The confraternity shall at all level of organization operate an internet e-mail forum to help in
the continuous spread of information and orientation of all lord.

This e-mail forum is to operate as a BAN ISLAND. The GRAND EYE shall be the Chief Moderator
of the forum and may appoint as moderators.

All PO8 member are entitle to be members of any forum in BAN, while a GALLEON MASTERS is
entitled to be in any forum within his galleon ,

Galleons and freegate are encourage to invite any lord it so wishes to their forum to boost inter
freegate or galleon friendships.

There shall also be a web site for the confraternity, which shall be operated by the GALLEON
MASTERS IN COUNCIL.

The GRAND EYE shall also appoint webmaster for the BAN Website .
Any cyber sailing lord who refuses or fails to attend freegate or galleon activity shall be
recommended for removal from the forum by his F.C or G.E

This compass may be amended by two-thrds vote of the members of the supreme BAN Council
present physically or by a written proxy at regular or special meeting of the SBC

A amendment must be introduced at a previous meeting committed to writing and sent to the
membership of the SBC no more than 30 days prior to the meeting at which they are to be vote
on.

PHILOSOPHY OF OUR CONFRATERNITY

The philosophy of our confraternity is encapsulated in numerous guiding mottos that include
the following listing.

1 No Price No Pay :- Do not look for trouble and do not pay for trouble
2 Brother Deliver Brother :- Be your brothers keeper
3 No Boras in the Woods :- No sentiments or favoritism in the affairs of the confraternity
4 Odas is Odas :- Abosolute discipline and respect to constituted anthority, both within
and outside the confraternity.
5 Blood for Blood :- he who spill blood will have his blood spilled
6 No Lagging, No Junketing :- remain active in the affairs of the confraternity
7 All hands on Deck :- A clarion call to duty

ACTIVITIES IN THE CONFRATERNITY

In addition to all the activities listed in the objectives of the confraternity , the freegate
and lord in general also organize the following periodic activities.

APPENDIX

This orientation guide is designed to help the sea masters have a uniform instruction
guidebook across the sea in training new initiates into the confraternity. This guide
should remain in the custody of the FREEGATE CAPTAIN or BIG EYE and must not be
distributed to individual lords. It is deliberately not exhaustive so as to accommodate
new rules and changes that may occur in the course of the adventure sea masters
should be able to update their various lords on any new rules that are handed down

Our traditional logo is a skull a slanting dagga on each side of the skull and a femur bone
lying horizontally below the skull.
This logo of bones is only a symbolic reminder to all humans that we are only a pack
bones that share the same color. With no ethnic racist or religion inscription of
distinction on the whole it tell us our origin warns us of the inherent dangers of
navigating this world and prepared us to ruthlessly defend and safeguard the cherish

THIS MANUSCRIPT IS AT THE INSTANCE OF THE RESPECTIVE 2015 OUTGOING GMs OF ALPHA
AND ZETA GALLEONS. IT CONTAINS A NEAR VERBATIM REPORT OF THE COMBINATION OF THE
TALKS AT THEIR ANCHOR SALLIES ON 5TH AND 12TH. DECEMBER 2015 RESPECTIVELY.

TOPIC = HISTORY OF BUCCANEERS CONFRATERNITY AND MY VISION.

Alora Sealords.

I thank the immediate past GMs of Alpha - Rugged D Killer and of Zeta - Bishop the Gambler,
for inviting and giving me the opportunity to talk on 5th December and 12th December 2015
respectively at their Anchor Sallies on a historical topic that will educate, correct, reveal and to
some extent, put to rest some misconceptions, insinuations and mis-information which either
by commission or omission had been fed to or upheld by some Lords, and also for the very first
time, I will break my silence on some other controversial issues.
l crave your indulgence to use the opportunity offered by the two (2) above mentioned GMs to
document my talk, and also to dwell on many other issues outside the specific topic of discuss.
Being an historical and chronological topic, it might be lengthy and somehow boring, but we all
stand to gain a lot from what you are about to read, it is very educating, as most Lords don't
know what Buccaneering is all about, the tenets and practices. It also contains in part
incontrovertible facts, that can only be told by the Writer, especially as it concerns the growth
and renaissance in Buccaneers Confraternity (BC) from 1978 to the birth of Buccaneers
Association of Nigeria (BAN), also from my tenure on the Bridge (HQ) as the first and the only
unelected Grand Eye (GE) of BAN (1982-85), the tenures of the two succeeding GEs (1985-1989)
which are my personal views, the tenures of other GEs todate, which is what l was told and my
honest opinion on some events, Lords and actions and finally my Vision for BAN. I
salute the ingenuity and vision of the founding fathers of the Buccaneer Confraternity, the first
Big Eye and Supreme Eye - Ricca Ricardo and Vala Lorenzo the first Stirrer.
I bring to memory, the first Lord to answer Grand Pa's call - Robo Granata, the third (3rd) Big
Eye and first Big Eye to answer Grand Pa's call - Baron Samedi, also the fourth (4th) Grand Eye,
and first Grand Eye to pass on to Grand Pa's - Zoro Sabata, the first BAN Master/Scroller to
permanently hit the deck - Desert D Serpent and the memory of other prominent Lords like
Pario Palazo, Labra Matala, Kaba Bazuka, Baka Dracula, Lanco Titano, Skuli Mensura, Jemino
Kurado, and all other Lords that l cannot mention, that have permanently gone over board,
may their rugged souls continue to rest in peace. Awumen. I extend
fraternal greetings and brodaly love to all other first generation Lords still sallying, or that wish
to come back on Deck, including the Legacy Lords.

I stand up with pride and appreciation and wave my Reg to all the Past GEs from 1989 that
painstakingly, with little knowledge, without support and direction and somehow against all
odds, weathered the storm to keep the ship flying the Jack with the skull, femur and double
daggers insignia afloat, and still sallying. I greet you all my other fellow Brodas.

This talk is divided into seven (7) sections namely:

1) The name Buccaneers. 2) Formation and Growth of

Buccaneers Confraternity from 1972 to 1977.
3) Buccaneers Confraternity from 1978 to the formation of BAN in 1982.
4) BAN teething period 1982 to 1989. 5) BAN from 1989 to Mid 2010.
6) BAN from Mid 2011 to Date. 7) My Vision for BAN.

1) THE NAME BUCCANEERS. The name Buccaneers apply to English,

Dutch and French seafaring Adventurers of the 17th century. In the previous century (16th)
such daring fighters and seamen as the Englishmen Sir Francis Drakes and Sir Richard Hawkins
had obtained wealth in Privateering operations against Spain in the Caribbean Sea and off the
coast of North America.

The most famous Buccaneer in history was an Englishman, Sir Henry Morgan, Buccaneers are
usually distinguished from Privateers, who had official Government commissions, Buccaneers
never had valid commissions and don't attack ships of their parent nation. This differentiated
and distinguished them from the Pirates who attacked ships of all nations.

At first, the Headquarters of the Buccaneers was on the little island of Tortuga (Ile de la Tortue)
off the northwestern coast of Hispaniola (now Haiti). The term Buccaneer was derived from
their practice of raiding Hispaniola and taking cattle from the Spanish plantations, they dried
the beef on grills, known in French as boucan, and sold it to ships that put in for provisions. The
Buccaneers later used Jamaica as their operating base, with Captain Morgan as their leader.

Buccaneering came to an end in the 18th century, when the Buccaneers were hired by their
respective Governments to fight as Privateers in the War of the Spanish Succession (1701 -14).
Several Buccaneers wrote exciting tales of their adventures which, subsequently, inspired
further exploration in the new world. As stated above, Buccaneering in those days was a way of
life and at the same time an adventure.

2) FORMATION AND GROWTH OF BUCCANEERS CONFRATERNITY FROM 1972 TO 1977

The Buccaneers Confraternity {BC) was founded by three (3) Gentlemen namely (Bolaji Carew,
Tunde Jawando and Kunle Adigun) who broke away from the Jolly Rogers Deck of the Pyrates
Confraternity University of Ibadan in 1972, due to perceived injustice and deviation from the
tenets and ideals of the founding fathers, which is contrary to the publicised claims of the
National Association of Seadogs (NAS) - the umbrella of the Pyrates Confraternity.
Unfortunately, not much is known/said about Kunle Adigun as a Buccaneer in oral history,
because of his said inconsistent stance.

Technically, it is correct to say that Bolaji Carew and Tunde Jawando formed, prepared the
constitution, set up the structures and registered the Buccaneers Confraternity at the
University of Ibadan in 1972 as one of Students (Social, Cultural or Political) Clubs/Associations,
with the intention of having a similar/parallel Confraternity with the Pyrates Confraternity,
devoid of the perceived wrongs/ills that made them fall out with them.

Bolaji Carew adopted Ricca Ricardo as his Deck name, and assumed the position of the first (1st)
Big Eye, while Tunde Jawando became the first (1st) Stirrer and adopted Vala Lorenzo as his
Deck name. They were the only two (2) Buccaneers in history that were not really initiated into
the Buccaneers Confraternity, but unconfirmed sources have it that Vala Lorenzo later
presented himself for initiation in 2010 or thereabout when he came back on Deck.
Mr. Balogun, Deck name - Pata Balinga, of the Nigerian Institute of Economic and Social
Research (NISER) a Federal Government parastatal affiliated to the University of Ibadan was
named and registered with the Students Affairs Office, as Buccaneers Confraternity's Staff
Adviser, from 1972 till all Confraternities were proscribed in University of Ibadan in 1985.

The parting of ways between Bolaji Carew, Tunde Jawando and the Pyrates Confraternity which
eventually led to the formation of the Buccaneers Confraternity did not go down well with the
Pyrates Confraternity, it really affected them, knowing the capabilities and endowments of
Bolaji Carew and the fear of likely strong rivalry, a virile Confraternity with similar traditional
values and tenets on the same Campus portended as opposed to the lukewarm rivalry from the
then docile Eiye Confraternity on the same Campus.
Hence, for a very long time after their departure, the Pyrate Confraternity refused to black spot
them, rather, they sent emissaries to plead and made entreaties to lure them back, when they
realised that they had lost both Bolaji Carew and Tunde Jawando, they black spotted both of
them, and the Pyrates Confraternity in its characteristic manner, resorted to unnecessary
bugging of Lords in their Scorpion publication. harassment, intimidation, physical
assault/violence and also employed other dirty and unconventional antics against members of
the newly formed Buccaneers Confraternity as a way of getting even.

But the Buccaneers also known as Sea Lords, were unperturbed, and being more matured,
determined and rugged, they weathered the storm, instead of going down or giving up, they
grew stronger and better every saga, became victorious on all fronts and it was the Pyrates
Confraternity that swallowed the bitter pill of defeat by accepting that the Buccaneers
Confraternity had come to stay and a healthy rivalry ensued. Especially as it concerns Student
Union's Executive leadership and activities, such as who becomes the Students Union President
and which Confraternity leads the Rag day carnival floats out of the University campus.
It was a well fought and earned victory for the Buccaneers, which was condensed into a victory
singsong in Yoruba, which goes thus:

Won ni ko ba je. Ko ba je. Didan lo ndan.

