METHOD OF TEACHING ISLAMIC STUDIES

*ACTIVITY METHOD:
Active learning in an Islamic educational context involves engaging students in the process of
acquiring knowledge while adhering to Islamic principles and values.
Key aspects of active learning in an Islamic context:

1. Set Clear Learning Objectives:

Begin by defining specific learning objectives that align with both the subject matter and
Islamic values. Ensure that the goals promote not only academic knowledge but also

typically includes defining objectives, planning, executing the project and reflecting on the
experience to enhance understanding. It’s an effective way to promote critical thinking, collaboration,

Choose a project with the learning objectives and the subject matter. It should be something that

as the life of Muhammad, the early caliph or the spread Of Islam They can present their
findings through reports, presentation Or poster.
2. QURANIC STUDIES:
Project can focus on interpretation of (Tafsir) of specific Quranic verses and chapters.
Student can develop into the historical context.
3. ISLAMIC ART:
Student can explore the rich tradition of Islamic art through project that involves
Researching famous Islamic moments.

Depending on the location student can engage in Fieldwork, visiting local mosques, Islamic

5. Islamic literature:
Project can revolve around the study of classical and contemporary Islamic literature, including

*STORY TELLING METHOD:


Storytelling method is an effective teaching method that can be used in various subjects,
including islamiat (the study of Islam)

Choose a story or narrative from Islamic history or literature that relates to the topic or
lesson you want to teach.
2. Understand the message:

subject matter.

Relate the story’ lesson to the curriculum objectives and content, highlighting it’s
importance in understanding Islamiat.
4. Application:
Encourage students to apply the lesson learned from the story to real -life situations or
examples from the subject matter.

Assess students understanding and retention of the story’s message through quizzes,
discussion or assignment.
6. Reinforcement:
Reinforce the story message in future lesson or discussion emphasizing its ongoing

*ART OF EDUCATION:

The Importance of Education in the light of Quran:

In Islam, education is highly valued, and the Quran provides guidance on the principles
and concepts of education. Here are some key aspects of education in the light of the
Quran:

• SEEKING KNOWLEDGE:
The Quran encourages believers to seek knowledge and understanding. The very first
word revealed to the Prophet Muhammad was “Iqra” (Read), highlighting the
significance of reading and learning.
“Read in the name of your Lord who created . He created man from a clinging
substance,” is from Surah Al-Alaq verse no 1.
• SHARING KNOWLEDGE:
Acquire education and impart it to the people.
• KNOWLEDGE IS A GIFT:
The most complete gift of Allah is a life based on education.
• NEVER ENDING BENEFIT:
Everything diminishes when it is used except education.
• BEST COMBINATION:

“AL QURAN”
Surah Al- Zumr, ayah 9 reveals. “Are those equal, those who know and those who do not
know?”
Surah Al-Baqarah , ayah 269 reveals. “Allah gants wisdom to whom. He pleases and to
whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefits.”
We should get both Islamic and Scientific education. We need to hold Islamic values
tightly in order to get stronger. Everyone of us should atleast aquire sufficient
education to understand the teaching of Quran and the main purpose for which we
have been sent down to the earth.
“KNOWLEDGE IS POWER”

Importance of Education in the light of Sunnah:

• THE NECESSITY OF KNOWLEDGE:


The seeking of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslims. (Ibn Majah)

• SHARING THE TREASURE:


Aquire education and impart it to the people.
“The best of you are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it to others.” (Bukhari)

• KNOWLEDGE IS A GIFT:
The most complete gift of Allah is a life based on education.

• NEVER ENDING BENEFIT:


Everything diminishes when it is used except education.

• BEST COMBINATION:
No two things have been combined together better than Education & Patience.

• DUA FOR KNOWLEDGE:


The Prophet Muhammad encouraged supplicating to seek knowledge:
“O Allah! Increase me in knowledge.” (Tirmidhi)

According to Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrated
that the Messenger of Allah (S) said:

“A single scholar of religion is more formidable against shaytaan than a thousand devout
persons.”

The following ahadith shows how important and how rewarding knowledge is.

“He who aquires knowledge aquires a vast portion.” AND “If anyone going on his way in
search of knowledge, God will, thereby make easy for him the way to paradise.”

