MODULE 3

ICT - information and communications technology

1. SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS - This platform allows account creation for sharing
content and connecting with others, like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

2. BLOGGING PLATFORMS - Blogging platforms like Blogger enable writers to share


views on subjects with customizable designs and multimedia, perfect for sharing ideas online.

3. CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (CMS) - This platform allows website publishing


and content management locally, with WordPress being a popular CMS example.

1. TEXT - Text on a webpage is essential, but visitors can get distracted by font choices. When
designing your site, choose fonts carefully for clarity and readability.

3. WHITE SPACE - having a crowded website, it is very hard to direct the attention of your
vistor's eye. These white space gives your website a room to breathe.

4. LIKS - links or hyperlinks allows user to jump to another site or page that is related of to
your site.

5. COLOR – Choose colors wisely for your design as they can distract viewers. Some designers
use the client's logo colors as a reference for website design.

6. VIDEO/AUDIO- Some websites use audio/video to aid understanding of their content,


particularly tutorials, benefiting visitors.

7. BACKGROUND - texture or background gives a more appealing sight to your


website. This will provide your website a feeling of a surface underneath.
BASIC PRINCIPLE OF AN EFFECTIVE WEB DESIGN

A. Portable Design - Design your website to be compatible across different platforms and
devices, ensuring accessibility for all users.

B. Design for low Bandwidth - Consider users with slow internet connections when designing
your website; avoid large graphics or animations to prevent them from leaving due to slow
loading times.

C. Direction - Arrange elements by importance for effective visual flow, ensuring consistent
layout.

D. Simplicity - "Simplicity is key": Limiting options on your site helps visitors make quicker
decisions, avoiding overwhelm.

E. Regular Testing - Regularly maintain and upgrade your website to swiftly resolve issues and
ensure optimal performance. Visitors won't wait if they encounter errors or loading problems.

Web Page is a document on the World Wide Web accessible via browsers like Firefox,
Chrome, Edge, or Safari. It can include text, graphics, sound, video, and animation.

"WYSIWYG" stands for "what you see is what you get." Some website design tools offer this
feature, allowing content to be edited in a form that closely resembles its final appearance.

HTML is stands for Hypertext Markup Language

1. Wix - Wix has an intuitive, powerful interface with standout features like online storage,
video backgrounds, animations, and mobile capabilities.

2. Weebly - This free website builder allows you to build beautiful websites in a very short
period of time – even if you do not have any programming background.
3. WordPress - is the world's leading website creation tool, capable of building anything from a
blog to a full business website, including online stores.

How to create Wix?


1. Create an account on www.wix.com

2. Click create site

3. Choose other

4. You will be instructed to choose a template. Click Choose a Template.

5. Pick any template that you want. Choose categories and click any templates.

6. Your website will be generated and soon you will end up in the site’s Wix editor.

7. It is now time to edit the website to your liking.

8. Click Edit and create your own amazing website.

9. You can click Preview in order to see the design before saving the website.

10. Once you are done editing and click Save and choose Save & Continue.

11. You can click Edit and type the filename. Click done to publish the website.

MAPPING APPLICATION

Web mapping apps use GIS data to create and visualize maps, now used for directions, tracking
consumer activity, and locating stores.

1. Google Maps - Google Maps is a web mapping app showing graphic and satellite maps with
street names, building names, and more. Extensions offer 3D views and traffic updates

2. Wikimapia - Wikimapia is an open-content mapping app providing satellite views of streets,


buildings, and establishments, powered by Google Maps APIs.

Basic Principles of Graphics and Layout

The elements and principles of design are the building blocks of a successful beautiful
design. The elements of design are the things or tools that make up a design while the
Principles of design are what we do to those elements.

Elements of Design - Elements of Design are the materials or tools to


make different designs or Arts.
Line – Lines are defined by points moving in space.
Shape – Shape refers to the area that an object occupies
Direction – Applying motion to create the visual illusion of movement.
Size (scale) – Size is basically the relationship of the area occupied by
one shape to that of another.
Texture – Texture refers to surface appearance of an object given by
the dimensions, form, thickness, arrangement, and amount of its basic
parts. Color – Color is light redirected off objects
Principles of Design - Principles of Design are the rules that help you
organize and place the materials to make arts or designs.
Balance – Balance in design is the state of equal relationship
Symmetrical balance occurs when identical weights are on equal sides
of a composition.
Asymmetrical balance occurs when a design have unequal graphic
weight on either side, but those unequal graphics need to balance each
other (un-evenly balanced). Radial balance occurs when the design
elements swirl out from a central axis
(emanating from a central point)
Proximity – Proximity maintains a relationship between items that go
together. Alignment – Alignment refers to lining up the elements of a
design along the top, bottom, center or sides of the elements.
Repetition, pattern, and rhythm – Repetition duplicates the
characteristics of similar elements to contribute to design consistency.
CONTRAST – Contrast refers to the use of conflicting elements or
colors while still remaining harmonious and unified when the artwork is
viewed as a whole.
SPACE – Space is the part of a design that is left blank.
Infographic -The term Information graphic or Infographic is a
photographic presentation of data and information that use the different
elements of design to make data easily understandable at a glance.
Photo editing Tool - Photo editing Tool and designing software allow
you to manipulate or edit images.
Image file format - Image file format refers to how data associated to
the image will be stored. It can be compressed to decrease file size of
the image.
Lossy compression- Lossy compression reduces file size by removing
redundant information means that some data from the image file is lost.
Lossless compression - Lossless compression retains values and
manages to lower file size.
Image resolution - Image resolution refers to the number of pixels in an
image or the detail an image holds.
Pixel - Pixel is just one unit of the whole digital image it is the smallest
unit of an image. Gimp - GIMP is a cross-platform image editor
available for GNU/Linux, OS X, Windows and more operating systems.