Won ni ko ba je, ko ba je. Didan lo ndan.
Awon oloshi tan fe mo idi te, Won ti fo loju
Buccaneers o je oye, Oba lo fun lade

In those days at Modaship, we displayed mild inter confraternity acrimony, whenever we were
in Reg or on Deck, but the reverse was the case in our individual day to day normal life, we
interacted and related as friends, we even sally together in our rooms as if we belong to the
same Confraternity.

At inception. the Buccaneers Confraternity was restricted to Modaship, before it was extended
to other institutions of higher learning, especially in the southwest and later southeast part of
the country. Each institution is referred to as a Deck and only bona fide registered students of a
particular Institution worthy and desirous of being Buccaneers are admitted, after applying in
own handwriting, then going through the rigorous Jawjaw process and finally the rugged Ini.
Only very few Lubbers get past Jawjaw level, also only few Lords can remember what happened
at their Ini, due to the heavy rumming and their half drunk state during the recital of the
ancient scroll.

Each Deck has (6) Masters and a maximum of twenty (20) Hands, each Deck Master is identified
by the colour of the cloak worn as follows:

1) Big Eye = CEO - Red 2) Stirrer = COO - Green.

3) Hauler = DISCIPLINE - Blue 4) Maker and Killer of Souls
(MKS) = PRO - Black. 5) Fast Fingers = FINANCE - Black.
6) Silly Jim = ENTERTAINMENT- Black.

The first five (5) Big Eyes of the Buccaneers Confraternity with tenure are:
1st Big Eye = Ricca Ricardo (72-73) 2nd Big Eye =Pampa Lokosa (73-74)
3rd Big Eye = Baron Samedi (74 -75) 4th Big Eye = Branco Dudu (75-76)
5th Big Eye = Captain Swine (76-77)

In those days, all Students' Associations were duly registered with the Students Affairs Office of
the respective Institution and normal Confraternity activities and interaction took place without
any major inter Confraternity conflict, fight or rancor. If there was any problem or
misunderstanding between different Confraternities members, it was usually resolved amicably
by the Confraternities leadership. The Students Union Leadership also recognised and
appreciated the importance of Confraternities on the Campus and accorded them due respect,
especially the Pyrates and the Buccaneers Confraternities at the University of Ibadan, because
of their ruggedness and fearless disposition, that they always solicit for their assistance and
support to organise and lead Students protests, rallies, demonstrations, etc.
In those days, the Buccaneers Confraternity was held in awe, yet our aims were neither
intimidating, violent nor destructive. Infact it was a pride that goes with some level of respect
when fellow Students knew that you belong to one of the two (2) major Campus
Confraternities. Furthermore, because most of the
Confraternities activities were nocturnal and the Student community did not know what they
do or capable of doing, these further instilled fear in them, that they avoided any contact with
Confraternity members and would not want to annoy or offend them. However, the high level
of understanding, maturity and tolerance displayed by the different Confraternities, the
University of Ibadan Authorities and the Student community at large was very commendable
and provided an enabling environment for peaceful coexistence.

3) BUCCANEERS CONFRATERNITY FROM 1978 TO THE FORMATION OF BAN IN 1982.

In 1975 saga, I became a proud member of this elite and enviable league of highly intelligent,
peaceful, sociable and God fearing Gentlemen (Omoluabis) called Buccaneers.
However, at the NYSC orientation Camp in Kano State in 1977, while l was serving, l
experienced something that affected my pride as a Buccaneer, changed my perception and
made me resolve to enlarge and move Buccaneers Confraternity to the next level once l
finished Youth service. We were about three hundred (300)
Corpers at the NYSC Camp in Kano in 1977, Saturday nights were reserved for social activities,
and during the first of such activities, other Confraternities members in the Camp hoisted their
jacks for Sally, the Buccaneers also decided to have a Sally, but to my utter surprise, we were
just four (4) Lords from Modaship at the Camp sallying, namely Captain Swine. Easy Chicken,
one Bayo and myself, the Pyrates Confraternity had about twenty five (25) members and the
Eiye Confraternity about (15) fifteen members from different Campuses. The four (4) of us
discussed the embarrassing and unacceptable situation and resolved to do something after our
service, about our very poor numerical strength and save future Corper Lords such
embarrassment. When I returned to Modaship after the
National Service for my Masters Degree program in 1978, As a 23year old youngman, I
approached and discussed the issue with some other Salted Lords at Ibadan, but they didn't
show much interest, most of them had the erroneous belief that Buccaneering was mere school
days fun, hence, l singularly championed, led and began the renaissance in Buccaneering and
within four (4) year, l had developed a super structure, original, better, sustainable, stronger,
and more relevant than the then structures of the other two (2) existing Confraternities
without copying them. However, early in 1978, unknown to me,
Pario Palazo of blessed memory had already floated and operating independently, Boneo Deck
at Kwara State Polytechnic, llorin, with the assistance of Lapipo Lopez a Lecturer at the newly
established University of Ilorin. The first thing l did in late
1978, was to bring sanity back to Modaship Deck, after which, l liaised with Pario Palazo and
harmonised/coordinated the activities of the two (2) Buccaneers Decks in existence as at then,
changed the Reg from the then black shirt to a monkey jacket on a white shirt with a pair of
black trouser and introduced ear clips, with these assistance of newly initiated Careless Eye and
support of Pampa Lokosa.

I embraced and integrated into the Buccaneers Confraternity, the founder - Onelegged Kujo,
leadership and members of the newly formed and now defunct Vampire Confraternity at the
University of Ibadan Twice (2ce), I staked my
Reg with Ricca Ricardo so that Buccaneers Confraternity can be where it is today, by floating
new Decks. l also formed and developed
nomenclatures/lexicons that had no similarities/bearing to those of other Confraternities and
charted a course aligned to the tenets and ideals of the founding
fathers. . . I established and
named several new Decks to meet the yearning of existing Lords, and to give the much desired
numerical strength advantage, amongst other reasons, despite continuing warnings, objections
and opposition from some Senior Lords including the Supreme Eye. Their fear was that we
would not be able to manage and control a very large number of Lords, which eventually played
out mildly.

At that time, we had no Fingas, most of us were young fresh graduates just setting out in life,
only few were employed or had good or paying jobs, but we were very united and determined,
the brotherhood bonding was so strong that you wouldn't know who owns or does what, we
made a lot of personal sacrifices in order to keep the Confraternity going and to achieve our
vision.
 I initiated and organized the first National Convaj at Modaship in 1980, with the support and
assistance of Kinky Bellecus, Careless Eye, late Kaba Bazuka, Kinky Bellecus, Careless Eye, Lanko
Titano and one ex-Lord and BAN's first Fingers Mate, Laolu Owolabi. I also organised the first
National Ini, in conjunction with Community Work, Blood Donation, visit to Motherless Babies
Home, etc. Also we had the 2nd National Convaj Jointly held at Atlanta and Benija Decks in
1981, which was marred by the fight between the Buccaneers and some members of the
Walrus Deck of the Pyrates Confraternity. I initiated and
participated along with Janta Bulala (first GM Alpha) in the first ever Buccaneers Confraternity's
Press Conference and Television Interview on NTA Channel 5 Ikeja, with the assistance of Prince
of Darkness, an Atlantan and journalist with NTA Channel 5. Ikeja. .
Later, in order to have broader/varied/wider opinion and view, l enlarged my Think-Tank group
by incorporating more old and young Lords mainly from Alpha, including the late Pario Palazo,
Joko Shushu, Nino Pelago, late Lanco Titano, Santa Spiritless, Fast Venum, Janta Bulala, Devils
Incarnate, Zulu D’Bastard, etc. I coined the
name Buccaneers Association of Nigeria (BAN) as the rallying umbrella of the Buccaneers
Confraternity, introduced a super structure very original and different from those of any of the
existing Confraternities, to avoid copying claims especially by the Pyrates Confraternity, by
creating and naming the following Offices and Groups, composition and responsibilities.
• Supreme Eye - Spiritual Head. Ricca Ricardo automatically assumed the position, which had
since being rested on his passing on. • Pieces of Eight (POE) - These
are BAN Masters or BAN Executive Officers. The first set comprised the 'creme de la creme' in
BAN, and were referred to as the Tortuga Pieces. (To the Tortuga pieces I say, the seed we
planted in 1982, is now a big tree under whose shade all Buccaneers now bask.)

The offices, functions and maiden BAN Masters are:

1. Grand Eye - CEO. = Kika Kikalo 2. Scroller - COO. = Fast Venum
3. Preacher - PRO. = Zulu D Bastard 4. Fingas Mate - Treasurer = (Laolu.
Owolabi - yellow spotted by the GE) 5. Shylock - Auditor = Nino
Pelago 6. Lascar - Welfare = Devils Incarnate
7. 1st Petty mate - Ex Officio 1 = 8. 2nd Petty mate - Ex- Officio
2 = Leo Sabata The GE as the Chief Executive Officer and
Chief Propagator of the Adventure, is also the Captain of the Ship, with absolute powers, cast in
stone as conferred on him by the unwritten constitution. Aside Grand Pa, the GE is the only
Lord that can do and undo on Deck. Infact he is Supreme on Deck, it was later after the
christening of the positions that l realised that the office of the Grand Eye as the most supreme
Lord should have been christened Supreme Eye, while the Supreme Eye's position should have
been called Grand Eye. The GE is elected into the office, while he picks his seven (7) pieces. He
sports a yellow Reg, while other BAN Masters wear the normal black Reg.
• Order of Scarlet Buccaneers, (OSB) - Deserving Salted Lords that are found worthy and have
attained the prescribed number of active sallying sagas as Salted Lords are admitted into this
Order. Which presently is the highest level attainable by a Sealord.
• Supreme Ban Council (SBC). - This Council is the highest legislative organ in BAN, it comprises
the Pieces Of Eight (POE), Galleon Masters (GMs) and Frigate Captains (FCs) and their pieces,
and OSBs members

• BAN Super Structure. I also developed BAN super

Structure, Functions, Activities, created and named the following:
Bridge - where the GE as the CEO stays with his pieces to navigate the Ship, it represents the
Headquarters' (HQ) of BAN. Galleon - it represents a
State, each is called by Greek alphabets, with four (4) Officers, viz: Pen Mate, Mascot, Purse
and Galleon Master as the head. Frigate - it represents
areas within a Galleon, each Frigate is identified by Arabic numerals, (which is no longer used)
each Frigate is headed by a Frigate Captain, with the following three (3) Officers, Scribe, Purse
and Crier as laudable later additions.

