a. identify the meaning of the poem;
b. appreciates the poem through justifying the joy of having telephone; and
c. writes a reflection paper based on the poem read.

Materials: Laptop, TV
Learning competency: Determine the relevance of and the truthfulness of the
ideas presented in the material viewed.

B.1. Activity 1.1:

Tongue Twister

Students’ read in chorus.

Whether the weather is cold, whether the weather is hot,


we’ll weather the weather, whatever the weather.

The shells she sells are surely seashells. If she sells


shells on the seashore, I'm sure she sells seashore
shells.

Activity 1.2

Telephone

Read the poem telephone by Edward Field.

B.2. Analysis.

Student’s answer the following questions.


1. What does the tongue twister relay?
2. In the second activity, do you feel the same way with
the speaker about the telephone?

B.3. Abstraction.

Telephone

My happiness depends on an electric appliance


And I do not mind giving it so much credit
With life in the city being what it is
Each person separated from friends
By a tangle of subways and buses
Yes, my telephone is my joy
It tells me that I am in the world and wanted
It rings and I am alerted to love or gossip
I go comb my hair which begins to sparkle
Without it I was like a bear in a cave
Drowsing through a shadow winter
It rigs and spring has come
I stretched and amble out into the sunshine
For the human voice and the good news of friends

B.4. Application.

The students are going to be ask with the following question

1. How important is the telephone today?


2. Can you live without your telephone or cellular phone? Elaborate your
response.

IV. Evaluation:

The students’ answers the following question.

1. Gratitude

“My happiness depends on electric appliance. And I do not mind giving it


so much credit.”

1.1. Based on the poem, what is the feeling of the speaker in these lines?

2. List the feelings conveyed by the poem.

For item number 3.

With your group, write in the manila paper, explaining how the speaker
justifies his joy of having telephone, based on the line. After writing, a
representative per group will explain their answer in front of the class.

3. Pleasure
“Yes my telephone is my Joy
It tells me that I am in the world and wanted
It rings and I am alerted to love and gossip
I go to comb my hair which begins to sparkle”

4. Write a reflection paper based on the poem read.
