• Geographical location? (valley, island, continent)

• Politically defined? (city, county, state, country)

• A site with a common name (Ex. Half Moon Beach, Edge of the World)

• Attraction? (Disney World)

• Mode of transportation? (Ex. cruise ship)

• Accommodation? (Durat Alaroos, Atlantas resort)


The Definition of a Destination

Definition: A geographic area, which might be as small as a city precinct or as large


as a continent.

The destination encompasses:


v Primary Attraction of the area (ex. Niagara Falls in Canada, Disney World
in Orlando, Madain Saleh in Al-Ula)
v The infrastructure (e.x. accommodations and roads) for tourists and others;
v The range of activities offered there (Ex. Museums tours, Parks tour)
v The host community and resources (Ex. Culture, heritage)