I prepared the BAN Creed (copy attached) as a written document to guide us in the running of
BAN and our day to day life, According to the Creed, a Buccaneer must believe in God as his
Creator and could practise the religion of his choice, so far the religion recognises the
supremacy of God. Please note that we are all nothing without
God, all we have achieved including our being Buccaneers or alive today is by the grace of the
almighty God. In my case, my being a rugged and fearless Buccaneer and at the same time a
Born Again Christian are but two (2) different sides of the same coin. All religions that believe in
God, preach love, that is what is in our Creed and expected of a true Buccaneer.

Please note this interesting part of my Buccaneering carrier, at Modaship I was not a Big Eye or
a Deck Master, in fact in 1975, as a new Deck hand, l was yellow spotted along with two (2)
other Lords for what I could term as voicing out our opinion on a negative practise on Deck.
No Lord or group of Lords appointed, commissioned, or elected me to do all that I started in
1978, I think it was the interest, love and passion for the Adventure, propelled by the burning
desire to take Buccaneers Confraternity to the next level from my NYSC days. I just found
myself doing them, and I enjoyed seeing them fall in place, that before l knew it, we had a very
robust structure on ground, envied by those who hitherto warned and discouraged me.
Without being elected or appointed as a Leader l was already dishing out orders to other
Salted Lords around, including those Older than me on Deck. but as providence would have it,
for no shining kobo quality I became the acclaimed father of modern day Buccaneering and as
the main Coordinator, I naturally assumed Leadership role even before BAN was eventually
formed in 1982.
The words Confraternity and Cult are now being used interchangeably, but actually they are
different. THE BUCCANEERS CONFRATERNITY IS
NOT A CULT.

A CULT IS A VERY CLOSED SECRET ASSOCIATION THAT ENGAGE IN RITUALS AMONGST OTHER
THINGS. HENCE, NATURALLY IT MUST HAVE AN ALTAR TO OFFER SACRIFICE.
this does not apply to a Confraternity. Buccaneers Confraternity is not
a Cult or an Occult group. it is an Adventure and a way of life of like minded individuals from
different backgrounds and spheres of life.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. There is a verse in the Holy Bible that
says: - "My people perish for lack of knowledge" Hosea 4:6.
As Buccaneers, we need not continue to bask in the dark with ignorance, we need to seek for
knowledge in our everyday life and know more if not everything about the Buccaneers
Adventure, Tradition, Values and Ethics. Since we profess not to be and indeed we are not a
Cult, yet most of us don't know the basic/simple things about the Confraternity that ordinarily
we should know, which is presently mystified by the few that know just a little to bamboozle
the majority. To be relevant, think, relate, act, operate and feel like a real Buccaneer, you might
just need to know the following about the Association you passionately love.

NAME. Buccaneers Confraternity. The

members are called Buccaneers and may also be referred to as Sealords or simply Lords. The
National body is known and referred to as Buccaneers. Association of Nigeria (BAN)

ANTHEM. Buccaneers Anthem is in Yoruba -

PUBLICATION. The Buccaneers News Publication is

CONSTITUTIONS. In the early days, aside the dummy non-

operative Written Constitution that was prepared for registration purposes on Campus,
Buccaneers were governed by the unwritten Constitution, with the Big Eye as the sole
custodian, Invoker and interpreter. Presently, there are
two (2) operating Constitutions on Deck, viz. 1)
Written Constitutions: These are written documents regulating the way of life of Lords as
contained in the Creed which was introduced in 1985 and the recently introduced Compass, as
amended in 2015, which contains rules and regulations guiding the Adventure.
2) Unwritten Constitution : The Unwritten Constitution has being in existence and operational
from inception in 1972. It is above and supercedes in content, context and power, every other
written Laws on Deck. It is an exclusive reserve of the GE, who is the sole Custodian and the
only Lord that has the right and power to invoke, apply and interpret any of the provisions of
the unwritten constitution. However, it calls to reason, if the GE considers other clauses and
provisions that relate to any particular issue in the written constitutions before making
pronouncements.

CLARION CALL. The Clarion call is:

"ALORA IN THE BEGINNING AND AWUMEN IN THE END".
Other common sayings on Deck are: No Price No Pay.
An Eye for and Eye. Blud for Blud
Broda deliver Broda No Friend No Foe.
No Boras in the Wood. May your blud never clot in your vein

MEMBERSHIP. Membership is exclusively restricted to Male

students of Higher institutions, who must have exhibited the desired moral, social and
academic qualities and must have applied in their own handwritten using red ink, Applicants
who are successful at the Jaw-jaw are admitted as Deck Hands. However, in some special cases,
admission is extended to those who have graduated, through the same process, but such
Graduate members are admitted as Salted Lords.

DECK NAME. Once you are admitted into the

Buccaneers Confraternity, on the day of lni (short form for initiation), you adopt a Deck name,
with five (5) syllables, two (2) syllables for first name and three (3) syllables for last name, which
automatically makes you an entirely different person when on Deck, and you don't answer your
Lubbish name or talk to Lubbers when you are in your Reg or on Deck. Today, many Deck
names are in violation of the above principle. Each Lord assumes a Deck name in his entire life,
with the exception of inadvertently yellow spotted Lord, who would have to drop the old Deck
name and take on a new Deck name on readmission.

DRESS CODE The original dress code or Reg (short

form for Regalia) of the Buccaneers was a black long sleeve shirt with the insignia of the
Buccaneers in white colour at the back, which had since been replaced with a black monkey
jacket on a clean white long sleeve shirt, tucked into a black trouser, with knee length yellow
hose on a white canvas, and a yellow scarf (head dressing) to match and bone (Femur shaped
wooden baton). The use of yellow ear clips had since been retired.
However, at public functions that does not require regalia, for uniformity and fraternal
relations, Lords present may adorn yellow head dressing (cap) on white native or black suit with
white shirt and yellow tie (long or bow).

DECK ACTIVITIES/SALLIES. The major Deck activities are called Sallies,

there are three (3) types of Sallies viz: Major, Minor and Micro:

Major Sallies are specifically for BAN Activities: •General meetings

•Jawjaw •Ini
•Burnfire. •Shiptail.
•Graduation/Corpers •Anchor.
At any major Buccaneers sally there must be the following:
•Dead Man's Chest {coffin/casket) with the Buccaneers insignia on the top and on the two
sides, •Lantern (Atupa), • TomTom (Musical
Instruments) • Bones ( Femur shaped wooden bone)
•Flesh (Roasted Beef) •Rumses (Beer).
•Brew (Traditional local Deck drink). At major Sallies, full or half Reg is
worn and Lords don't interact with Lubbers once we adorn our Regs, with the exception of BAN
Masters, and also during Shiptail for about two to three (2-3) hours, when we invite and
interact with Lubbers on Deck, mainly family members and friends, with our yellow scarf off.
For major BAN attendance is compulsory and BAN provides entertainment.

Minor Sallys are in honour of Lords at major occasions/events that concern Lords directly viz,
. •Marriage Ceremonies
•Burial Ceremonies. Unlike in Major sallies, Regs are not
required, but half Reg is compulsory for Lords that will directly represent the Confraternity at
such occasions viz: Lords that will cross bones at marriage ceremonies, and Lords that will give
speech, lead funeral procession or bear the casket of departed Lords at burial ceremonies.
All other Lords at the event can be in mufti, but if they have to sing, all singsongs must be
conventional. This event is a mixture of BAN and social activities, attendance is voluntary and
the Host entertains.

Micro Sallys, like the Minor Sallies, they are to honour Lords at minor occasions/events that
concerns a Lord directly, . •House Warming.
•Naming Ceremony •Graduation Party.
• Birthday Party. etc. • Readmission of yellow spotted Lord.
Regs are not allowed and singsong is conventional. It is a social activity, with the exception of
Readmission of yellow spotted Lords, attendance is voluntary, the Host takes care of
entertainment. However, sallies at Galleon or Frigate Floatilas and private
Anchor points are allowed, but no Regs allowed and singsongs are unrestricted. Please note
that Sallying and wearing of Regs in the public, are exclusively for Buccaneers private events,
the wearing of Regs or public Sally at any Buccaneers relative (third parties) event is strictly
prohibited. However, for uniformity and fraternal relations, attending Lords may adorn yellow
head dressing (cap) on white native dress or black suit with white shirt and yellow tie (long or
bow).

SALLIES AND VOYAGES There are various Islands on each Deck,

During Sallies, the act of moving from one Island to another is referred to as voyage.
Buccaneers move or go on voyage in single file brandishing their Bones, with the Stirrer
navigating with the Atupa in the front, followed immediately by the Dead Man's Chest borne
shoulder high by at least four (4) Lords, then all other Lords, with the Silly Jim and the Hauler by
the sides and the Big Eye bringing up the rear. The recognised singsong to start a voyage is
Marle Marleya, Marle Marleya.

IDENTIFICATION AND RECOGNITION OF LORDS If you suspect and

you want to confirm if someone is a Lord, there are three (3) ways, without arousing suspicion
or the attention of third party(ies). 1) Whistling - You whistle -
Oluwa lo sho ri oko rembete. (short form = sho ri oko rembete). if
the person is a Lord, he responds with - Anobi lo sho ri obo rambata. (short form = sho ri obo
rambata). Then the Lord that responds go to the Lord that first whistled, he says Alora
and gives the fraternal hand shake. 2) Hand
Signal - You move into a position where the suspected person can see your face, then you will
rub your right eyebrow three (3) times using your right hand. If the person is a Lord, he
immediately gets the message, he comes to you, says Alora and gives the fraternal hand shake,
if it is not convenient and he cannot come immediately, he nods his head three time also, in
acknowledgment and comes to fraternise later. 3) Horning - When you are
driving and you suspect that the person driving another car or on the street is a Lord, you give
the Buccaneers five (5) sounds horn signal using the two and three (2 & 3) sounds horn signal
mode, if the person driving is truly a Lord, he responds using the same two and three (2 & 3)
sounds horn signal mode, However, if the suspect is trekking and you give the horn signal, he
looks into your direction and waves his right hand three times in acknowledgement. if
necessary those driving may pull over (park) and meet to exchange pleasantries. We expect
that in the not too distant future it will be safe again to display BAN stickers on our cars.
Furthermore, if you want a Lord to know that you are at his door or gate, you also give the two
and three (2 & 3) sounds knock signal.

FRATERNAL GREETING. Buccaneers greet each other with a clamped

hand shake. To do this, the longest finger must be/rest on the main vein of each others inner
wrist, not on the arm or elbow as currently practised by some Lords. Whenever you clamp or
touch the main vein in the inner side of another Lord's wrist, it automatically reminds you of
the bonding, the fraternal link between the two (2) of you, and why you should relate in a
brotherly manner to him.

INFORMATION DISSEMINATION. It could be verbal or written.

Verbal - it is called capping. Written - it is called
signal. Both convey various types of notices, messages, directives,
instructions, information, etc.

