving
abilities and innovative mindset in developing software solutions. Beyond academia, I actively engage in various
organizational roles, contributing significantly to my personal and professional growth. With diverse project
experiences, ranging from full-stack development to system analysis and testing, I aspire to carve a promising career
path in the tech industry as a Software Engineer, System Analyst, or QA Engineer
⚫ Why do you want to apply for the joint cultivation program and choose the intended research direction?
I am compelled to apply for the Innovation Class program at the Beijing Genomics Institute (BGI) in China due
to its reputation as a pioneering institution in genomic research and its commitment to fostering innovation in the
field. The opportunity to be part of the 1 percent global population genome project (J24050) is particularly exciting
for me because of its potential to significantly advance our understanding of human genetics and its implications for
healthcare and scientific discovery on a global scale.
Choosing to pursue research in the area of SOAPnuke, a MapReduce acceleration-supported software for
integrated quality control and preprocessing of high-throughput sequencing data, aligns perfectly with my academic
and professional interests. High-throughput sequencing technologies have revolutionized genomics research, but
data quality control and preprocessing remain critical challenges in genomic analysis. By working on SOAPnuke
under the supervision of Yan Li, I aim to contribute to the development of innovative solutions that streamline the
data processing pipeline, improve accuracy, and enhance the efficiency of genomic analysis workflows.
Yan Li's expertise and leadership in genomics research make her an ideal supervisor for this project. I am eager
to learn from her wealth of experience and guidance as I delve into the intricacies of developing and optimizing
software solutions for genomic data analysis. Moreover, being part of the Innovation Class program at BGI offers a
unique opportunity to collaborate with leading experts in the field, access state-of-the-art resources and
infrastructure, and engage in interdisciplinary discussions and knowledge exchange.
In summary, my decision to apply for the joint cultivation program and choose the intended research direction
stems from my passion for genomics, my interest in addressing critical challenges in genomic data analysis, and my
desire to contribute to transformative research initiatives under the mentorship of esteemed professionals like Yan Li
at BGI. I am confident that this program will not only broaden my knowledge and skills but also enable me to make
meaningful contributions to the field of genomics and its applications in healthcare and beyond.
