Exhaust duct acoustic enclosure

Design Manual

1 PURPOSE

The exhaust duct acoustic enclosure is primarily used to reduce noise generated by the exhaust duct
to a level in accordance with noise level project specification. It is also used to protect staff from
exhaust duct heat radiations.

2 DESCRIPTION

2.1 Constitution

The exhaust duct enclosure is composed of :

 Structural steelworks fixed to the foundation block
 Side panels with access door
 Roof panels
 AC ventilation motor-fans redundant set (112-A-001-SAF20-AN010/112-K-167A & 112-A-
002-SAF20-AN010/112-K-267A & 112-A-001-SAF20-AN020/112-K-167B & 112-A-002-
SAF20-AN020/112-K-267B)
 Non return damper limit switches (112-A-001-SAF20-CG310/112-USL-7472 & 112-A-002-
SAF20-CG310/112-USL-7972 & 112-A-001-SAF20-CG320/112-USL-7473 & 112-A-002-
SAF20-CG320/112-USL-7973)

2.2 Structural steelworks

2.2.1 Mechanical equipment

The structural steelworks supports the roof elements and the side panels.
The vertical columns are linked in the lower part by a cross bar carrying the side panels. The
columns are linked at the top by a cross bar supporting the roof elements.
The columns are linked to civil work with the help of anchoring or bolting.

Design Manual

2.3.1 Mechanical equipment

The walls are made up of acoustic panels.

Each panel is composed of the following parts :
 an outer steel sheet
 a perforated inner steel sheet
 a material with the required acoustic absorption qualities between the outer
sheet and the inner perforated sheet.

The disassembly and reassembly of one single front panel is possible independently of roof. The
fixing system is totally accessible from inside the enclosure.

2.4 Roof

2.4.1 Mechanical equipment

It is composed of rigid, integral elements fixed onto the framework. These elements are
positioned onto the upper cross bar and form after assembly a single unit on top of exhaust
enclosure.
The fixing system is totally accessible from inside the enclosure.

Exhaust duct acoustic enclosure

Design Manual

The inlet air comes inside the enclosure from outdoor or the turbine hall throught openings in
lateral panels.
The fan in operation extracts the warm air from the enclosure. The air is then routed outside the
turbine hall.
Non return Dampers are used to avoid air recirculating (via stand-by motor fan)
2.5.2 Electrical equipment
 AC ventilation motor-fans redundant set (112-A-001-SAF20-AN010/112-K-167A & 112-A-
002-SAF20-AN010/112-K-267A & 112-A-001-SAF20-AN020/112-K-167B & 112-A-002-
SAF20-AN020/112-K-267B)
Each fan electrical motor is fed by separate power supply.

2.5.3 Instrumentation
 Non return damper limit switches (112-A-001-SAF20-CG310/112-USL-7472 & 112-A-002-
SAF20-CG310/112-USL-7972 & 112-A-001-SAF20-CG320/112-USL-7473 & 112-A-002-
SAF20-CG320/112-USL-7973)

3 FUNCTION

3.1 Steady-State operation

The lead motor-fan (112-A-001-SAF20-AN010/112-K-167A & 112-A-002-SAF20-AN010/112-K-
267A) is in operation.
The second motor-fan (112-A-001-SAF20-AN020/112-K-167B & 112-A-002-SAF20-AN020/112-
K-267B) is in standby.
Each week, change over the Motor- fan selection to equalize the operating hours.

3.2 Transient operation

Starting
The lead Motor-fan (112-A-001-SAF20-AN010/112-K-167A & 112-A-002-SAF20-
AN010/112-K-267A or 112-A-001-SAF20-AN020/112-K-167B & 112-A-002-SAF20-AN020/112-
K-267B) starts when GT Start order is given.

Shut down
The lead Motor-fan (112-A-001-SAF20-AN010/112-K-167A & 112-A-002-SAF20-
AN010/112-K-267A or 112-A-001-SAF20-AN020/112-K-167B & 112-A-002-SAF20-
AN020/112-K-267B) stops when GT Stop order is given.

3.3 Emergency
The ventilation is stopped by action of fire detection Alarm.
