1.1 Instructions for Master and Crew before IW Survey

1) In advance, Master of the vessel to inform ship’s crew about date and time of the performance of IW survey.

2) For IW survey vessel must be on light draft condition and even keel as far as possible.

3) Vessel for survey to be positioned in sufficient clear and deep water without swell.

Weather condition should be good without wind.

4) Vessel to be fixed in position with own anchor/s or on buoy. If vessels will be on quay side,
fixed safety distance for divers to work between quay and side of vessel to be confirmed.
5) Master must ensure that divers will not be engaged by:
- Rotating propeller.
- Rudder movements.
- Effect of suction by underwater inlets.
- Boiler blow out from pipes and other outlets.
6) Following measures to be carried out to ensure above described 5 points:
- The main engine’s starting and control air is to be shut off and blocked.
- The main engine’s turning gear is to be engaged and “Do Not Start” signboard
to be hanged up on Turning Gear panel.
- Aux and exhaust gas boiler’s blow out lines are to be closed and secured.
- The cooling sea water system suction and discharge are to be switched over
to port side when conducting stbd side inspection and switched over to stbd
side when conducting the port side inspection.
- The power switches for the steering gear of the power system and the
emergency system is to be switched off.
- The power system of echo sounder is to be switched off.

- The power system of impress current system is to be switched off.

- All ballast and cargo operation is to be stopped.

- All discharging system other than cooling sea water are to be stopped, such as bilge, sewage, etc.

1.2 Instructions for Master and Crew during IW Survey
1) To endure the safety of divers during this work, following measures are to be
carried out by the crew during the time of IW survey.
- The “A” signal flag is to be hoisted.
- Continuous wireless communications between Master and Class surveyor and the divers are to be established.
- Continuous separate communication connection between Master and crew members assisting the diver’s crew.
- The vessel’s crew to assist divers during their work.
2) During the divers work on IW survey, following work are strictly forbidden.
- Lifting or lowering of the anchors.
- Lifting or lowering of vessel’s equipment or garbage.
- Ballast water operation.
- Loading or unloading operation of cargo or stores with ship’s gear or shore cranes.
- Bunkering operation.
- Working on life boat and/or rescue boat.
- Movement operation of vessel by tugs or own mooring equipment.
- Mooring operations of other vessels or barges alongside the vessel.
- Working on the sides of the vessel by crew or other workers.
1.3 Instructions for Divers before IW Survey

1) The divers must check mooring of the vessel, as well as water depth below the

vessel and give Master of the vessel agreement or comments for improvement.

2) Based on Class approved documents, class surveyor and divers to be informed

about vessel tank arrangement, equipment, etc.

3) Class surveyor and divers to be informed by Master if there is any shell damages
or “near” damages since last shell’s inspection of vessel for better understanding of diving inspection.
4) Class surveyor together with divers to inform Master about diving inspection plan.
5) Divers are responsible to give vessel’s crew members clear instruction.
6) Divers together with Class surveyor to check communication, monitoring and recording system.