SINGSONGS. Basically there are two (2) types of singsongs

namely: •General or Unconventional- These are singsongs that may
contain raw languages and lousy comments/remarks as generally sung on Deck.
• Conventional: These are singsongs with no raw languages or lousy contents that are sung
during BAN social activities especially in the public and may also be sung on Deck. NOTE OF
WARNING -Please note that there is close resemblance or similarity between BAN singsongs
and those of other Confraternities, hence you should listen carefully and observe well and if
necessary give the identification signal before joining or entering any unknown or unfamiliar
sally

DISCIPLINARY ACTIONS/PUNISHMENT The mode and type of

Disciplinary Actions and applicable punishments for offences in existence on Campus Decks
were reviewed during the formation of BAN in 1982 as follows:
•Hauling- For light on-Deck offences •Rumses fine - For minor off-
Deck offences. •Spotting - Spotting is in three (3) categories.viz Single
Black spot, Double Black spot and Yellow spot. A Frigate Captain can only
pronounce a Single Black spot, while the Galleon Master can give both Single and Double Black
spots. It is only the GE that can pronounce Yellow spot
•Single Black spot - Punitive measure with definite time limit, for not too serious offences, like
lagging, disrespect, improper dressing, absence or lateness to Sally or Mit. Lying, fighting, etc.
This can be pronounced by a Frigate Captain or a Galleon Master on Lords in their respective
Frigate or Galleon only. Such Lords stand suspended from all BAN activities for that specific
period of time of the single black spot, unless the single black spot is bleached. The bleaching
can be by the same Frigate Captain, or the Galleon Master as a superior officer, if he considers
the punishment to harsh for the offence committed, after due consultations with the Frigate
Captain that pronounced the spot. •Double
Black spot - This is usually pronounced by Galleon Masters for very serious offences that the
Galleon Masters lack authority to adjudicate on, such as gross insubordination, stealing, fraud
or financial embezzlement, illegal Ini, impersonation, thugery, arson, violent and destructive
acts. mutiny, etc. The issue is then referred to the Bridge, the Lord with double spot is
excommunicated and suspended indefinitely from all BAN activities pending the outcome of
further investigation and eventual disciplinary action by the Bridge, which usually is one of the
following, reduction to single black with time limit, outright bleaching of the double black or
yellow spotting. •Yellow spot. This is outright
expulsion and permanent excommunication from the Confraternity, as already mentioned
above, only the GE has the power to yellow spot.

Once a yellow spot is pronounced, the Lord is excommunicated, all non-personal BAN materials
are withdrawn and his Deck name is permanently rested. However, in the unlikely event that
such a case is revisited and the Lord is vindicated and readmitted, he has to assume a Deck new
name.

Only single or double black spots can be bleached, and the Lord admitted back on Deck without
change of name, yellow spot cannot be bleached under any circumstance once pronounced. A
yellow spotted Lord becomes a Land Lubber immediately the yellow spotting is pronounced,
but in the unlikely event that the yellow spotted Lord is found not guilty of the alleged offence,
he can be readmitted at the discretion of the GE or any other successive GE, he assumes a new
Deck name at a special micro sally for his readmission, made up of the GE, his Pieces, the FC
and the GM of the affected Lord, with the affected Lord footing the bill. GEs are advised to be
very careful and highly conservative with the pronouncement of Yellow spot. Except when
highly necessary, we should not send aways members that have known so much about the
confraternity.

However, the following four (4) sets of Lords are immuned to any form of spotting
1} The two (2) Founding Fathers. 2) The first five (5) pioneering Big
Eyes at Modaship 3) The first (1st) pioneering Big Eyes at any other
Deck. 4) All Ex GEs

ISLANDS. Ricca Ricardo, founder and first (1st) Big

Eye of Buccaneers Confraternity discovered and annexed the following first two (2) Buccaneers
lslands on record at Modaship Deck, which he christened as Anansa and Arrabella Islands
respectively.

COMMISSIONING OF FLOATILA . The spiritual aspect of this ceremony is performed

usually by the most senior Lord around, with the breaking of a bottle of Captain Morgan's Rum,
(Name after the acclaimed head of Buccaneers in the 17th Century) at the main entrance of
the Floatila before the ceremonial tape cutting.

QUALITIES OF A REAL BUCCANEER •Believes and fears God.

• Non-discriminatory. • Friendly and Gentlemanly.
• Loves other Lords and his fellowmen as himself. • Sound
academically and intelligent • Fearless and Truthful
• Respectful and Law abiding • Believes and respects Constituted
Authority. •Helps and assists the poor and needy.
•Protects the helpless and defends the less Privileged •Is not a Cultist,
have no Altar and don't offer sacrifice. •Do
not suck or drink blood. •Do not harm, hurt, maim, kill, destroy or
attack fellow human beings •Do not carry
dangerous or offensive weapons, viz, Eliminator, Bomboy, UTC axe, etc.
•Do not breed Criminals or support/promote Violence, Terrorism, Kidnapping, Arson, Militancy,
Theft, Hooliganism, or Armed Robbery. •Do not behave like Animals,
Vandals or Savages.

Any one who calls himself a Buccaneer and does the contrary of any of the above and most
especially the last six (6) qualities is not worthy of being a Buccaneer, he should be
immediately yellow spotted and handed over to the Police.
The formation of BAN as the rallying body along with the floating of more Decks, brought BAN
into limelight and attracted more old Lords back on Deck, as we tried to achieve some of our
objectives of taking BAN to the next level and gaining numerical Sallying strength.

Also during this period, we attempted to go international, by floating Decks at both University
of Ghana. Legon and Fourabay College in Ghana and Sierra Leone respectively.

The idea behind BAN formation was to have a central control for the activities of Buccaneers
world wide. •A body that will be the mouth piece of the Confraternity, exercise
authority, guide, regulate, direct, monitor and control the activities of Individual Lords, directly
and indirectly through the Decks, Frigates and Galleons. •A
body that will promote love, improve fraternal relations and foster unity and harmony amongst
Lords in particular, Decks, Frigates, Galleons and the entire human race in general.
•A body that will help actualise, sustain and promote the tenets and ideals of the founding
fathers. •A body that will assist and support individual Lords or group of
Lords in the pursuit of and to achieve their legitimate Academic, Professional, Political,
Personal, etc set goals and ambition. •A body that will look
after the welfare of fellow Buccaneers, propagate and ensure that the doctrine of being your
Brodas keeper is practised. •A body that will fight for and protect the
interest of women, children, the aged, the weak, the under privileged, the oppressed, the
exploited, the abused, the down trodden, those discriminated against, etc and give a voice to
the voiceless.

4) BAN TEETHING PERIOD 1982 TO 1989.

Kika Kikalo (1982 - 1985) Alpha. I remain the only GE that was not
elected, l assumed the office of GE automatically as the father of modern day Buccaneering and
exponent of BAN. When I was on the Bridge, l chose those that l could work with as my pieces,
my tenure as the first (1st) and Pioneer GE was very eventful, we started every thing from the
scratch together, using the principle of trial and error, there were no standards to benchmark
my performance against. We organized the Third (3rd), the best, most popular and most
interesting and intriguing National Convaj to date, at Boneo Deck, with the invaluable
assistance of the late Pario Palazo, ex-Modaship and founder of Boneo Deck. It was a beautiful
trip, we chartered six (6) train coaches and travelled by rail, sallying from Lagos to Ilorin, with
Lords joining enroute at Mushin, Oshodi, Agege, Abeokuta and Ibadan. At a point the Engine
Driver, stop the Train and came to ask if it was well with us, because of the heavy sallying, we
also exhausted the Alcoholic provision that should take the train to its final destination in Kano
before it got to Abeokuta. Aside that, I passed the infamous law that no
Lord shall wear the same cloak more than once in his life time, which is in the written
constitution, but which had been recklessly flouted knowingly or unknowingly by some past
GEs. I rested the use of the Dead Man's Chest
and Bones for safety and security reasons, when the safety of the Chest became a burden and
its transportation a liability. The Bone was also rested to prevent its being admitted as an
exhibit if found on arrested Lords by the Police. I
created BAN Anniversaries and organized the first, which was Buccaneers tenth (10th) year
Anniversary tagged DOUBLOON in 1982 I mutted
the idea that we should stop admitting new Members into BAN after Trilloon, that was to be in
1992, ten (10) years of formation of BAN, and make membership a birth right of male
offsprings of existing Lords, but it failed to fly at the OSB Mit.
Furthermore, we attempted to register BAN as an Association under the Land and Perpetual
Acts of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs, without success, due to objections at publication
point by the public.

While l was on the Bridge the first Buccaneers Flotilla was floated in Gowon Estate, Alpha
Galleon in 1983.

I make bold to say that l never before, during and after my tenure as GE, touched or embezzled
BAN's money, and without any fear of contradictions, l can say same for the two (2) immediate
GEs after me because l was around during their tenure, rather, we spent our time, money,
energy and other resources and risked our lives to get BAN off the ground and made it what it
was by the time we handed over and for some years thereafter.
As the pioneer GE, I took a lot of necessary Risks, notable amongst them;
Thrice (3ce) I risked my life to save fellow Lords from some members of other Confraternities,
viz
Twice (2ce) against the Pyrates Confraternity.

1) At Coral Deck during a Sally. 2) At Atlanta Deck during 2nd

National Convaj. I and some other daring Lords, notable
amongst them - One Legged Kujo, took the battle to the cove of the Pyrates Confraternity
Capons on the two (2) campuses, to rescue captured Lords.

Once (1ce) against Eiye Confraternity.

at Modaship during Doubloon against Eiye Confraternity – I single handedly went to retrieve
the Bank Vault Keys in the overturned Car of a Salted Lord - Piko Pikolo in the midst of members
of Eiye Confraternity, in front of Mellanby Hall, and also to rescue/secure the release of Lords
arrested/detained at Modaship's Police Post.
I terminated my PHd Program on account of BAN activities at University of Lagos in 1982 and
University of Ibadan in 1884. after appearing before the University of Lagos' Senate Committee
and also the University of Ibadan's Vice Chancellor Committee, on Campus Confraternities
disturbances respectively as follow: At Atlanta –
After 2nd Nat Convaj on the complaint lodged by Pyrates Confraternity.
At Modaship - After Doubloon on complaint lodged by BAN against Eiye Confraternity, with
the likes of Achimo Omita, Oslo Kogito, etc I also risked losing
my lucrative Bank job on account of Buccaneers problems here and there.

