A Reaction Paper About Aftershock (2022)

The storyline of the film "Aftershock" is very interesting and

inspiring and it has a strong connection with nurses. It is essential for
nursing students to analyze the problems the movie raises and
consider the lessons it teaches.

The avoidable deaths of Omari Maynard and Bruce McIntyre's

partners are among the film's primary issues. The movie calls into
question, among other things, the effectiveness of prenatal care, the
accessibility of emergency obstetric facilities, and the standard of
patient-provider communication.

The documentary also discusses the problem of maternal health

in the United States, focusing especially on the disproportionately high
death rates of women of color in the Black and Brown communities. It
encourages us to investigate the social aspects of health, which can
have a big influence on people's ability to get high-quality healthcare.
These include racism, poverty, and unconscious bias.

As a nursing student, the experiences outlined in "Aftershock"

have the possibility to significantly affect how I treat patients. First of
all, the movie makes me appreciate the value of empathy and
attentive listening. I can establish a stronger bond with patients and
give them treatment that is specific to their needs and situations by
really listening to and comprehending their tales and experiences.

The significance of lifelong learning and staying up to date on

evidence-based methods is also emphasized in the movie. I can give
my patients the most modern and efficient treatment possible by
staying up to speed on the latest research and best practices in
maternal healthcare. This entails being informed on the most recent
recommendations for treating and avoiding difficulties during delivery
as well as the societal factors of health that may have an effect on a
patient's quality of life.

All things considered, "Aftershock" is an important reminder of

the influence that nurses may have on their patients' lives. It
motivates me to treat patients with kindness, cultural understanding,
and a dedication to advancing health equality. I may aspire to be a
nurse who not only offers excellent care but also fights for structural
changes that will enhance everyone's overall health outcomes by
taking lessons from the situations shown in the movie.
