    Tūī creak it to
    and fro – hinged, cracked –
    their calls sound
    from wires slung
    along the street, where
    skateboards drop percussive
    noise on asphalt
    as the day livens, warms
    with cicada talk
    and traffic, blare of horns
    and mowers lowering lawns;
    their commentary
    carries, insistent
    under all.