It is important to mention that during this period, there were a lot of inter - Confraternity
conflicts, which became pronounced and rampant with the emergence of new Campus
Confraternities, like the Black Axe, Vikings, Klansmen, Black beret and Maphites (Family Men)
Confraternities especially in the South-south and South-east geopolitical zones of Nigeria.
It was Professor Hezekiah Oluwasanmi, Vice Chancellor (1966 -75) University of Ife, now
Obafemi Awolowo University that first brought Campus Confraternities problems to the public
glare, when he proscribed the Pyrates Confraternity at the University of Ife, after a skirmish
between the Pyrates and Students Community. Professor Ade Ajayi, Vice Chancellor. University
of Lagos, was the next in line to proscribe Students Confraternities on Campus, after some
Students mustered courage and attacked Pyrates Confraternity (Walrus Deck) sally, over
reported cases of excessive intimidation and molestation, it was a bloody attack, with both
sides sustaining serious injuries, the Pyrates were the worse off and also suffered public
humiliation, after being overrun by the large group of Students, captured Pyrates were striped
naked and paraded around the campus. Other Institutions later proscribed Campus Cult, with
Professor Banjo, Vice Chancellor of University of Ibadan, where Student Confraternity started in
1952, with the formation of the Pyrates Confraternity by seven (7) Students, (popularly referred
to as the Magnificent seven) which included Prof Wole Soyinka (Captain Blood of Tortuga in
Pyratical circles) Prof Bolanle Awe. Ralph Opara, Ikpebare Aig-Imokhuede, etc, being the last to
proscribe Confraternities on Campus in 1985.

The second (2nd) Students Confraternity in Nigeria after the Pyrates Confraternity was the
National Association of Air Lord (Supreme Eiye Confraternity) in 1965 closely followed by BAN
as the third (3rd) in 1972, the first three (3) were at the University of Ibadan. The forth (4th)
was Neo Black Movement of Africa (Black Axe) at the University of Benin in 1983, followed by
the Eternal Fraternal Order of the Legion Consortium (the Klansmen Konfraternity, at the
University of Calabar as the fifth (5th) in 1985, while, the sixth (6th) was the Vikings
Confraternity (the Adventurers or alternately, the De Norsemen Club of Nigeria) founded in the
same University of Calabar, in 1986 . .

Other popular Students Confraternities that emerged later;

•The Familymen (Maphites) •Black Beret

This act of proscription started by Professor Oluwasanmi was a great mistake, and remains till
today, the remote cause of Campus Confraternities problems in Nigeria, as the Confraternities
became faceless and went underground, since they were no longer registered or recognised on
Campus, the Institutions could not hold anyone responsible whenever there was a problem,
hence, the Institutions resorted to the use of the Police, which unfortunately was highly
unprepared and misinformed to curb Campus Confraternities problems, The Police always
make general arrests after any Confraternities disturbances and tagged the arrested members
as Cultists or parade them as Armed Robbers whenever they found offensive weapons which
were meant for self defence on them. The
Nigerian Mass media, did not even help matters, especially the Print Media, after it failed to
destroy the real big Cults (Mother Cults) in the larger society, it found an easy prey in the
smaller Campus Confraternities by publishing exaggerated, fragmented, distorted,
uninvestigated, conflicting and unconfirmed reports about them. Some Confraternities
members mostly Pyrates in the Press, further compounded the situation by using their
Newspapers to publish false and embarrassing reports about other Confraternities in order to
tarnish their image. The Buccaneers suffered character damage from this act of junketing
journalism. The style adopted and the approach of mounting pressure on
Campus Confraternities as a way of addressing the problems by the Mass media did not yield
the desired result. It was like an attempt to kill the Baby after an unsuccessful attempt to kill the
mother. Presently, the Mother Cults are flourishing in the larger society with their nefarious
activities unchecked. That we now have members of Campus Confraternities joining or
graduating into the Mother Cults, despite the differences in doctrines.

With the assistance of Grand Pa, l was able to resolve most of the teething internal crises in
BAN, survived many inter- Confraternity conflicts and police harassment before I happily,
willingly and successfully handed over power to an able successor in Fast Venum in 1985. I want
to say for the first time and rest the erroneous impression and callous belief propagated by
some mischievous Lords that l did double counting of Lords at my Anchor Sally in 1985, in order
to favour Fast Venom. I hereby state categorically to all and sundry that it is not true, there was
nothing like that and I want to believe that this issue is now forever rested.

Fast Venom (1985 - 1987) Alpha. The tenure of this Gentleman and easy
going Buccaneer on the Bridge was uneventful, BAN structures were very infantile and still
being tested for relevance, needed amendments or alterations. He did not expand or introduce
new ideas, in order not to rock the polity, he just managed to maintain the status quo, kept the
Adventure on course without much activities. He was the second (2nd) GE, and BAN did not
have any laid down procedure for the appointment/election of GE, as l was neither appointed
nor elected. However, with the benefit of hindsight. I realised that the procedure adopted by
the SBC during my tenure, to elect all BAN Masters or Pieces Of Eight (PO8) individually was
faulty and caused problems for Fast Venom as GE. He was elected, so were his Pieces, he did
not have the privilege of choosing those he trusted or could work with as his Pieces. Hence, we
had different Bed fellows on the Bridge and he could not perform effectively to his ability. BAN
learnt a hard lesson from this procedure of electing all BAN Masters individually, as practised at
the end of my tenure. Hence, the SBC during his tenure introduced a new procedure, to just
elect the GE and allow him to choose those he can work with as his Pieces, which is still been
practised to date, as opposed to the ill fated procedure of electing all the BAN Masters
individually The general belief rightly or wrongly at that time, was that Fast Venum was too
weak and too liberal to a fault and his Pieces were stronger than him. Whatever it was, BAN
realised and immediately corrected the mistake. He successfully handed over to Janta Bulala in
1987 at a shabbily organised Anchor in Alpha.

Janta Bulala (1987 - 1989) Alpha. Janta Bulala remains the first GE to be
elected singly and given the sole power to hire and fire his Pieces. His tenure was very eventful,
the sea was very rough, sallying was turbulent on many Decks, cumulating in the suspension of
Deck activities and new intakes. Thereafter, he expanded the Adventure with the floating of
new Decks eastwards bringing more problems to BAN. The most intriguing about his tenure,
was that the very day he became GE, he placed all the seven (7) Pieces of his predecessor on
single black spots for gross ineptitude, lack of commitment to the Adventure and the very poor
way and manner the Anchor sally was organised. This commendable, courageous and fearless
act of a true Buccaneer and GE, caused acrimony and bad blood on Deck between him, the
immediate past GE, the spotted former Pieces, and their Supporters/Loyalists. The problem
escalated further, cumulating in the first attempted mutiny in BAN, when the leadership of
Gamma Galleon sent a seemingly contemptuous signal to Janta Bulala, insinuating loss of
confidence in his administration for spotting the Pieces of the immediate past GE. Janta Bulala
responded by immediately placing Gamma GM and Pen mate on Double black spots and
marooned the Galleon for three (3) moons. His reaction was termed in some quarters as the
voice of Janta and the hand of Kika. in his effort to find a
perfect mode of election of GE, Janta changed the mode of election of GE from the erstwhile
general voting by all Lords to a conclave of GMs and FCs.
However, his Administration was tainted by the unfortunate botched hand over at his Anchor
sally at Gabano Hotel in Epsilon Galleon in 1989, with Zoro Sabata and Jingo Jingolo as the two
Contestants. Just before the elections, Janta Bulala decreed that Lords aspiring
to be GE must apply and present themselves for screening by past GEs, before voting by the
conclave of GMs and FCs. there was a spontaneous negative reaction by a group of Lords
mostly from Gamma and Beta Galleons, who considered it rightly though, as a change of rules
in the middle of the game, (forgetting that Janta was still GE) they rose rowdily and viciously
against the pronouncement, their behaviour was so unruly and chaotic, that all activities
grinded to a halt, neither the screening nor the voting took place, the Hand over was aborted,
abandoned and adjourned indefinitely because of the rowdiness. The screening
pronouncement by Janta Bulala demonstrated one of the rare qualities of a GE, because he
thought and reasoned ahead of the followership. l was later informed, that it was a smart
political manoeuvre/smoke screen to truncate plans to hijack BAN leadership and retaliate by
some Lords from the same Gamma/Beta axis, he unnecessarily regarded as 'disgruntled
elements' loyal and sympathetic to the course of the spotted Pieces of the immediate past GE
and the Masters of Gamma Galleon. This Group once again described Janta Bulala's move as
the voice of Janta and the hand of Kika. (See mi, see trouble oh). Is it that Janta was so daft
and could not reason or take decisions on his own as an intelligent Lord and a GE, yet he went
ahead to bag a Doctorate degree (Phd) from the University of Benin and now a high profile
Professor of recorning in the Academia in Nigeria and internationally. In my characteristic
manner, l was neither moved nor perturbed by this insinuation, as no Lord was bold enough to
confront me on such a malicious allegation. My take on
this issue is that l have pledged total loyalty and allegiance, and have sworn to always defend
and protect the office of the GE, so far his action is on the right tract and in the interest of the
Adventure, but If he derails, acts otherwise and refuses to listen to advise, as a loyal Buccaneer
and believer in the supremacy of the GE, l would rather stay aloof, than go against the office of
the GE. With the benefit of hindsight, l was very happy that
the Supreme Eye, whom l invited to the Anchor sally at Gabano Hotel in Epsilon in that year,
after about twelve (12) sagas absence, did not turn up at our rendezvous point to join me in
the three hundred kilometers (300km) long journey from Alpha to Epsilon on that faithful day.
Shortly after the botched Handover, a call was made for Lords interested in becoming GE to
apply and present themselves for screening, only Zoro Sabata applied and later presented
himself for screening, since he was the sole Candidate, there was no need for an election, he
automatically became the next GE and Janta Bulala handed over to him in late 1989.

All what you have read in this Section were in existence/practised/happened before the
existence of the Compass and at the same time, I do not by this Manuscript intend to cast
aspersions on any Lord's character or open up old wounds, as all the problems that emanated
from the various Deck issues mentioned above, had since been treated with maturity and
amicably resolved in the Buccaneers fashion many sagas ago.
However, in 1989, the Federal
Government banned Student Confraternities on all Institutions Campus and promulgated the
Students Union Activities (Control and Regulation) Decree 47, this move by the Government
again proved to be a big mistake, rather than curbing, it further strengthened Student
Confraternities when they were forced to the streets and recruitment policies of some of the
new/young Confraternities were relaxed to include non-students.

I wish to close this section by adding that BAN wouldn't have been BAN and Kika Kikalo
wouldn't have been Kika Kikalo or have achieved so much, if l did not enjoy the unalloyed
services and support of a loyal and dedicated Pieces and a fantastic and understanding
followership. We all made it happen.

