ARE CONSIDERED THE BACKBONE OF EVERY SOCIETY. THEY ARE CARING MOTHERS, LOVING
DAUGHTERS, AND CAPABLE COLLEAGUES. THE BEST PART IS THAT THEY FIT THE BILL PERFECTLY IN
EVERY ROLE.
The status of women depicts the social, economic and mental condition in a
nation.
Yet, women were denied rights and equality in ancient Indian civilization.
Social evils such as dowry, sati-system, child marriage, gender inequality and
female infanticide were widely prevalent in the early ages.

During the British rule, many reformers such as Ram Mohan Roy, Ishwar
Chandra Vidyasagar and Jyotirao Phule fought for the betterment of
women.

Ram Mohan Roy fought against Sati that saved the lives of many women. He
also advocated for property rights for women, and fought child marriage. Roy
Jyotiraoa and Savitribai Phule started their first school for girls. Jyotirao
advocated widow remarriage and also started an orphanage to reduce
the incidence of female infanticide, which was common among families who
had girl children.
