The two wheels at the rear are used for steering while the two drive wheels at the front are non-
steering. The two front wheels have an integral gearbox and hydraulic motor assembly. Push jacks are
an option that can be mounted on the Transporter adjacent to each front wheel assembly. The two
push jacks must be extended in conjunction with the reverse drive function to ease the feed chute away
from the mill.
1. Torsion beam
5. Operator Console
The rear torsion beam assembly also supports the travel drive console for use when the Transporter is
being driven up to or away from the mill. The Transporter power pack is also attached to the middle rear
of this torsion beam.
1. Left hand side leg structure – fabricated from steel and has provision for mounting the left
hand push off jack underneath the front end. The two left hand side lifting jacks and front
drive wheel assemblies are also mounted on this leg.
2. Right hand side leg structure – fabricated from steel and has provision for mounting the right
hand push off jack underneath the front end. The two right hand side lifting jacks and front
drive wheel assemblies are also mounted on this leg.
3. Rear centre torsion beam – joins the left and right leg assemblies and has the operator’s
console and power pack mounted on it. The rear steering axle is also mounted in its centre,
on the front side.
4. Rear steering axle support – allows the rear axle to pivot at its centre to maintain secure
contact of all four wheels with the floor, even on slightly uneven surfaces. Axle pivot limit
stops are also fitted.
5. Rear steering axle cover – to protect the axle pivot and steering assemblies from debris
which may jam them.
7. Jack covers – each of the four lift jacks has a cover for protection of hose fittings.
1. Hydraulically driven rubber tyre road wheels – steel rims with durothane rubber vulcanized to
the rim.
2. Drive gearboxes – are oil filled and have integral brakes which automatically engage when the
drive control is released.
3. Hydraulic drive motor – supplies power to the gearbox to manoeuvre the Transporter.
4. Front mounting flange – provides the mounting for the gearbox to the base frame leg.
6. Front push cylinders – attach to the base frame legs. Used in conjunction with the reverse drive
function to ease the feed chute away from the mill. They can provide up to 150 kN of force.
7. Lifting jacks and covers – attach to the base frame legs. Used to lift the feed chute when it is
mounted on a feed chute base. The jack cylinder rod ends are machined to match the feed
chute base.
1. Rubber tyre road wheels – steel rims with durothane rubber vulcanized to the rim.
3. Stub axles – are fabricated assemblies and also the interface between the rear axle and
the wheels.
4. King Pin – attaches the stub axle to the machine rear axle. This allows the stub axle to
rotate about the rear axle and provides the rear wheel steering ability. The bearing types
in this assembly consist of thrust roller and low friction nylon.
6. Rear steering cylinder – controls the Transporter rear steering. It should be noted that
the steering also does not centre when the control lever is released but remains in the
position where last set.
For instructions on the steering controls for manoeuvring the Transporter refer to
‘Classic’ Operator’s Controls.
7. Rear axle pivot pin – allows the rear axle to pivot on the base frame to maintain all four
wheels in contact with the floor.
8. Rear axle pivot suspension stops – these are pins fixed to the base frame.
Emergency stop – engaging an ‘E’ stop will immediately shut the Transporter
1.
down and stop all motion.
PVG valve levers – control all Feed Chute Transporter site manoeuvring
2.
functions. Refer to Fig 2-20 ‘Classic’ Operators Controls.
Oil pressure gauge – indicates the hydraulic oil supply pressure and a normal
3. pressure indicates to the operator that the Transporter may be used. Full system
pressures are found in the hydraulic schematic drawings.
4. Blocked pressure filter indicator – if the main system pressure filter is blocked
then the filter blocked indicator will show as RED. It normally will show a GREEN
colour.
This indicator is mounted on the top of the system pressure filer manifold.
If the indicator shows red when the oil is at normal operating temperature during
operations then the filter should be immediately changed and inspected for any
contamination.
Control protective cover – shown in open position for Transporter use by
5. operator. When the operator is not at the controls, even for short periods, the
controls should be covered to prevent inadvertent operation.
Motion alert light and sound beacon – operates whenever any Transporter
6.
function is being used to warn personnel of the motion.
Hose storage support – provided for safe storage of the Transporter supply
7.
hydraulic hoses when the Transporter in not in use.
All operators must learn and practice all machine motions and functions so that feed chute movement
becomes a safe and seamless procedure.
All control levers return to the centre neutral position when they are released. All Transporter
movements cease when the levers are in the neutral position as all hydraulic cylinders remain in the
position where last set and all motors stop. For example, the Transporter lift height and steering remain
in the position last set until the corresponding lever is again moved.
1. Steering – Used to steer the direction of Transporter travel with the rear steering
wheels.
Moving this lever sets the steering angle of the wheels as indicated. The actual
direction of turning will also depend on the forward or reverse direction chosen
for Transporter travel. When this lever is in the neutral centre position, the
steering remains in the position last set until the lever is again used.
The plus sign and line links this control with the push jacks. Indicating that
reverse drive must be used with the push jacks when they are pushing against
the mill relining machine tie down blocks.
3. Rear lift jacks – Used to raise or lower the rear lift jacks independently from the
front lift jacks.
Pushing the lever forward lowers the rear lift jacks. Pulling the lever back raises
the rear lift jacks and feed chute.
4. Front lift jacks – Pushing the lever forward lowers the front lift jacks. Pulling the
lever back raises the front lift jacks and feed chute.
Independent operation of the front and rear lift jacks should be used to keep the
feed chute level at all times.
5. Push jacks – Used to ease the feed chute away from the mill. Pushing the lever
forward extends the jacks which then push against the mill relining machine
front floor mounted tie down blocks and cause the Transporter to move away
from the mill.
Note that when used in this way to push against the mill relining machine tie
down blocks the plus sign indicates that the reverse drive function must also be
used or the brake mechanism inside the motor drive gearboxes will be
damaged.