5) BAN FROM 1989 TO MID 2010

After the unsuccessful anchor sally of Janta Bulala at Gabano Hotel, Epsilon and the eventual Ini
of Zoro Sabata as GE, l distanced myself from BAN activities outside Alpha before l finally
withdrew from all BAN activities in 1992, because of the following three (3) incidences which
made me to have a rethink about my continuing membership, vis a vis, the kind of
Confraternity we were operating, what BAN meant to me and others and its future:
a) The aborted Handover sally of Janta Bulala at Gabano Hotel. Epsilon in 1989 and the
circumstances surrounding the eventual emergence of Zoro Sabata as GE.
b) The derogatory statements and unbuccannering behaviour of a clique of Lords at Alpha
Galleon’s Flotilla, while l was trying to organize Trillon with Zoro Sabata in early 1991. They
claimed that l discriminated against Polytechnic graduates, yet my two (2) best friends on deck
were Polytechnic graduates, also three (3) of my Pieces were Polytechnic graduates
Unfortunately, BAN had been beleaguered by many other pressing problems, that to date, no
GE ever gave it a thought or has been able to organize Trillon.
c) The third (3rd), the biggest blow and the last straw that broke the camel's back was the utter
neglect, abandonment and withdrawal I suffered from my very close Buccaneer Brodas, when I
had issues with my job in late 1992, which eventually led to my unplanned resignation in 1993.
These are Lords that we see almost everyday, my cove then, which was like the second (2nd)
Bridge of BAN and a beehive of Buccaneering activities even when l was no longer the GE was
deserted, that my Wife was so concerned, that she asked questions which l had no answers to
and felt betrayed. Like many other Lords then, I had no friends outside BAN, BAN was my
passion and my life, I think, eat, drink and sleep BAN.

The above three (3) incidences made me realize that the Broda we call each other is just lip
service, the strong fraternal relationship or love that I thought existed then was mere eye
service, we didn't care or have respect for each other, nepotism even made it worse.

Hence, I made 1992, the check point in my chequered Buccaneering career and went
underground as a common adage says "the Actor leaves the stage when ovation is loudest."

Those on the Bridge after Janta Bulala, during the period of my absence are:

Zoro Sabata - Epsilon (1989 -92)

Vicious Kurata - Lamda (1992 -94)

Koko Forester - Zeta (1994 - 96)

Baja Kilado - Alpha (1996 -99)

Sally Forever - Alpha (1999 - 01)

Chronic Malaria - Zeta (2001 - 03)

Choko De Milo - Zeta (2003 -05)

Pussy Pusicat - Theta (2005 - 07)

Santo Elrado - Omicron (2007 - 09)

A lot of good and bad things happened to BAN during this period that we should thank Grand
Pa that BAN is still alive. We should also recognise that given the knowledge and exposure of
some of the GEs on the Bridge during the period , along with the many intra and inter
Confraternity conflicts, cum regular Police harassment they had to contend with and resolve,
honestly they collectively did a yeoman's job, in keeping the Ship afloat and we should overlook
and pardon some of their actions, inactions, mistakes and excesses, but it doesn't mean they
should be wished away unmentioned or undiscussed.

To my utter surprise even during my absence from Deck, a school of thought made up
principally of my Deck mates and some older Lords including the late Supreme Eye blamed me
for some of the problems on Deck, viz:
1) That I promoted the proliferation of decks with impunity, and due to the large number of
Lords, BAN lost control and focus and became a hydra headed monster that attracted negative
publicity.

2) That despite all pleas for me to remain as GE for a longer period in 1985 during BAN's
teething period, I hurriedly handed over power, when BAN was still in its infancy.

3) That the era of Fast Venum and Janta Bulala didn’t experience much problems because of
the relatively small number of Lords/Decks, plus my presence, advising and guiding from the
background

4) That l was too distant from Zoro Sabata, when he became GE and the Bridge moved out of
Lagos.

5) That I practically abandoned Ship after Zoro Sabata’s tenure, then our name got soiled and
BAN became rudderless, due to the ineptitude of successive GEs, who didn’t know much and
were not sufficiently tutored or grounded in the acts and tenets of Buccaneering and human
management before/when they took over.

Again, with the benefit of hindsight, I sincerely admit that PROBABLY some of the problems
might have been prevented if l had stayed longer or was still around for a much longer period,
but l dissociate myself from being overtly responsible for most of the problems. rather as l was
made to understand, it was the ineptitude, insincerity, indiscriminate floating of new Decks,
Inadequate control of Decks. increase in Illegal inis, lack of knowledge/orientation, Timidity,
Financial recklessness and misappropriation, Nepotism, Lack of records, Power drunkenness,
Over zealousness, reckless spotting, misinterpretation of Creed, over democratization of the
system, maladministration, intolerance, infighting, increase in both intra and inter Confraternity
crises, arrest and parade of Lords as criminals and Lubbers as Lords by the Police, Increase in
police cases and harassment, loss of focus and weakness of some of the GEs which amplified
BANs problems over the years.

Zoro Sabata Epsilon (1989 - 92). The sea was very rough and there was
a lot of crises on Deck when he was on the Bridge, probably due to one, a combination or all of
the following; •The circumstances surrounding
and the fall out of his ascendancy to the Bridge.
•The first (1st) time the Bridge moved out of Alpha Galleon - majority of active BAN Members
then were residing in Lagos and erroneously saw or regarded BAN as an Alpha affair.
•The poor managerial style and winner takes all attitude of Zoro Sabata, he did not mend
fences neither did he reach out to the Lords in opposition. •
He distanced himself from past GEs, who could have advised and assisted him, but carved a
bigger BAN empire for himself at Epsilon, doing what he wanted and everything by himself and
failed to carry the followership along. •
I was reliably informed that the business of illegal Inni for personal financial benefits flourished
the most during his tenure on the Bridge.. •l
was also informed that he found it very difficult to hand over at the expiration of his tenure.
Unfortunately, he has answered Grand Pas call, but while he was still around, I presented the
above to him, and made him realise whenever the situation permitted, that the major
problems in BAN started during his tenure as GE, which he never for once refuted.

Regardless of the above, Zoro Sabata also

did some positive things for BAN and we can not but look at his good and noble part, he was a
very rugged, highly passionate and devotedly committed Lord. He assisted BAN in acquiring
Landed Property in Epsilon and holds the record of having attended the most and if not all
major BAN activities across the country.

In general, l cannot dwell much on what transpired between 1989 - mid 2010, because l was
not really on Deck, including the tenure of Zoro Sabata. But it was during this period that a fine
Lord and former Deck mate at Modaship - Labra Matala, Senior Assistant Registrar at DELSU.
Falkland, was brutally murdered in cold blood in his home in the presence of his family by a
group of students suspected to be Axemen in 1996.

There were many other events of note, that happened during this period, viz:
• This was the period the GE, a living being, the most reverend Lord and Master on Deck
became a Motor Vessel, with the prefix MV before his name • This
was the period the mode of electing GE was changed from voting by conclave of GMs and FC's
to OSBs. • This was the period as l was
made to understand, that BAN became a cash cow and some GEs failed to render financial
reports after leaving the Bridge. • This was the period
as l was also informed of reckless and unnecessary Spotting by GEs. •
This was the period those who did not have the authority to float Decks or conduct Ini, viz,
GMs, FCs and Salted Lords, did so with impunity, without control and with reckless abandon for
personal financial benefits. • This was the period
all important BAN records and documents were destroyed by a GE on claims of threats of
arrest by Security Agents. • This was the period that in spite
of the negative Mass media report on Campus Cults, they proliferated, became more influential
on Campuses and also moved out of Campus.
• This was the period Offshore Decks were floated and BAN presence felt in International
waters. • This was the period BAN dabbled into some profitable and
unprofitable commercial ventures. • This was the period
BAN started acquiring landed properties. •
This was the period the foundation of the existing National Flotilla was laid.
• This was the period our name was always in the media for various Cult and Criminal related
offences like: Armed Robbery. Murder, procession of guns and other harmful weapons.
•This was the period the need for and the preparation of the Compass started.

I can only hope that fellow Ex-GEs especially those on the Bridge during this period, will one day
in the near future, open up and give us the much desired insight into what really transpired
during the period they were on the Bridge, as already and voluntarily done by my very good
friend and Broda - Choco D' Milo. This will help BAN a lot as we would be able to determine
what went wrong, when and how it happened or how, when, why, or where we missed it.

6) BAN FROM MID 2010 TO DATE

As one of the first (1st) generation Lords, I was unhappy with the state of BAN when I came
back on Deck in 2010/11. I met a polarized BAN which discriminates against each other, despite
the fact that we swore not to discriminate against anyone. There was nonchalance and
insincerity in dealings with each other and the doctrine of Broda Deliver Broda (BDB) had been
thrown overboard. With the exception of a few sincere young Lords that could be excused,
most Lords till date, are mere fair weather and beer drinking friends.

Also as one of the founding fathers of BAN, and the first GE, I categorically state that the BAN I
met was afflicted with ideological decadence, moral bankruptcy, maladministration, power
drunkenness, and lack of direction. there were cliques and associations within BAN, along
parent Deck, schools attended, ethnic group, Geo-political zones, financial class, membership
of other societies and residential area lines..

BAN did not and still does not have long term plans that outlive the tenure of each GE. Each GE
comes on the Bridge to prosecute and propagate his own personal agenda

The problems of BAN to some of us, did not just start yesterday or today, it started, from the
very early days, due to lack of orientation and became hydra headed during/from the era of
Zoro Sabata, when BAN leadership became somehow.

Those on the Bridge during this period are:

Toni Toniho Alpha. (2009 - 2011) I can only talk about Toni Toniho from
mid 2010 to his Anchor sally in 2011. Before coming back, l had seen BAN as an half filled glass
of water, and always look at the unfilled half of the glass, but in mid 2010 after about eighteen
(18) years absence and with continuing pressure to return to Deck from well meaning Lords.
like Toni Toniho, Careless Eye, Kinky Belecus and Janta Bulala, who made time out to reach out
to me. I heeded the call and reversed my outlook by looking at the filled half of the glass and
not the unfilled half, but instead of just rushing back on Deck, by honouring the invitation to
attend the OSB Mits in Valencia and later Zeta Galleons in 2010, I wrote papers to be read at
the Mits as a way of testing my relevance in 21st Century bh, but the receipt of the papers were
never acknowledged, nor reacted to and I wouldn’t know if they were ever read.

However, in 2011, I was invited and attended a Mit of past GEs, at the behest of the GE, my
friend and one of my very good brodas on Deck, with sincere passion for the Adventure - Toni
Toniho. This was the very first time l met the GEs after Zoro Sabata, with the exception of
Vicious Kurata and Koko Forester. We had fantastic deliberations, but it ended there, no
minutes, no follow-up or fall-out.

Finally, I attended the OSB Mit at Sigma in 2011 along with the Supreme Eye, and Branco Dudu,
who briefed in shortly. where l presented a paper. There I witnessed the grave decay on Deck,
some Lords still see BAN activities as a jamboree, some were drunk, some didn't attend or
participate in the Mit proper, some came to Mit venue with girl friends (Loot), some challenged
constituted authority, some shouted down voices of contrary view, some used abusive and
provocative languages, some drew unimaginable inferences, some disrespected the GE, Lords
did not accord respect to each other or older Lords, some displayed warrant arrogance, some
practiced their profession on Deck, some I learnt extorted money from Deck Hands, or. Junior
Lords. I also observed that Advisory and other Committees membership is directly or indirectly
restricted/rotated amongst few old Lords, especially Ex-GEs, this does not allow for general
participation and the development of other Lords, especially OSBs and Salted Lords, whom l
believe also have a lot to offer BAN. All these prompted me to prepare series of papers tagged
the New BAN Order (NBO) containing the following,

Briefs on papers contained in the. New BAN Order (NBO).

