A. RATIONALE

The initiative, "Ambag sa Malinis na Kapaligiran," is driven by a profound recognition of

the critical interplay between environmental cleanliness and the well-being of Barangay Duhat,

Santa Cruz. This project is multifaceted, encompassing the imperative to safeguard community

health by reducing the risk of diseases associated with unclean surroundings. In alignment with

global sustainability goals, the project addresses the need for responsible environmental

practices, aiming to preserve biodiversity, manage resources sustainably, and contribute to

climate change mitigation. By engaging NSTP students in community service, the initiative

seeks to educate and instill a sense of civic responsibility, fostering a collective commitment

to community well-being. Furthermore, the project envisions long-term behavioral change,

aspiring to cultivate daily habits such as litter picking and recycling that can positively impact

the community's cleanliness culture. As an embodiment of civic engagement, the project not

only seeks immediate cleanliness improvements but also aims to create a visually appealing

and recreational environment that instills community pride. Overall, the "Ambag sa Malinis na

Kapaligiran" lies in the conviction that a clean and sustainable environment is foundational for

the health, vibrancy, and enduring prosperity of Barangay Duhat.

B. OBJECTIVES

GENERAL OBJECTIVES: This program aims to improve the cleanliness of

Barangay Duhat, Santa Cruz from its streets to its residents and promote a sense of

community.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

• To encourage people to have a cleaner street and create a distinct appreciation

for the clean environment

• To endorse recycling as an easy and achievable thing to do

• To improve the cleanliness in the area

• To prevent the diseases caused by improper disposal

C. PROJECT DESCRIPTION

A. BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT

Pursuant to the goals stated in Republic Act 9163, otherwise known as the National

Service Training Program Law (NSTP Law), this course introduces students to the

importance of civic consciousness by discussing nationalism, patriotism, social

responsibility, servant leadership, and good citizenship values as relevant concepts in

community service. It encourages activities that benefit the community's overall well-

being and quality of life. It also aims to help students understand their critical role in

nation building by increasing their involvement in public and civic affairs through

awareness and participation in various advocacies and community service activities

based on their abilities. The knowledge and insights gained from this course will help

them prepare for greater community engagement during their training.

This course introduces students to the various concepts of Civic Welfare Training

Services by developing and implementing community service programs/activities that

can contribute to the general welfare and betterment of life of community members,

particularly in health, education, livelihood, pastoral, self-governance, and disaster

preparedness.

B. JUSTIFICATION OF THE PROJECT

According to the World Health Organization (2016), a clean environment is a

fundamental determinant of health, as it reduces the risk of communicable diseases,

supports overall well-being, and contributes to achieving sustainable development

goals. The organization emphasizes the need for global cooperation in addressing

environmental challenges to ensure that communities worldwide have access to clean

air, water, and sanitation, promoting a healthier and more equitable world. Here are

some of the reasons why the clean environment is important.

• Human Health: A clean environment directly impacts human well-being.

Reduced air and water pollution minimizes the risk of respiratory diseases,

waterborne illnesses, and other health issues. Clean surroundings contribute to

a healthier population, lowering healthcare costs and improving overall quality

of life.

• Biodiversity Preservation: A pristine environment supports diverse ecosystems.

Clean habitats provide a suitable environment for various plant and animal
species to thrive. Biodiversity is essential for ecosystem resilience, ensuring

that natural processes such as pollination, pest control, and nutrient cycling

remain intact.

• Clean environments are essential for the sustainable management of natural

resources. By minimizing pollution and adopting responsible practices, the

project ensures that resources like clean water, fertile soil, and biodiversity are

preserved for future generations. This approach promotes sustainable

development and prevents resource depletion.

• Climate Change Mitigation: A clean environment plays a crucial role in

mitigating climate change. Controlling emissions, preserving forests, and

adopting sustainable practices help reduce the impact of human activities on the

climate. This, in turn, contributes to global efforts to combat rising temperatures

and related environmental challenges.

• Enhanced Aesthetic and Recreational Value: Clean environments enhance the

aesthetic appeal of landscapes and provide recreational spaces for communities.

Accessible and well-maintained natural areas offer opportunities for outdoor

activities, fostering a sense of well-being and community engagement.

