Performance Task 1.2 1

This document outlines a performance task for a 9th grade mathematics class. Students will work in groups to apply concepts of quadratic inequalities to design a photo frame given certain area restrictions. They must determine possible dimensions of a photo that fit within 100, 120, or 150 square inches, choose a dimension, and illustrate the photo and frame with measurements. Students will be evaluated on their mathematical understanding and solution, the quality of their design, and peer/self evaluation of group work. The task is due on October 10, 2023.

SY 2023 - 2024

Grade Nine Mathematics First Grading Period

Performance Task 1.2

Quadratic Equations

Date of Implementation: Oct. 5, 2023

Time Allotment:
 Oct. 5, 2023 - The guidelines and rubrics of the Performance Task are given. The
students will identify who they will be working with and will start making the
performance task.
 Oct. 10, 2023 - Deadline of the students’ outputs for the performance task.

I. Goal
To apply the concept of quadratic inequalities to real life problems.

II. Role
A photo printing owner and designer.

III. Audience
The target audience is the Math teacher and classmates.

IV. Situation
Taking high quality photos and keeping them as memorabilia has always been a
trend. Thus, photography and photo printing are continuously a profitable
business. You own a photo studio and you also customize photo frames for a
client. Your client is asking you to customize a frame which has an area that will
not exceed a given area (see the table below). You need to draw a design that
shows the dimensions of a photograph and your frame. You are expected to
consider the practical proportions, design, and accuracy based on the given
conditions regarding the size of the photograph and the frame. Choose 1 from the
three conditions. Determine at least three possible dimensions of the photo area
based on the chosen condition. Choose one of these integral dimensions and
create your design that would indicate the dimensions of the photograph and the
frame.

100 square inches 120 square inches 150 square inches

V. Product
These are the expected output of this performance tasks.
a. An explanation and/or solution of the resulting quadratic inequalities of the
chosen condition of the frame specification and the list of its possible integral
dimensions.
b. An illustration of the design of the photograph and the frame with its
dimensions in inches. (You may use any computer application or you may
draw it yourself.)
c. Write the output in a long-sized bond paper.
d. Each member must accomplish the Peer and Self Rating. He/She will rate
his/her contribution in this Performance Task and that of his/her partner.
