Drifter Circuits-Standard and Reverse Percussion

Pumps #1and #2 provide hydraulic fluid to supply the drifter

percussion function. These pumps in tandem deliver 120 Liters/min.
or 31 GPM. Fluid from these pumps passes through the right and
left-hand tram valves respectively prior to supplying the percussion
valve. Flow from pumps #1 and #2 are combined at the drifter valve.
It is important to remember that 8 Liters/min. or 2 GPM is diverted to
the slow feed circuit during drilling. The slow feed fluid is taken from
the #1 pump circuit. This means that 112 Liters/min. or 29 GPM is
available for percussion. Relief valve #6 limits percussion pressure to
150 kg/cm2 or 2130 PSI.

The Super Rotation circuit diverts fluid (apx. 20 liters or 5 ¼ GPM)

from the #2 pump circuit into the rotation circuit when it is activated.
Drifter pressure at this time will be reduced to 125 to 130 kg/cm2 or
1775 to 1850 PSI.

ECM 470 units may be equipped with the optional Reverse

Percussion device. In this case, a solenoid valve that is energized
from the operator’s cab, directs fluid from pump #2 into the reverse
percussion device. The pressure utilized in the reverse percussion
device is the same as drifter percussion pressure.

Adjustments to Drifter Circuit:

Other than the accumulators on the drifter, the only adjustment

required to the drifter circuit is to relief valves #1, #2 and #6. These
adjustments are described in Chapter 2, page 4 & 5 of this manual.