Below are the highlights of the papers contained in the NBO, the full detailed papers may be
made available on request by appropriate authorities or to the generality of Lords, in future if
the need arises. .

•League Of Weathered Beaten Sealords (LOWBS). aka Elders Council. There is need for Lords
to look forward to another higher and enviable position on Deck, after attaining the present
highest position of the Order of Scarlet Buccaneers (OSB). There is also need to stop the
indiscriminate usage of the term 'WEATHER BEATEN' The LOWBS is synonymous to the Council
of Elders In Lordish parlance. The LOWBS should now be the highest level a Lord can attain, and
can use the prefix 'WBS' before his Deck name, with the attendant privileges. All sallying Salted
Lords inied before 1981 are automatic members, while committed Lords from 1981 upwards
must fulfil the following: Age - 50 years and above, must be a Scarlet Buccaneer and must
have spent 35years on Deck, properly innied as a Deck Hand, logged and affiliated to a Frigate
and Galleon, before they are considered for admission into the League. The role is advisory.
• Privateers: aka King Makers, This is a body that will screen and recommend to the GE, eligible
Salted Lord for admission into the Order Of Scarlet Buccaneers (OSB) and the screening and
shortlisting of candidates aspiring to be GE. The Privateers comprises six (6) members, the
Incumbent GE and five (5) nominated members as follow: WBS =
2. LJS = 1,
OSB = 2. It is headed by the most senior WBS,
with the younger OSB member as secretary. All the six (6) members must agree on the choice
of candidates for recommendation into the OSB and as GE. At the appropriate time in each
GE's tenure, he inaugurates the Privateers and their tenure expires with that of the GE.

•Bootleggers: aka Prosecutors. The body shall be inaugurated by the GE at the beginning of his
tenure. The body will investigate all disciplinary cases referred to it by the GE. Recommends
appropriate disciplinary measures in line with laid down rules. Monitors compliance of
disciplinary actions metted out to erring Lords. The Bootleggers consists of seven (7) Members,
the Immediate Past GE (LJS) and six (6) other nominated members viz:
WBS = 1, OSB = 3,
Salted Lords = 2. At least one OSB and one Salted Lords
must be Legal practitioners. The body is headed by the immediate past GE, with one of the
Salted Lords as Secretary. The life span of each set of Bootleggers is tied to the tenure of the GE
they served under.

•League of Long John Silver: This was inaugurated by Toni Toniho at his Anchor Sally in 2011.

Election of GE. The GE is only relevant if he has his Rugged Scroll as Staff of Office. All Lords,
regardless of Status/ Position/Age on Deck/Biological Age, etc, are to subject themselves to the
authority of the GE. BAN should review the mode of electing the GE, The current system of
voting by OSB members in local and international waters is faulty and fraught with danger.
Electioneering campaign during the last election was at best healthy, presently, aspiring GEs
spend so much money for election, including travelling to, international waters to canvass for
votes, which makes it very costly. My Brodas l want you to ask yourself the following questions..
1) Aside the power, what are the benefits or spoils derivable in the office if the GE.
2) If an Aspirant spends millions of Naira globe trotting to canvass for votes, how will he recoup
such money after the election. 3) Since Aspirants have been campaigning,
can you pinpoint any major thing they promised, which was eventually executed when they got
to the Bridge. If you have the right answers to the above questions, then we need to
discontinue this OSB voting system because, only candidates that have so much money to
gallivant across the globe to reach out physically and probably financially to feeble minded OSB
Members are likely to win even if they are not competent. I wont even be surprised if in future,
(that is if it is not already practised underground), GE Aspirants dole out money to GMs and FCs
(with all due respect) to campaign for them or help them secure the votes of feeble minded
OSB members in their Galleons or Frigates respectively Furthermore, l still believe something is
just not right about this electronic voting from international waters, l want us to look at the
proposed system of the Privateers electing GE for BAN, where all the six (6) Privateers
nominated from all the different bodies in BAN, must all vote for one candidate before he
becomes elected as GE, no abstention and no minority report.

Eligibility for Consideration as GE The Lord must have

joined and properly initiated as a Deck Hand
The Lord must have a known and viable means of livelihood - self employed (business), or paid
employment, not a Fraudster, Drug peddler, 419ner, Terrorist, Militant, Ex- convict etc.
The Lord must be married. The Lord must be a member of the
Order of Scarlet Lord (OSB) with at least twenty five (25) unbroken active sagas on Deck.
The Lord must be intelligent, of sound mind and fluent in English language.
The Lord must belong to a Galleon and Frigate that must support and sponsor him candidacy.
The Lord must not be a member of any of the Mother Cults

•Discipline. The decision of the GE shall be final on all Disciplinary matters. However two (2)
independent bodies viz Bootleggers headed by the immediate past GE and the GE's Pieces
headed by the Scroller, shall conduct thorough investigations into all matters referred to them
and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures to the GE in other to promote fairness and
prevent injustice.

•Sagaly Activities: This calls for the fixing of major BAN Activities on pre-determined weekends
of specific months of the year, so that all Lords will know well in advance and for certain that
there is a BAN activity on that particular weekend, the only thing that is not pre--determined is
the venue, which will always vary, for example, we can fix OSB Mits for every first (1st)
weekend in February, while Shiptail or Anchor may be for every second (2nd) week in August,
etc.

• Ini: This states those that can Inied, the necessary preparation and what should be available
during Inni. Number of Lords per Deck, etc. It also emphasizes the need for a new General and
single Ancient scroll for new members ini, as a way to curb or permanently stop illegal ini. The
Ancient scroll will be the only scroll for all general Inis and will always be in the custody of the
GE, who makes it available during National Ini only. Also, a new Rugged scroll is to be prepared
solely for the swearing in of GEs and doubles as the staff of office of the GE. In the same vain
we would need Galleon and Frigate scrolls.

•Social Responsibilities: This is an opportunity to substitute our already battered image and
endear ourselves to the local and international communities. The approach should be bifocal
and multi modal. a) UME Sagaly Award: We
offer monetary gifts to the best three (3) students in UME Sagaly.
b) Sponsorship of Indigent Students : We offer scholarships to brilliant proven indigent
students in secondary schools. c) Sponsorship of
Post Graduate Research Projects in Higher Institutions: We sponsor Post Graduate Students
Research Projects in pre determined fields or areas of interest. We need to set up. a
Foundation for this. d) Sponsorship of Research
into some endemic National Issues or Problems: We take a particular national issue and
commission research into it with a view of advising or proffering solution to Government.
e) Endangered Species Project: To Protect, Preserve and Repopulate some endangered animals,
especially local birds in Nigeria. (Wildlife Conservation)
f) Robin Hood Project: (Defender of the Poor). Rendering free Legal services to the poor using
Lords that are Legal practitioners. g) Good Samaritan
Project: Providing free medical services/assistance directly or indirectly to the sick and injured
using Lords that are Medical practitioners or footing Medical hospital bills.
h) Acada Project: Free summer coaching classes for students in areas where they record low
scores in core subjects like Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Further Mathematics and
English Language in SSSE and UME, using Lords in the Teaching Profession .
i) Water Supply: Sinking of bore holes in communities that does not have portable water.
j) Cottage Industries: We set up cottage industries to create employment for some Lords, and
or their family members or the Lubbish public. It will also generate income for BAN and
provides training opportunities for the public. The list
goes on and on, depending on what we want to achieve, do, mode of execution, and financial
implication.

•Admission to OSB : It attempt to improve on the seemingly lopsided mode of admitting Salted
Lords to the Order Of Scarlet Buccaneers (OSB) • Number to be admitted per
saga • Qualification/Requirement. • Mode of
Application. • Privileges

•General Issues: This contains the following. a)

Mode of Greeting/Nomenclature/Lexicon -( partly treated above.)
b) Logging Advertisement - This has to do with e-logging of all Lords.
c) Influencing policies in Nigeria -( to be discussed under my vision)

•Trillon: The twentieth anniversary which has now passed, but as it applies to out
Confraternities, It is whenever we want to celebrate Trillon,, that is Trillon.

• BAN Control Account: This is an attempt to assist the GE in particular and BAN in general to
have direct and remote control on BAN Accounts, it talks about:. •
Types of Accounts to be opened • Uses of the Accounts.
• Approving Authorities for activities on the Accounts, •
Signatories to the Accounts , • Auditing of the Accounts

You cannot really appreciate or understand the NBO unless you go through the complete
report, l tried to touch on every aspect of the Adventure, and how to move forward, which
was initially discussed with very old past GEs (Fast Venum, Janta Bulala, and Zoro Sabata) and
the then GE - Toni Toniho in Epsilon in 2011 at the invitation of Zoro Sabata. At the meeting, we
tried to persuade the GE to postpone/delay for sometime his handover date, so that we can
put forward for approval and implementation some of the ideas in the NBO. He declined,
claiming he liked the ideas in the NBO, but it came too late, as everything was set for the
handover and he did not want to renege on his words on the handover date, which to him was
sacrosanct. We respected his views and accepted what he said, but within me, l knew it wasn’t
his wish, he just didn’t want to offend the pressure group (cabal) in BAN, that would not want
the handover time table disrupted for any reason.
Also, during his Anchor Sally, past GEs met and reviewed the NBO, even if my thoughts in the
NBO with the summary as above stated were old, archaic and outdated, you don't throw away
the bath water with the baby, to date, nothing has happened, no minutes, no fall out.
However, Toni Toniho, was bold enough to institute the League of Long John Silver (LJS) during
his handover, which surprisingly was trailed by a lot of reactions and negative comments from
some uncomfortable Lords. We are all living witnesses of the ugly incident by way of direct
attack on the person of Toni Toniho, and the cyber sallying - "let the music go on" by a group of
Lords, after he successfully handed over to Pyton D Lona in 2011.
Man is a political being and because of the political power play in BAN, I want to believe that
my return to Deck and the idea of the New BAN Order (NBO) did not go down well with some
past GEs and senior Lords, for reasons best known to them, which was inadvertently voiced out
at a gathering of Legacy Lords in Alpha last year. As an Elder who wants peace within the rank
and file of BAN at all times, l wouldn't discuss it here.

