The role of a teacher as a person involves having skills, values, and expertise. It draws
on the whole person of teachers who must be valued as people if they are to give their best.
They have to recognise the important moral and social purposes they want to fulfil through
their teaching.
The role and responsibility of a class teacher are to manage student behaviour in
the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. Maintain discipline in
accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school. ... Encourage and monitor the
progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies.
Teachers help the society by providing the education that improves quality of life,
therefore bringing so much to both individuals and society as a whole. Teachers increase
productivity and creativity of students and therefore, of future workers.
The teacher's role has now become one of guiding the growth of children; of directing
them as they: (a) acquire the skills necessary for gaining knowledge and understandings; (b)
develop an understanding of themselves, the world around them, and their place in that world;
(c) develop the understandings of other individuals as citizen and members of the society.
Teachers are one of the most significant members of a society. They are also one of the
most influential professionals in the community. Before a teacher becomes a professional
facilitator, motivator, initiator, and motivator, teachers are essential learner of their own nature.
● Organizational Skills
.
There are things that make a good teacher. A great teacher is warm, accessible,
enthusiastic and caring. This is the teacher to whom students know they can go with any
problems or concerns or even to share a funny story. Great teachers possess good listening
skills and take time out of their way-too-busy schedules for anyone who needs them.
It is important for teachers to be involved in the community. By doing so teachers and
their schools gain support; as residents get to know teachers and schools better, their
confidence in them improves. Teachers who become involved in the community also come to
understand it better, which helps them address the needs of their students more effectively.
Teachers are inspired to teach because they possess a passion for the subjects that
they teach, and they also have genuine care for their students. They inspire young minds to play
with ideas, think deeply about the subject matter, take on more challenging work, and even
pursue careers in a particular field of study to become successful in life. Teachers are inspired
to teach. Many teachers discover that their love of children draws them to teaching, or that their
own love of learning makes them passionate about teaching. Others are inspired by
a teacher earlier in their education who had a positive impact on them.
A teacher need also to be effective, although there are many different ways
to teach effectively, good instructors have several qualities in common. They are prepared, set
clear and fair expectations, have a positive attitude, are patient with students, and assess
their teaching on a regular basis
A teacher needs to have critical thinking. With strong critical thinking skills, teachers are
able to consider the best interests of the students while also working within their institution's
goals and standards such as :
● Communication ● Leadership
● Organization ● Teamwork
● Time management
There are also bad teachers. Five categories summarized all 72 characteristics of
“bad” teachers. These categories include: having “low motivation” (29%), being “uncaring or
disrespectful toward students” (24%), evidencing a “knowledge or skill deficit” (22%), being
“inflexible” (14%), and possessing a “difficult personality” (11%). Teaching Isn't Just a Career —
it’s a Calling
Helping students learn, grow, and develop is something that brings far more rewards
than just a paycheck. They also impact their students' lives every day, just by being present and
listening.
