1.1 Introduction
Drug abuse leads to a wide range of health problems, including
addiction, overdose, and physical and mental health issues. Long-term drug
use can damage vital organs such as the liver, heart, and brain. Additionally,
drug use increases the risk of contracting infectious diseases such as HIV/AIDS
and hepatitis through needle sharing. The drugs are one of the common
problem that the Philippines have in the past few decades and until in the
present era. The victims is commonly youths, student, and the people who live
in the poverty rate. : Drug addiction often leads to criminal activities as
individuals resort to theft, robbery, and drug trafficking to support their
addiction. These illicit activities contribute to the overall crime rate in society
and can lead to violence and instability in communities. . Additionally, drug
abuse often results in decreased work productivity, lost wages, and increased
welfare dependency. Substance abuse affects not only the individual but also
their family and social relationships.

Drug addiction often leads to strained relationships, neglect of family

responsibilities, and increased domestic violence. Children growing up in
households with drug abuse are more likely to face neglect, abuse, and
emotional trauma, which can have long-lasting effects on their well-being and
development. Drug abuse can have a detrimental impact on education and
employment opportunities. Students who abuse drugs often experience
academic difficulties, leading to lower graduation rates and limited career
prospects Addressing the problem of drugs requires a comprehensive
approach that includes prevention, education, treatment, and rehabilitation
programs. It also requires the involvement of healthcare professionals, law
enforcement agencies, community organizations, and government entities to
work together in addressing the complex challenges posed by drug abuse in
society.

Chemical analysis techniques, such as gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

(GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), are also
incorporated into the Drug Scanning System. These techniques enable the
separation and identification of individual components within a mixture. By
coupling them with advanced technologies, the system can accurately identify
and quantify the presence of illicit substances, even in complex samples The
drug scanning system has been extensively researched and developed by
numerous scientists and experts in the field. One notable study conducted by
Albert Ortega and colleagues in 2018, titled "Improving Drug Screening
Accuracy with Advanced Technology", highlights the significance of the drug
screening system in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of drug testing
processes (Ortega et al., 2018).

The misuse and abuse of drugs pose considerable risks to individuals,

societies, and public health systems worldwide. In recent years, there has been
a growing need to develop innovative technologies and systems that can help
address these challenges. One such technological solution is the drug scanning
system with alarming notification. This research aims to develop a drug
scanning system that can effectively identify and detect illicit drugs,
prescription medication abuse, and counterfeit drugs. The system will utilize
advanced scanning technologies, such as spectroscopy and imaging, to analyze
the chemical composition of substances and compare them against a
comprehensive database of known drugs.

By implementing this drug scanning system w several benefits can be

achieved. Firstly, it can help prevent the consumption of harmful substances,
thereby reducing the risk of adverse health effects or even fatalities. Secondly,
it can aid in identifying and apprehending drug dealers and suppliers,
contributing to the overall reduction of illicit drug trade. It can also use by the
government agencies that who is in control of drugs inside our country. Third,
the number of drugs user or addicts will be decreasing as long as the violence
that causing by the illegal drug. Furthermore, this system can also contribute
to public health surveillance efforts by collecting valuable data on drug use
patterns and trends. This information can assist in developing targeted
prevention and intervention strategies, as well as raising public awareness
about the dangers of drug abuse.
1.2 Project Context

Drug abuse and illegal drug trafficking are significant issues that have
adverse effects on individuals and society as a whole. Developing a drug
scanning system with alarming notification can help address these problems by
providing a technological solution to detect and prevent drug-related
incidents. This thesis title suggests a research study focusing on the
development of a drug scanning system that can detect the presence of
prohibited substances. Such a system could be implemented in various
settings, such as airports, seaports, border crossings, and even public events or
venues. The alarming notification aspect of the system is crucial because it
ensures immediate action can be taken when drugs are detected. This feature
could include an audible alarm, visual alerts, or even automated messages to
relevant authorities, enabling swift intervention and preventing drug
trafficking or drug abuse from occurring.
