SECTION-E
Question no. 37 to 39 are case-based/data-based questions with 2 to 3 short sub-parts. Internal choice is provided in
one of these sub-parts.

37. Those change in which no new substances are formed, are called physical changes. In density, melting point,
substances involved do not change their identity. They can be easily returned to their original form by some
physical process. This means that physical change can be easily reversed to from the original substance. The
changes in physical state, size and shape of a substance are called physical changes.
Those changes in which new substance are formed, are called chemical change. A chemical change is also called
a chemical reaction. In a chemical change the substance involved, change their identity. They get converted into
entirely new substance. The new substance usually cannot be returned to their original form. This means that
chemical changes are usually irreversible.

(i) What is the name of the given diagram?

(ii) Which of the two structures are not found in above cell?
(iii) What is the function of part labelled as 1?
 o

39. Scientists define energy as the ability to do work. Modern civilization is possible because people have learned how
to change energy from one form to another and then use it to do work. People use energy to walk and bicycle, to
move cars along roads and boats through water, to cook food on stoves, to make ice in freezers, to light our homes
and offices, to manufacture products, and to send astronauts into space.
There are many different forms of energy, including heat, light, motion, electrical and chemical.
These forms of energy can be grouped into two general types of energy for doing work: potential energy and kinetic
energy.
Energy can be converted from one form to another. For example, the food a person eats contains chemical energy,
and a person’s body stores this energy until he or she uses it as kinetic energy during work or play. The stored
chemical energy in coal or natural gas and the kinetic energy of water flowing in rivers can be converted to
electrical energy, which in turn can be converted to light and heat.
(i) Which type of energy is possessed due to motion of object?
(ii) Write an expression for the kinetic energy of an object.
(iii) What kind of energy transformation takes place when a body is dropped from a certain height?
 o
(iv) What law is conservation of energy?
