Flow Through A Nozzle
Flow Through A Nozzle
Flow Through A Nozzle
Objectives
To study the pressure distribution through a nozzle for a different exit pressures and different
flow rates
It is of varying cross sectional area, which decreases in the flow direction for subsonic flows
and increases for supersonic flows. When the fluid flows through a nozzle, the rate of heat
transfer between the flowing fluid and the surroundings is usually very small.
There is little or no change in potential energy, as well as the process involves no work
Let Pe be the exit pressure just at the exit cross-section of the nozzle. When

In the above relations, the absolute scale is used for temperature and pressure. Besides the
pressure is in Pa and R = 287 J/kg.K

Note that:
Manual Questions:
(1) The pressure variation with the distance along the nozzle (absolute values).
(2) The mass flow rate with the pressure ratio.
Note: the pressure ratio = back pressure / chest pressure.
