(5) EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Commercial dishwashing liquids are at a high cost, each year the price

percentage increases, making it difficult for consumers to balance their budgets

and afford them. These raises concern about the finances of the people,

especially when useful products are in high demand. With, the researcher

thought of an alternative way by making alternatives. The researcher came up

with a solution, which is to make an alternative dishwashing liquid and test its

effectiveness. Zingiber zerumbet, also known as bitter ginger, is traditionally

found throughout Asia. The extract present in the inflorescence (leaf sheaths) is

rich in surfactants. Compounds such as flavonoids and terpenoids are present in

the plant and capable of making a potential dishwashing liquid. This study of

making an alternative dishwashing liquid out of Bitter ginger extract will involve

3 experiments.
(6.1) RATIONALE/SIGNIFICANCE

Commercial dishwashing soap prices have been increasing as

time goes by. Philippines Dishwashing Soap and other products are

expected to grow during the forecast period. However, the high cost

of productions and stringent regulations related to lead content are

restraining the growth of this market (6Wresearch,2023).

The Global COVID-19 pandemic was unprecedented and

staggering, with dishwashing liquids experiencing higher-than

anticipated demand across all regions compared to pre-pandemic

times (Business Research,2023). Some of the commercial

dishwashing liquids and soap contains chemical contents that may

harm both the environment and human well-being. Dishwashing

soaps, especially those marketed for professional use, can be more

expensive than household alternatives.

The researcher found a great potential of bitter ginger extract

in making an alternative dishwashing liquid. The success of this study

can be known as an alternative way in removing grease food in

plates.

(6.3) OBJECTIVES

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Bitter ginger (Zingiber

zerumbet) extract as an alternative dishwashing liquid. This answers the following

specifically:

(8) METHODOLOGY

A. Variables and Parameters

This study focuses on larvicidal ,and repellent activities of makahiya plant leaves
extract against housefly larvae.Various variables are used such as
makahiya(Mimosa pudica) leaves extract for independent variable.Mean count of
dead larvae as dependant variables.

B.Treatments

B.1 extract with alkaline water

15 ml of Makahiya leaves extract - 5 ml of alkaline water

10 ml of makahiya leaves extract - 5 ml of alkaline water

5 ml of makahiya leaves extract - 5 ml of alkaline water

C.1 The researchers use the procedures to know the effects of the

makahiya plant (mimosa pudica). The

researchers breed eggs using the DOST OL trap. While the Makahiya leaves

are collected in Ocaña Camangcamang,Carcar City Cebu,Philippines. the

researchers sort the larvae into three different samples. each of the samples will

consist of 5 of the larvae respectively. the researchers spray the varying amounts
of makahiya leaves extract on the 3 setups of the larvae. In setup1,the researchers

pour 5 ml of makahiya leaves extraction the 3 setups respectively. In setup 2, the

researchers pour 10 ml of makahiya leaves extraction the 3 setups accordingly. in

setup 3 the researchers pour 15 ml of makahiya leaves extract n the 3 setups

separately.
(9) EXPECTED OUTPUTS AND POTENTIAL IMPACTS

As housefly larvae a nuisance with association found in human activities, community,

newly build factories, piggeries, society and even houses to houses and these fly diseases are

becoming more rampant and relevant in the Philippines, we researchers, and as students have

come up to an idea and thought about the possible alternative way of executing housefly and

preventing the risk of these diseases to human beings.

Mimosa pudica typically known as Makahiya plant, has shown a

higher larvicidal potential against housefly larvae, its extract is an effective ovicidal/larvicidal

among housefly larvae. Housefly diseases such as food poisoning, dysentery, diarrhea, anthanax,

cholera, typhoid fever, conjunctivitis, salmonellosis, shigellosis, tuberculosis, posses a significant

health concerns among people and a large proportion of the human population is exposed to these

infectious diseases. This implies that makahiya leaf extract can be an effective larvicidal repellent

against housefly larvae to control the population and execute this specific species of housefly.