Overall, a clean environment is not just a matter of aesthetics; it is a prerequisite

for a healthy, thriving, and sustainable future. By prioritizing clean practices, safeguard

human health, preserve biodiversity, manage resources responsibly, mitigate climate

change, and create spaces for communities to flourish. It is imperative that they

collectively embrace and implement initiatives to ensure a clean environment,

recognizing its far-reaching benefits for current and future generations.

C. BENEFITS DERIVED FROM THE PROJECT

CWTS students of STI College Santa Cruz have gotten the bigger picture for

making this cleaning drive possible. Unbeknown to most residents and people of

Barangay Duhat Santa Cruz, Laguna, they are neglecting the cleanliness of the streets

and making the roads hard to walk and drive on.

With the clean drive, the students enrolled in CWTS NSTP would do it for 3 days

for the barangay, making the streets cleaner and more pleasant.

These possible benefits of the project, a bonus benefit would be the promotion of

cleanliness and tidiness to many people, possibly encouraging them to take better care

of their surroundings and their neighborhood. This alone would be beneficial in the

long run, as it can be passed down and learned easily by observers and children, not

necessarily doing clean-up drives, but in the general sense, where it starts at home.

D. COVERAGE

This program is to help address the concerns within the community, specifically

issues related to cleanliness. This project can help the people in our chosen barangay

to be responsible with their teamwork to improve their barangay and to enhance their

social responsibility and progress. Due to not being clean in Sitio Matahimik, there's a

lot of garbage around the road, so the NSTP students clean up the clutter to reduce it.

Next is the Sitio Bagong Lipunan, which has a pile of dry leaves and garbage near the

road. NSTP students clean it to look good, and there is no pile again. Lastly, the Sitio

Maunlad is the court and playground that need to be cleaned, especially for the kids
that will play here; they can see the cleanliness. It was decided that students who

enrolled in CWTS NSTP will be taught to help, but not only the students of STI Santa

Cruz who volunteer to clean but also the residents of the Barangay Duhat to make their

work easier because NSTP students prove the cleaning to three included streets, which

are Sitio Matahimik, Bagong Lipunan, and Maunlad. The clutter around the road is

clean, and we're adding to the community the "Ambag Sa Malinis Na Kapaligiran,"

which they need to follow for their barangay to help them by maintaining the

cleanliness and avoiding piles of garbage or dry leaves that can cause dengue. The

cleaning project will be done here, but only in the area of Barangay Duhat Santa Cruz.

As shown here, cleanliness is important, especially in areas that have piles of garbage.

Reduce them to maintain cleanliness. So, the results of the cleaning project will be

worth it, and the residents who live here in Barangay Duhat and the people who visit

here will like the cleanliness of the place, and they can't see the pieces of clutter because

the residents here are maintaining the cleanliness. So in short, a community of "Ambag

sa Malinis Na Kapaligiran" is followed by the residents of barangay Duhat and always

maintains cleanliness around the area.

V. METHODOLOGY

To initiate the training, a group of ten CWTS students will embark on the project

titled "Ambag sa Malinis na Kapaligiran: A Community Extension Program in Barangay

Duhat, Santa Cruz, Laguna." This initiative will cover various areas within Barangay Duhat

and will span 3 days, with each day requiring a commitment of 3 hours, totaling 9 hours of

duty. The project is scheduled to commence on January 20, 2024, and conclude on January

22, 2024. The first day concentrates on immediate action, addressing cleanliness concerns
in Sitio Matahimik through street cleaning, proper waste disposal, and the establishment of

recycling stations. This swift intervention aims to generate an instant positive impact. The

second day extends activities to Sitio Bagong Lipunan, emphasizing the continuation of

street cleaning, proper waste disposal, and reinforcing recycling infrastructure. On the third

day, activities progress to Sitio Maunlad, intensifying street-cleaning efforts, ensuring

meticulous waste disposal, and expanding recycling stations. The culmination on January

22, 2024, involves a continuation of activities in Sitio Maunlad, ensuring a thorough and

comprehensive cleaning approach. This well-structured approach ensures the active

contribution of the ten students to both immediate and enduring improvements in

cleanliness and environmental health in Barangay Duhat.
