Title: Responsible use of media and information

I. Objectives:
After accomplishing this module, you must be able to:
1. discuss responsible use of media and information.

II. Material/s:
1. Notes for Media and information literacy.

III. Concept:

The characteristics of competent producers are; describes


how communication is affected by media and information,
identifies the similarities and differences of media literacy
and technology, editorialize the value of being a media and
information literate individual.

A responsible users should not post anything that contain


false news or issue. He /She should verify the source of news
he / she post or share. No one should post anything if it is
not necessary. Everyone should be kind ad not bashing or
fighting with others online. And being users of media and
information can be quite tricky. Here are some of the
characteristics of responsible users; first you have to know
how to use media righteously, second do not use media to
harm other people like bashing them. and the third is you
have to think about the social consequences of things you
are posting or sharing online.

ACTIVITY NO. 1
Read some examples of false news headlines found on the internet, and then analyze and evaluate the news. Answer the following
questions.
Guide questions:

1. Did you believe these news items were true? How did you know they were true/false? No, I figured that they were not true
because I search through reliable news sources online to find out whether they’re true or not, and according to those reliable
news sources, theyre not true.

2. Is all news and information on the Internet true? Why or why not? No, because not all news and information online are reliable
and some of the news online are only made by trolls.
3. Who gets to post news items online? Expound: Anyone can post news online as long as they have wi-fi or internet, but not
every post online are reliable news.

V. Assessment

Editorial Cartoon Analysis


In a piece of paper, write your analysis of the editorial cartoon shown below. How are you going to relate this to responsible
use of media and information in a democratic society?

The ignorant money near the cellular phone thinks that all knowledge online are fact or the truth. So the people
behind him who spread fake news online wants to make use of his ignorance. This relates to the responsible use of
media and information in a democratic society, because some people who are involved in politics sometimes try to
manipulate the media and spread fake news to take advantage of the ignorant people online.
