Reading
D Read the article. Six sentences have been removed from the text. Choose from the
extracts A-H the one which fits each gap. There are two extracts you do not need to use.
One has been done as an example.

Anywhere, anytime!
With the rise of Internet shopping, people have become used to being able to buy whatever they want whenever
they want it, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. However, receiving your purchase after paying isn’t always as
quick. That is, until now…
We’ve all experienced it; finding the perfect gift or item online at a brilliant price, only to fall victim to delivery delays,
long processing times and hold ups with couriers. 0 B Such a service would make even next day delivery a thing
of the past!
This is exactly what some online retailers are currently researching and hoping to provide via floating warehouses
and drones. Although it sounds like something out of a science-fiction movie, the technology already exists and a
viable system could be with us sooner than we think. But how would it work? It may sound quite far-fetched;
however, the basic principle is actually quite simple. 1 This would be confirmed via your IP address or
(especially via mobile devices) your GPS location. The item would then be loaded onto fully automated drones, and
flown to your position in a matter of minutes. 2
The remarkable thing about these plans is that they aren’t just ideas on paper. 3 Recently, one online delivery
specialist tested the system in the UK to selected locations with a lot of success. And it’s not only retailers that are
looking into the possibilities of robotic deliveries. Take away food companies are also keen to get in on the action,
with pizza restaurants considering using drones to send pizzas quite literally ‘oven fresh’ within moments! 4
As exciting as all this sounds, there are still many barriers currently in place that prevent it from becoming a
common or widespread occurrence. 5 Retailers are finding that the strict rules around drone use and flying in
urban areas are making it impractical and unfeasible to realise their hi-tech vision. As promising as delivery trials
have been, until legislators and authorities agree on the details, it seems that the next big customer service
revolution will stay firmly on hold. However, one day you just might find that the next courier who rings at your door
is a robot and not a postman!