Pyton D Lona Alpha (2011 - 2013) . From my perspective, his stay on the
Bridge was not that eventful, as the Stirrer when Toni Toniho was on the Bridge, he sort of
continued what they started together and also introduced his own agenda. He didn't have time
to look at the NBO, and did not call for LJS Mit, somehow he never sought opinion or accepted
views outside his kitchen cabinet. We were too distant from each other for very obvious
reasons and l did not have the privilege to attend any BAN activity when he was on the Bridge.
Unfortunately, he lost his Scroller on Active Service, l only hoped BAN did and is still doing
something for his family. Like some of the past GEs, he prosecuted his own personal Agenda
before he successfully handed over power to Oslo Kogito in 2013, without rendering his
financials till almost the end of his Successor's tenure.
Oslo Kogito Omicron (2013 - 2015) Being a relatively older Lord and a known
and long time vocal critic on Deck, he lived to expectation on the Bridge. His tenure was very
eventful and he outwardly achieved much for BAN, but in my opinion, he believed only in his
views and was always ready to kill or sanction opposing voices/views. He was a very hard
working GE with high level passion for the Adventure, and a goal getter, he put in place some
long term programs, but he was too high handed and overtly autocratic. As one of the
proponents of the Compass, which almost weakened the office of the GE and has democratized
BAN, he successfully got it passed like a political party bill at OSB Mit, Overall, he had very
robust ideas, brought sanity back to BAN, stopped the business as usual attitude and executed
some laudable projects, but a school of thought believed that he allowed the office and the
power to get the better of him in some of his cappings and actions with fellow Lords especially
the senior Lords. He inaugurated the Lorenzo Committee, a group of very old Lords (pre 1977)
and past GEs, to serve in advisory capacity to the GE. While he was on the Bridge, I was not
privileged to attend any of the activities viz: OSB Mits, Lorenzo Committee Mit, Anchor Sally,
etc, safe the maiden and volatile LJS Mit ever held, which minutes by commission or omission
failed to capture what actually transpired at the Mit He also raised the tenure of GEs from two
(2) to three (3) sagas. It was also during his sail that the two (2) founding fathers, Valla Lorenzo
and Ricca Ricardo passed on. He stood his ground as a powerful GE against the Legacy Lords
on the date for his Anchor sally and the Supreme Eye's burial, a situation which for the very first
time pitched me against the office of the GE, that l swore to protect and defend at all times.
When he would not bulge, l backed-off because of my respect for the GE's office and in the
interest of the Adventures, l made the Legacy Lords which l am a member, change their stand,
reason with him, accept his position and respect his office as GE, and he had his way.
He recovered and documented most of BAN's existing landed properties and acquired new
ones. He successfully Anchored and handed over to Vicious Amata in 2015.

Vicious Amata Sigma (2015 - Date). He is the incumbent, and he had the first
task of organising a successful and orderly burial for the Supreme Eye. What really impressed
me about the new GE, was his first gospel where he wrote about long term plans for BAN, l
don't know much about him and can't say much about him for now, even after attending my
first ever Lorenzo Committee Mit late last saga. l sincerely wish my GE a happy and successful
tenure in the interest of the Adventure.

Most past GEs were

not well tutored as Deck hands, and failed to prepare themselves or sought for knowledge in
the acts of buccaneering, before they became GE, likewise little or nothing was passed to them
by their predecessors, hence, they hid behind the unwritten constitution and their intelligence
to fiord through.
As a Buccaneer, and an Ex GE, cum my unalloyed passion for the Adventure, l am Ready, Able
and Willing (RWA) to use the last drop of my blood to fight for and protect the office of the GE,
but we should be careful with the type of Lords that become GE, once he gets there, there is no
remedy, even if he misbehaves or underperforms, we are stuck with him throughout his tenure,
he cannot be removed unless on account of confirmed insanity or death.

• Past GEs should be role models and be overboard in behaviour and character on and off
Deck. They should not get drunk, fight, talk recklessly, react unnecessarily or behave any how.
Likewise, its not all minor issues on Deck or on the forum that they should take up or react to.
• The League of Long John Silver (LJS) which is made up of only past GEs, should be up and
doing and live up to its advisory and corrective responsibilities. Since its inauguration in 2011, it
has only met once, with the then GE - Oslo Cogito in attendance. If the League of LJS can
meet independently at least once in a saga, it would help the GE in particular and BAN in
general to address and possibly correct some observed issues, viz: .
Resolving issues between the GE and any LJS. Resolving issues between
LJS members. Calling to order erring LJS member or found to have
crossed the line.

• We must show respect for the office of the GE at all times, likewise the GE should respect
fellow Lords, especially the OSBs, we are no more in School and shouldn't be ordered around
like fools or anyhow, otherwise we may get what we did not bargain for.
•BAN should teach all Lords the real creed, doctrines and lexicons,
• BAN needs to look at the high number of fingas cut annually by Salted Lords at Frigate,
Galleon and BAN levels. I agree that BAN needs Fingas for its numerous laudable projects, but
times are hard nationally and internationally, hence BAN may need to look for other ways and
means to raise funds for its projects. In the same vein, BAN should not be insensitive to the
plight of unemployed Salted Lords. •BAN should address the
high number of fingas required to join Buccaneers Confraternity as Deck Hands or as Salted
Lords and check the direct and indirect extortion of fingas from Deck hands by some Senior
Lords. •BAN should look back and right the
wrongs and bring culprits to book, to serve as deterrent to others. • The powers of
the office of the GE have been watered down; we should restore, promote and protect its
supremacy. • Most of us are getting old, we need to make
arrangement for medical checkup and screenings at major BAN activities for common and
prevalent old age sicknesses like Diabetics, Hypotension, Hepatitis, Pancreas cancer, etc, for
those who cannot afford it or may want to take advantage of the window.
•In real life, Lords do not relate with each other as Brodas, (except some few or those in the
same Clique), please lets show love to each other. At the slightest provocation, Lords use foul
and unimaginable languages for one another, and bear malice like women.
•We have allowed money politics and power play to permeate the very fabrics of BAN, It seems
like a Clique, (real or imaginary) has hijacked BAN – But we shall not allow it, BAN belongs to all
Lords. • We have lost some fine Buccaneers to kidney problems
due to over indulgence in alcohol. Please let us watch/reduce our alcohol intake.

My Brodas, according to William Shakespeare " The evil that men do lives after them, but the
good is often interred with their bones", which side of the divide are you, what will BAN say
about you. Lets take it from here, address the ills of the past, be open to sincere and
constructive criticisms and make amends where necessary and possible in order to secure a
better future for the Adventure we have passionately labored for.

MY VISION FOR BAN

This is the most important part of this Manuscript, the former part is educative and
informative. THE GRAND EYE.
The GE as the Chief Executive and Chief Propagator of the Adventure should be a General and
not a Commander, be of sound mind, strong personality, smart, responsible, responsive,
detribalized, highly intelligent, non-discriminatory, experienced, reliable, dynamic, cool headed,
listening, accommodating, peace loving, non violent, God fearing, an Achiever and a visionary,
who will not get involved in issues he cannot see his way through or put BAN in trouble.
We need a GE that is Competent not just being popular. We need a GE
that can deliver and an achiever, not just a sweet talker. We need a GE that will consider
the relevant provisions of the written constitution before he invokes the unwritten constitution.
We need a GE that would not use his office to settle old scores with any past GE or fellow Lords.

A Confraternity like BAN thrives on deep rooted structural traditions, values and consistency, it
is not everytime that we have a new GE on the Bridge that we have to jetting some of the old
and existing traditions or age long structures and bring in new structures/ideas as if we are a
mere social club.

NETWORKING. Existence of formidable Salted Lords in

responsible positions in all spheres of life and the strong bond of brotherhood amongst us
should be well annexed and exploited as the pivot for effective Networking which is one of the
benefits of a Buccaneer. We need to develop an efficient, effective, sustainable and enduring
networking program from the scratch with adequate logging of Lords and their positions

RESPECT AND SENIORITY Respect begets respect, l

agree that we are all equal on Deck, but it does not mean we should abuse this rare privilege,
young Lords should appreciate and respect Older Lords based on biological age or Deck age. We
are all Africans and mostly Nigerians, our custom and tradition demand that we respect Elders,
no matter their status in life.
THE NIGERIA PROJECT BAN does not have sufficient Lords in major
strategic Political , Military, Administrative. Managerial, Academic. Institutionalized and
important positions in the Country, that can influence Government policies in our favour, the
very few Lords in Government and Military don't even want to associate with BAN because of
our poor Public image and probably our operating style. BAN should have a ten (10) year
Rolling Plan to get Lords that are qualified, competent and show interest in some specific
public offices or positions in the Country and/or start breeding and placing young Lords in
positions that will put them in contention for consideration for top political, military or
administrative positions in future, just as was done for Northerners by the late Sir Ahmadu
Bello in the first Republic. This will help us influence policies in the
Country and strengthen our intra Confraternity networking to the advantage of members.

Our immediate focus should be to have at least the below stated number of Sallying and active
Lords as a minimum in the following positions within the next ten (10) sagas:
Military and Para-military (Brigadier and above). Army. = 6.
Navy. = 3. Air Force = 3.
Police. = 6. NCS. = 4.
NIS. = 4. NPS. = 4.
SSS. = 4. NSCDC. = 4

Federal Agencies - Director and above. NAFDAC. = 2.

The objective of the above is to help fellow Lords in our bid to reshape and keep Nigeria
together. We cannot do this from outside, we need Lords in the system if we have to fight
corruption, tribalism, ethnicism, nepotism, favouritism, injustice, neglect, violation, inequality,
discrimination, partiality. and to give the poor and oppressed a voice.

FAMILY BONDING: It is high time we carried our

immediate families along in whatever we do. It saddens to know that some Lords still hide their
membership/identity from their spouses and children. We can modernise the Shiptail and use it
as a forum to bring our families to interact on Deck at least once in a year or find some other
ways to integrate them. The way we behave at home or relate with those around us should be
a testament of what we really are as opposed to what the press portrays us to be. If we cannot
launder our image at home, then how can we convince the public. The way we treat our family
matters, part of our doctrines is to take care of and protect the weak, women, children, etc.
Then of what use to the Adventure or its image, is a Lord that constantly beats his wife,
abandons/neglects his family, always coming home late drunk etc.

OPERATION AREWA: It is high time we intensified our

efforts to float Decks and make our presence felt in the northern parts of the country, across
the Niger and Benue Rivers, We need to evolve a robust approach since we did not float Decks
in institutions there before the blanket ban on Campus Confraternities. We cannot change
things in Nigeria by confining ourselves to just the south, our honest intentions might be
misinterpreted or misunderstood. The culture and predominant religion in the north may be
perceived as a barrier, but we can start with the none core Islamic states like Benue, Plateau,
Taraba, Kaduna, Adamawa, before moving gradually upwards into the core Islamic States.

I appreciate that its is not going to be easy, but we should find a way to substitute our image,
tell them our mission and program for them and for the entireCountry, what they have been
missing or stands to gain, daggle carrots at their face and move in.

My vision is based on our long term goals of helping fellow Lords and others and to make our
country Nigeria and the world in general a better place. if the will is there and we are fully
committed, we will together move BAN forward.

Fellow Brodas, l close by saying that this Manuscript contains only what l was told, what l did,
what l knew, and my personal views, it is intended to inform, educate, guide, prepare Lords for
higher responsibilities in the future and assist in charting a course for our Buccaneering career.
In the unlikely event that any statement or particular event is inadvertently misrepresented or
distorted, please bear with me and don't take it personal, it is the much l could remember or
was told, such is not intended to hurt or defame any Lord's character.
