Exercise 1. Write the plural of the following nouns.

Chairs, stars, pencils, girls, boys, oxen, bushs, coats, trees,


benches, sketches, owners, touches, mugs, ladies, cities, armies, plays, joys,
valleys, heroes, potatoes, cargos, beefs, wives, calfs, leaves, lives, roofs.

Exercise 5. Fill in the correct form of noun.


1. The women are singing and dancing.
2. The clowns were jumping over a fire cycle.
3. I bought him six juice glasses.
4. I have two more parties to attend this month.
5. Why do leaves change colour in fall?
6. Humans usually have 32 permanent teeth.
7. There are 12 sheep and 15 cows in my uncles farm.
8. Most of the players were more than 6 feet tall.
9. I have heard many stories about her camping trips.
10. Tom has 32 pennies in his piggy bank.

Exercise 7. Paraphrase the following using the Possessive Case.


1. The pen that belongs to Jack. Jack's pen.
2 The camera that belongs to my friend. My friend's camera.
3 The books that belong to her pupils. Her pupils' books.
4. The shoes that belong to the girl. The girl's shoes.
5. The flats that belong to the workers. The workers' flat.
6. The car that belongs to this miner. This miner's car.
7 The coat that belongs to this brother. This brother's coat.
8 The watch that belongs to the teacher. The teacher's watch.

Exercise 8. Complete the sentences using the plurals of the nouns in brackets.
Example: I like oranges, apples, peaches and strawberries.
(orange/apple/peach/strawberries).
1. They’ve got five child, three girls and two boys.
2. London has many different restaurants, theatres, cinemas and discos.
3. When he fell over, he broke two of his teeth.
4. We’ve got enough plates but we need some more knives and forks.
5. On their tour of Europe, they visited seven countries in six days.
6. Cat hunt mouse.
7. Do you know those person over there?
8. These shoes are too small for me. They hurt my feet.
9. We’ve got some eggs and tomatoes, but we haven’t got any potatoes.
10.Autumn is coming. The leaves are starting to fall from trees.

Exercise 9. Choose the correct form. In one sentence either answer is possible.
Example: There were/ was a lot of people at the party.
1. Economics is an interesting subject.
2. My shorts have a hole in them.
3. Measles isn’t a very common disease in Britain.
4. My family lives in the North of England.
5. The news was quite surprising.
6. ‘Is this your scissors? ‘Yes, they it is.’
7. Two weeks isn’t a very long time, is it they?
8. My hair is quite greasy. It needs washing.

Exercise 10. Choose the correct form of the verb.


1. Gymnastics is my favourite sport.
2. The clothes you bought for me don’t fit me.
3. The police want to interview two men about the robbery last week.
4. Physics was my best subject at school.
5. Can I borrow your glasses? Mine isn’t good enough.
6. Fortunately the information wasn’t as bad as we expected.
7. Where is your company located?
8. Three days isn’t long enough for a good holiday.
9. I can’t find my binoculars. Do you know where they are?
10.Does the police know how the accident happened?
11.Do you think the people are happy with the government?
I don’t like very hot weather. Thirty degrees is too hot for me.

Exercise 11. Correct mistakes in the sentences.


1. The government wants to increase taxes.
2. Susan is wearing a black jeans.
3. Brazil is playing Italy in a football match next Wednesday.
4. I love Martin and Jill. They’re very nice friends.
5. I’m going to buy new pajamas.
6. The company has not made a decision yet.
7. It was a police standing at the corner of the street.
8. Many people give up smoking.
9. The class is working on a project together.
10.These scissors aren’t very sharp.
