General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these questions should be in the
range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these questions should be in
the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these questions should be in
the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.

the figure.

Find the power and focal length of the combination.


24. Major amount of water is selectively reabsorbed by the tubular part of nephron in humans. What are the
factors on which the amount of water reabsorbed depends ?
25. Identify the endocrine glands labelled (a) to (d) in Figure.

26. Consider a circular loop of wire lying in the plane of the table. Let the current pass through the loop
clockwise. Find the direction of the magnetic field inside and outside the loop. State the rule used.

27. What is a redox reaction? Identify the substance oxidized, oxidizing agent, substance reduced and
reducing agent: PbS + 4H2O2  PbSO4 + 4H2O
28. (a) Three solutions A, B and C have pH values 5, 8 and 10 respectively. Amongst the three which solution
has maximum hydrogen ion concentration? Classify the nature of the three solutions as acidic or basic.
(b) Two solution X and Y are tested with universal indicator. Solution X turns orange whereas solution Y
turns red. Which of the solution is a stronger acid?
29. (a) Define resistivity of a material. What is its SI unit?
(b) Two wires A and B of same length made of the same material have their V-I graph as shown. Which
of them is thicker? Give reason.

30. In the following figure, name the parts A, B, C and D.


Where do the following functions occur? (i) Production of egg (ii) Fertlization
31. The figure given below shows a schematic plan of blood circulation in humans with labels (i) to (iv).
Identify the labels and also write their functions.

32. Suggest reason for each of the following :


a. Violet colour deviates the most when white light is passed through a glass prism.
b. The sky appears dark instead of blue to an astronaut in space.
c. Stars appear to twinkle.
33. Magnetic field lines at the centre of current carrying circular loop are parallel. What does this pattern
indicates? Draw the pattern of magnetic field lines due to current carrying circular loop. State the rule
used to find the direction of magnetic field associated with current carrying conductor.

35. Where should the object be placed for obtaining the following images by a convex lens:

An object 5 cm in length is held 25 cm away from a converging lens of focal length 10 cm. Draw the ray
diagram and find the position, size and the nature of the image formed.
36. (a) Label the parts of a neuron in Figure.

(b) State the events in sequence that take place when an electrical impulse travels from a dendritic tip of a
nerve cell to another nerve cell.
SECTION E
37. Thermite reaction is one of a class of reactions known as the “thermite” process, which has been used
industrially for welding, the preparation of metals from their oxides, and the production of incendiary
devices. The process is initiated by heat, but then becomes self-sustaining. The thermite reaction is
initiated by the heat released from the mixture of potassium permanganate and glycerine.

(I) Write the equation of the reaction taking place between iron(III) oxide and aluminium.
(II) Write the state symbols in the above reaction and state the type of reaction taking place.
(III) What happens when manganese dioxide is heated with aluminium powder?
38. A typical middle class household uses several electrical appliances these days such as microwave, mixer
grinder, electrical chimney, AC, refrigerator, etc.

The power ratings of the appliances used in Ravi’s house along with the number of hours they are used daily
during the month of July is as given below:

(C) Calculate the total electrical units consumed as per table above for the month of June.
39. Pooja has green eyes while her parents and brother have black eyes. Pooja’s husband Ravi has black eyes
while his mother has green eyes and father has black eyes.
(a) On the basis of the above given information, is the green eye colour a dominant or recessive trait?
Justify your answer.
(b) What is the possible genetic makeup of Pooja’s brother’s eye colour?
(c) What is the probability that the offspring of Pooja and Ravi will have green eyes? Also, show the
inheritance of eye colour in the offspring with the help of a suitable cross.
