ABBREVIATIONS:
“Incl” shall signify “include or included”.
“Excl” shall signify “exclude or excluded”.
(1) The percentage of phosphorus, sulfur and selenium shall be any one of the following combinations with the
stipulation that EMPIS Materials B7A13A2, A3 and C shall be selenium free:
a- Sulfur 0.15 - 0.40 with phosphorus 0.04 maximum.
b- Selenium 0.15 - 0.40, with phosphorus 0.20 maximum, and sulfur 0.04 maximum.
c- Sulfur 0.10 max, with phosphorus 0.17 max, and with total of phosphorus and sulfur not less than 0.18.
d- Sulfur 0.10 max, with phosphorus 0.17 max, with selenium 0.15 - 0.35.
(2) Optional with manufacturer.
(3) Molybdenum 0.60 max, at manufacturer's option.
The heat analysis (formerly ladle analysis) made by the manufacturer to determine the percentages of the elements
required under this specification shall be reported to the purchaser or his representative in a certificate of test when
specified on purchase order or otherwise.
A product analysis (formerly check analysis) may be made by the purchaser from a sample representing each melt. The
chemical composition thus determined shall conform to the requirements of this specification within the AISI standard
permissible variation for product analysis.

TOLERANCES:
Diameter, thickness and width: (B7A13A2, A22)
Hot-rolled rounds and squares:
(5) Out-of-round shall be the difference between the maximum and minimum diameters of the bar, measured at
the same cross section.
(6) Out-of-square shall be the difference in the two dimensions at the same cross section of a square bar, each
dimension being the distance between opposite faces.
(7) Size tolerances for rounds in the size range of 1/4 to 5/16 inch, inclusive, and for rounds in the size range of
1/4 inch to approximately 5/8 inch which shall be produced on rod mills in coils, are not shown.
(8) Variations in size of coiled product made on rod mills shall be greater than size tolerances for product made on
bar mills.
(9) Squares in this size shall not be produced as hot-rolled product.
