Moon Fright
It was Halloween night, and the moon was full.
All over town, children were getting into costumes,
getting ready to go out trick or treating. Many of
the costumes were spooky, as many of the older children enjoyed a
good fright on Halloween. These children were glad that the moon
was full, since a full moon made Halloween seem even spookier.
The moon, on the other hand, did NOT like Halloween. He gazed
gloomily down from the sky as children began to come out of their
houses and walk around their neighborhoods. He was glad that he
was safe high up in the sky, far removed from their spooky tricks.
Every once in a while, someone would notice him and point out to
others how huge and round and magnificent he was that night. But
otherwise, thankfully, Halloween left him well enough alone.
About an hour into the festivities, the moon was just dozing off,
when he heard a disturbing sound. First there was a honk, then
another, then another. Then he was startled by the loud flutter of
wings and dark shadows rushing past him. Halloween had managed
to reach all the way up to him at last! He was so frightened that he
closed his eyes tight and hoped it would be over soon.
And it was.
The large formation of geese continued on their way, without a
single thought to the moon or any awareness of Halloween tricks
whatsoever.
