TASK 1: MIL

Find three examples of fake news in the Philippines and respond to the following questions:

1. Source Evaluation:

 Who published or shared this news article? Is it a well-known and reputable news
organization?

 Does the website domain look legitimate? Are there any signs of a suspicious or
misleading URL?

 Are there any author credentials provided? Can you verify the author's expertise or
qualifications on the subject?

2. Content Analysis:

 Does the headline seem sensationalized or exaggerated? Does it use emotional language
to evoke a strong reaction?

 Are there any spelling or grammatical errors in the article? Does it seem hastily written
or poorly researched?

 Does the article provide credible sources or evidence to support its claims? Are these
sources verifiable and from reputable organizations?

3. Fact-Checking:

 Can you find the same information reported by other credible news sources? Cross-
check the information to ensure its accuracy.

 Are there any fact-checking websites or tools you can use to verify the claims made in
the article? Look for consensus among multiple fact-checkers.

 Are there any quotes or statements taken out of context? Look for full context to
understand the complete picture.

4. Bias and Agenda:

 Does the article seem to have a particular bias or agenda? Is it promoting a specific
viewpoint or political ideology?

 Are there any advertisements or sponsored content within the article? Consider how
this might influence the information presented.

 Does the article present a balanced view of the topic, or does it only focus on one side of
the argument?

5. Critical Thinking:

 Does the news story seem too good (or bad) to be true? Use your intuition and critical
thinking skills to assess the credibility of the information.
 Are there any inconsistencies or contradictions within the article? Question anything
that doesn't seem to add up or make logical sense.

 What are the potential consequences of sharing or believing this news story? Consider
the impact of spreading misinformation on yourself and others.

6. Reflection:

 After evaluating the news article using these criteria, what is your overall assessment?
Do you believe the article is credible or fake?

 What did you learn from this exercise about identifying fake news and assessing the
credibility of online sources?

 How can you apply these critical thinking skills and fact-checking strategies in your future
consumption of news and information online?
