Double-click on the working area

To make new file:- You can define unique height and width here to work on specific kind of project

New Option from File menu
o Resolution and Color Mode for Web Images is 72 and RGB and 300 and CMYK for images that are to
be printed.
o Higher bit provide higher number of color combination.
o Above two can be changed later on too.
Layers:
Shortcut key: V
Auto Select option selects the layer of the object clicked after choosing the move tool. It can be turned off
from the bar under the menu bar.
Selection Tool: Every work will only be carried out inside the selection area of selected layer only.
When you import a layer, it will be locked and you cannot work on it.
o Safe way is to make a copy of that layer to preserve the original photo or
o Unlock the layer by double clicking on it.
File menu > Revert to remove all the editing and take it back to original imported picture.
Ctrl + D to disable/delete the selection.
Layer via copy will create a new layer with selected area in it.
The multiple tool for selection are : Marquee tool, Lasso tool and Wand tool.
o Marquee Tool:
Rectangular: Create a simple rectangle selection
o Lasso Tool: Moves freely and helps in doing complicated selection using Mouse
o Polygon Lasso Tool: Works like stitching and create points. Better than above but it is still manual
o Magnetic Lasso Tool: Works something like polygon but we just need to hover the mouse and points
are created by own. But it only helpful if there are not many colors in the picture and object area can
be easily identified. If there is a mistake, that can be corrected using Backspace or Delete key as they
will remove the previous stitch point. Press ENTER to make the selection.
o Quick Selection Tool: You already know how it work and you can alter its size using Bracket Keys.
o Magic Wand Tool: Works best if there is a plane background or single color background.
Tolerance: Used to increase or decrease the range of the tool. Value 1 means it will select only
the 1 color which is clicked . Increasing the tolerance to , let’s say, 30 means it will now select
the color clicked and 30 related colors hence increasing the range.
There are 4 options in the edit bar(under the menu bar) – New ,Add, Subtract and Intersect. These will work
on all types of selection tool and can also be work together.
o New: Every time a new selection will be made, previous one will be deleted.
o Add: New selection will not delete the previous one. Can also used to increase the area of the
previous selection.
o Subtract: Used to decrease the area from the selected area.
o Intersect: Only keep the selected area which is among the both, the new and the old selected area
Feather effect gives a curve to edges of selection and border of the selection will fade/smudge/blend with
the background. It gives a type of smoothness to the shape. Intensity depends on value given.
Transform Tool: To resize, rotate, filp, etc the picture.
Image menu > Adjustment: all the tool and options to do the color correction. Also available under the layer
panel.’
Shape Tool: Helps in creating shapes and vector objects. It cannot be worked normally and need to be rasterize.
Use Rectangle tool to do the same and hold shift while creating a rectangle to make a square.
Stroke in edit bar means border and its thickness.
Pen Tool: used to make selections, trace the outline and make shapes, etc.
A closed path made by the pen tool can be either converted to Selection, Shape or Mask from the edit bar.
They are behave like the above explained.
The path panel is near the layer panel.
To make a curve line, just hold the Mouse after clicking the second point and drag it make the formed line
curve. Two handles will appear where first/above has made the curve line and another one will make the line
curve that you will make after that.
To adjust the curves after making them, just hold the ALT key and drag the handle created.
To move a creation point, just hold CTRL key and move it.
Put the handle point on creation point to put it on ZERO and the line will be straight.
Style panel: it is used to give styles to the objects and can be accessed from view menu.
Typography: Explored on your own.
When everything is done and project is completed click on CTRL + S to open the SAVE AS window, every
project you made must be saved in the Photoshop format which is known as Master file so that whenever
you will open it again you will get all the editings you did separately like you will see all the different layers
you added and others and for display and other purposes you should save it in the required format which is
either jpg or PNG or bitmap etc.
The other option is Export where you can also save it for web too.
