Lesson Proper

Okay so today, we discuss about the

four types of evidence but before that Evidence- Is the information that helps in the
kindly read the slide Jane. formation of a conclusion or judgement.
- They’re all the things you say to try and
support your claims.

Thank you!
Evidence is the information or facts you
present to back up your claims or
assertions.

Now, let’s proceed to the types of 1. STATISTICAL EVIDENCE

evidence, first kindly read Christian. - It is known as the strongest type of
evidence. It comes in a form of number,
percentage, or surveyed type data.

Examples:
-75% of women in Tayabas City…
-8 out of 10 pediatricians recommend…
-16 members of the legislative agreed
upon…

Thank you!
Statistical evidence is strong because
it's based on numbers, percentages, or
survey data, offering clear, quantifiable
support for arguments or conclusions.

Another examples:
- A study showing that 80% of
students who participate in
extracurricular activities have higher
academic performance compared to
those who do not.
-An analysis showing that 90% of
accidents in a certain area occur at a
particular intersection. 2. TESTIMONIAL EVIDENCE
Let’s proceed to the next slide, kindly -Use of celebrities is the core of this
read Ann. second type of evidence. However, experts
and authorities can also be used to collect
testimonial evidence.

Examples:
-Heart Evangelista, a well-known actress
and fashion buff, recommends that Olay
lotion is good on our skin.
-Anne Curtis, a well-known actress
recommends that this shampoo smoothens
our hair.
- This toothpaste brand will make your
teeth whiter and your breath fresher, Dr.
Ong.

Thank you!
Testimonial evidence relies on the
endorsement or statements of
individuals, including celebrities,
experts, or authorities, to support a
claim or argument.

Okay, so another type, kindly read 3. ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE

James. -It is often dismissed as untrustworthy and
meaningless. When the speaker does
storytelling, anecdotal evidence is utilized.

Examples:
-After living for decades in Quezon, I can
honestly say that the people there are kind
and hospitable.
- I have seen my classmate struggle from
bullying. There are lots of words they have
to hear and take every day. We must stop
bullying and start treating each other
equally.

Thank you, James!

Anecdotal evidence relies on personal
stories or individual experiences to
support a claim. However, it's often
considered unreliable and inconclusive
because it's based on limited anecdotes
rather than comprehensive data or
research.

Another examples:
-A person claiming that they quit
smoking and lived to be 100 years old,
suggesting that quitting smoking leads
to a longer life.
-Someone sharing a story about how
they lost weight by following a specific
diet plan, implying that the diet is
effective for everyone.

For the last type of evidence, kindly 4. ANALOGICAL EVIDENCE

read Joy. -t is regarded as the weakest evidence.
When information about something is
scarce and little is known, analogical
evidence is often used in a formal
argument to increase credibility of the
proof.
Examples:
-If we are going to ban firearms, we
should also ban cars because they cause
many more deaths than firearms do.
-My boyfriend cheated on me, that’s why
all men are cheater.

Thank you!
Analogical evidence draws comparisons
between similar situations to support
an argument when direct evidence is
lacking. However, it's considered weak
because it relies on similarities between
unrelated cases, making it less reliable
than other forms of evidence.

Another examples:
-If we're going to restrict access to
sugary drinks due to health concerns,
we should also restrict access to fast
food, as it poses similar health risks
and contributes to obesity.
-Just as we regulate the sale of alcohol
to prevent drunk driving accidents, we
should regulate the sale of video
games to prevent addiction and violent
behavior in children.

Keep in mind…
Developing Mastery

activity, I have a question to you class.