*LECTURE METHOD:
A lecture is an excellent method for presenting information to a large number of a
students in a short period of time. It is very old method of teaching. The holy Quran uses
lecture method in his teaching. Hazrat Muhammad (SUAW) also use this method in
HIJA_ UL-WIDA. This method is old almost 1400 to 1500 years.

ADVANTAGES:
• This method develop concentration in students.
• It is an economical teaching strategy.
• Teaching activities are dominated by the teacher.
• It provide current information from many sources.
• It provide a summary or synthesis of information from different sources.

DISADVANTAGES:

• The lecture method lends little emphasis on problem solving, decision making,
analytical thinking or transfer of learning.
• It is not conducive to meeting students individual needs.
• This method brings with it the problems of limited attention span on the part of
the learners.
• The lecture does not allow the instructor estimate student understanding easily
as the material is covered.

*COOPERATIVE LEARNING
Cooperative learning is a process in which students work together in a small groups. The
members of the group learn to work as a team to complete a task or to develop a product. It’s
suitable for class 4 to 8. This method is also use as a technique.

Elements of cooperative learning:

• Positive Interdependence
• Individual Accountability

Significance of cooperative learning:


• All students are active learner.
• Build positive relationship among students.
• Develop good learning skills and social skills.
• Students learn to collaborate with others.

Use of Cooperative learning in Teaching of Islamiat:


Islamiat is a subject in which this teaching method can be used very effectively. For example:

1. If you teach the topic of wadu, divide the students in group and ask them to perform the
stepe of wadu in school. Or you can ask them to write the steps on a chart paper and draw the
pictures of the step.
2. If you teach the topic of Salah, divide the students in a small group and demonstrate them
the step of offering Salah and ask them to draw pictures of each step and write the steps in
their notebook.
3. If you teach the topic of fasting (Roza) divide the students in groups and ask them to bring
some fruits and juices for iftar party.
4. While teaching the topic of zakat, divide the students in group and ask them to bring some
money as charity and also discuss the importance of giving charity in groups. You can also make
them collect Charity from other classes and give them to the needy people.

*REPETITION METHOD
The repetition method is important for teaching Islamic studies as it has reinforce
key information and concepts allowing student to better understand and retain
the teaching of Islam. by repeating and revenge material student can develop a
strong foundation India knowledge of Islamic principles and practices.

IMPLEMENTATION OF REPETITION METHOD:


Repetition method can be used in several base for teaching Islamic studies
1.RECITATION:
Encourage students to recite and memorize was from the Quran as well as
important hadiths and supplications.
2.REVIEW:
Regularly review previously covered material to reinforce understanding and
retention of Islamic concepts and teaching.
3.PRACTICE:
Provide opportunities for students to apply their knowledge through practical
exercise discussion and real life scenarios.
4.REFLECTION AND DISCUSSION:
Engage students in reflective discussion to depeen. there understanding of Islamic
principles and critical thinking.

Remember, repetition should be balanced with other teaching methods to create


a comprehensive and engaging learning experience in Islamic studies.

*TRANSLATION METHOD
The translation method is an approach to language teaching and learning that
focuses on translating words, phrases, and sentences from one language to
another. This method was popularized during the Grammar-Translation Era,
which was prominent in the 18th and 19th centuries. It was particularly used for
teaching classical languages like Latin and Greek.

Key features of the translation method include:

Vocabulary and Grammar Translation: Students learn vocabulary and grammar


rules through translation exercises. They often translate sentences or passages
from the target language (the language being learned) to the native language and
vice versa.

Focus on Written Language: Emphasis is placed on reading and writing skills


rather than speaking and listening. This method is more concerned with formal,
written language.

Literal Translation: The translations are often literal, aiming to preserve the
structure and meaning of the original text.

Grammar Rules Emphasis: The method heavily emphasizes the rules of grammar,
and students learn the grammar of the target language by analyzing and
translating sentences.

Literal Understanding: Students are encouraged to understand the literal


meaning of words and sentences in both the target and native languages.

No Emphasis on Communication: Unlike communicative language teaching


methods, the translation method does not prioritize communication or natural
conversation in the target language.

It's important to note that while the translation method was widely used in the

practical communication and real-life language use. These approaches often
encourage active participation, interaction, and meaningful communication in the
target language.
